RE: Free camping in West Central Florida in January

I do know some of the County Parks don't reserve the entire park but leave a few sites open for drive ups. January, February, and March is the busiest time for FL. Even if a campground says "Full" if you have a B, sometimes there will be a site available that cannot accomodate a larger rv. I hope you find something.

RE: Grape Salad

I also leave the grapes whole and use green and red. I use white sugar in the mix. I made it with the brown sugar in the mix but didn't like the looks or taste as well. I do garnish with the brown but don't put in on until ready to serve.

RE: Vintage Westinghouse Roaster

Betsy, I was going to check my Nesco book for you, but Cruzette was kind enough to do that for you.
Stim, My mother had the one that was on the roll around base too. Lots of great meals came out of that roaster.

RE: Thanksgiving dinner

I love all the meals posted here but at our house it just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the traditional roasted turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, etc. We do not camp or travel over TG so I always cook it inside and enjoy the wonderful aromas. I can hardly wait.

RE: What is the most useful cooking implement in the RV?

Cruzette,
You are welcome.
If you don't find the liners with the foil and baggies, look in Walmart where they sell crockpots. I have seen them there some time ago. We went to a rally recently and everyone at the potluck came up to me wanting to know where I got them. Others with crockpot dishes were having to wash the crocks. I just tossed the empty, messy bag in the trash. I know it's not "green" but I conserved on water. LOL

RE: What is the most useful cooking implement in the RV?

I have both a 4 and a 6 qt. Nesco. If they had a crock type cooking vessel instead of metal they would work better as a slow cooker. The food cooks around the thin metal sides during the cycling on and off and requires stirring a lot. Crockpots cook much more evenly during there cycling due to the thick crock and the heat remaining steady. I also use the Reynolds Slow Cooker Liners, no clean up. It states on the box "Do not use with electric roaster ovens". That indicates to me they get too hot and might melt the bag.
I have both the regular crockpot and the Westbend Slow Cooker like Cruzette has. I much prefer those for true slow cooking.
My experience is the Nesco has it's purpose but not the best as a crockpot. If other owners have had a better experience, let me know as maybe I'm at fault.

Rodger,
It will seem strange not to see your name as moderator. Thank you for your seven years as serving at this forum. I hope you are planning some trips and enjoy your retirement.

RE: Exploding Pyrex dishes !!!!!!!!

I happened to be in Sam's Club and saw a large set of Pyrex. It was marked Made in USA on the bottom.
An alternative to Pyrex would be Le Creuset Bakeware. I have many pieces and love it.

RE: Sprinter based Class B's

We have no concerns. Freightliner serviced ours two weeks ago as it was covered under warranty. Our local Dodge dealer does service Sprinters but not warranty items.

RE: Repairing the septic hose in an LTV

We had the same problem last year but it happened at the LTV factory rally so they handled it. My understanding is that it only takes loosening two large hose clamps around the sewer hose housing and sliding it rear ward far enough to reach where the sewer hose connects to the sewer outlet. The sewer hose should be connected to the outlet with another hose clamp. Just loosen and replace with a new hose then slide the housing back in place and secure with the two original hose clamps.

RE: Best Sprinter conversion?

Ditto on Julie's post. We get the same mileage too. I wouldn't think of making MPG claims on a unit I didn't own. I wish others wouldn't. I hope this doesn't turn into another MPG war, but when an opinion of a non owner is so far off, I had to comment.

RE: Pleasure Way Warranty Support

His profile indicates it is the Plateau model. I do think he needs to receive the correct shower curtain. I would have purchased one to use in the meantime and not let the water run onto the floor and rot carpeting as he mentioned.

RE: Great B accessories but never use

We don't take anything we really don't use or that isn't essential. Some things we use more frequently. Some things, we'd rather have with us than not. A lot depends on your lifestyle and needs. We travel more than camp which certainly determines your needs.
There has been a lot of posting on leveling blocks. We consider them essentials. Hope we don't need them but wouldn't leave home without them.

RE: Great West Sprinter Van

We have a Sprinter and would definitely buy one again. We do not have the Great West but have made observations when seeing them at RV shows. We prefer the larger fridge that we have and it is not mounted on the floor like the GW that we saw but is more eye level. We do not like kneeling or stooping on the floor to use the fridge. We do not like the pull out vanity that is over the toilet. Our fold down sink and shelf is on the opposite wall so you can sit and shave or apply makeup. We find the ottomans very useful as extra seating when we have friends in and good storage underneath them. We love our electric sofa as the back can recline at different positions for reading,TV or DVD watching.
These are personal comments about our likes and dislikes and not meant to be negative about other manufactures or the preferences of other members.
Spend a lot of time in various models before purchasing to decide what features work best for your lifestyle.

RE: Initial dtv-172 in 2006 Leisure Travel Van

If it is the same model Initial we have in our LTV and I think it is, it needs a converter box for TV now.

RE: Electric Sofa sleeping comfort?

All electric sofas are not created equal, roadrunner16. Our LTV electric sofa/bed is extremely comfortable both as a reclining sofa and a larger than queen size bed. We are very happy we do not do not have to use a foam topper. We use the Travasak sleep system and couldn't be more comfortable. Don't judge all electric sofas by the one you have.

RE: First Night Meal Ideas

We often do the same as hotbyte, leftovers from the night before. Sometimes I get a Chinese take out dinner from our local restaurant and reheat in the microwave. Their portions are so large that one is enough for the two of us. Very quick and easy.

RE: Replacing window shades in a PW Plateau (Sprinter)

Julie,
We restrung one of our Day/Night shades recently. We purchased the string from fixmyblinds.com. They also have instructions on there for restringing all types of blinds.
