RE: Chrysler filing bankruptcy today

Where have I heard that phrase, "I have a plan" before?
Just trying to be a little optimistic here. Sometimes I lose track of what I am supposed to be worried about this week (job uncertainties, corporate bankruptcies, 401K losses, terrorist attack, Swine Flu).

RE: Chrysler filing bankruptcy today

So, early yesterday I agreed to buy a new Jeep Wangler. A hour later after I left the dealership this announcement comes out. Dio I follow through or back out? The dealership never mentioned this was happening (they may not have known at that point). I am supposed to take delivery this afternoon.
My opinion is follow through and enjoy the new Wrangler. Jeep is certainly going to be a prominent part of the company going forward. There is a plan now. One or two months ago that might not have been the case. For whatever it's worth, I'm planning to shop for a Dodge vehicle within the next month or two.

In reading the above article, you will see reference to Chrysler's best assets. I would think that would be the Rams, Jeep and maybe the minivans. Anything else worth keeping?
Challenger. It's just a niche market car, but definitely worth keeping. Recently, maybe in February (??) it actually outsold the Mustang by a few units, another niche market car.

RE: Frame rust issue on older Toyota Tundras

Looks to me like Toyota is doing the recall based on DANA's error, not theirs. DANA also supplied early Titans with soft spider gears which was one issue that Nissan had with the Titan rears. DANA used a powdered metal process to manufacture the spider gears. When failures occurred the gears weren't shattered, but were mushed like metal modeling clay. Poor QC by DANA.
Poor QC by Toyota. Toyota sets the spec, not Dana. Toyota accepted the materials delivered to them. Toyota has the ultimate responsibility to inspect materials, even at the location of the supplier before they are even shipped out. That is a significant part of the quality process. It's what I do every day.

RE: Why does Dodge not get flak like Tundra?

I was going to say, I actually do see several Dodge SRT4 cars (Neon version) zooming around town with varying degrees of modification (usually with younger folks behind the wheel).
Well, according to the experts on this forum, they must be high school dropouts.
I'll bet if you could hear them talk, they would be saying "dude" a lot to each other.

RE: GM did me a favor

If it were a Big 3 product and not a Honda and it carried a less than 50k mile warranty you would have most likely been in the same boat.
Yes Keith, if the transmission went out at 50K miles in one of those junk domestic minivans, he would have been in the same boat.

FWIW I thought Honda carried a 60k mile drivetrain warranty anyhow?
Not at that time. I don't know if things are different now.

RE: GM did me a favor

I've had experience with both GM & Ford taking care of an item after the warranty ran out.
And so have I. The difference is that when you post those comments, the Detroit haters say "Well, it never should have had that problem to begin with - poor quality US cars." When someone posts about a problem with Toyota Tundra frames, the Detroit haters say "Well, at least Toyota is taking care of their customers." Blah, blah, blah. It reminds me of my neighbor who bought a new Honda Odyssey van in 02 or 03. The salesman was pushing for them to get the expensive extended warranty. My neighbor said no, it's a Honda, I don't need the warranty. He then had to pay out of his own pocket a bunch of money when the transmission went out at around 50-52K miles. No, Honda did not help him out.

RE: Why does Dodge not get flak like Tundra?

And of course, as we all know, ONE person's aura trumps that of 50 or 60 thousand, right?
Not necessarily. But, using that logic, if the public school drop out rate continues to get worse, Chrysler sales should really go up.

RE: Toyota loses 7 billion

That's totally impossible. Everybody knows that Toyota can do no wrong.
It has to be the fault of the previous Administration.

RE: Why does Dodge not get flak like Tundra?

Myself and my wife happen to be Toyota (Scion) buyers AND Dodge buyers. Where do we fit in? I was 'smarter' than the salesman, as he didn't know a gas-powered 2500 Ram could be bought with a manual transmission. I was the one that educated HIM.
Sorry, but 26 years of experience shows that you could not be correct. You must be imagining things.

RE: Why does Dodge not get flak like Tundra?

Historically your Toyota buyer is a better educated & informed buyer than your Dodge buyer, hence the difference in dishing out flak.......JMO........:C
Historically your typical automotive customer (Dodge or Toyota or otherwise) is better educated and informed than your typical automotive sales professional.
I just thought I would add another irrelevant comment.

RE: Some good news for Chrysler!

Sadly, GM hasn't built a car I'd own in about thirteen years, and hasn't built a truck I'd own in twenty-two years.
You might like the Pontiac G8 GXP, 415 horsepower 6.2 liter V8. A friend of mine just bought one - very impressive. Too bad Pontiac's not long for this world. You might also like the new Camaro (even though it doesn't look as good as the Challenger).

RE: GM to close most U.S. factories for up to nine weeks !

GM is now worth a fraction of The Clorox Company that has a market cap of $7.79 billion !
Wow, in bold and with an exclamation point to show excitement! How exciting. It is so exciting that you have now posted this in two places on this forum. Try to contain your feelings a little.

RE: Chrysler update from their CEO

The Obama administration is dismissing a report suggesting that Chrysler may be filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy as soon as next week. The New York Times is reporting that the US Treasury and Chrysler have reached an agreement which would have the struggling auto company filing for chapter 11.
So do I believe the New York Times, or do I believe the Obama administration? Which one is more truthful? Please don't answer that.

RE: Weight Police Have Fun.. Mini Cooper Towing a 22' TT

In addition, if you look at ANY vehicle that is available internationally, you will find the tow ratings are published lowest in the North American market. I've never understood how moving the steering wheel to the right can add 50% to a vehicle's tow rating? Maybe someone can explain this to me?
Good point. I'll check with my mechanic and see if he can move my steering wheel over so the weight police will get off my back.
Hmmm.....I'll bet those right hand drive US Postal Service trucks can tow a lot.........

RE: Chrysler update from their CEO

Oh yes, another fine story from the wonderfully accurate New York Times. The bankruptcy might happen, but it would be nice if the NYT would contain their excitement and give the Fiat people until April 30.
