RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

I did not get a photo - it was at night and rolling. A RT190 Versatile in Levittown, NY. White and looked pretty much new or no more than a year or two old. The dealer decal said Home and Park. This is quite a find for Long Island, NY as there are very very few rvs of any kind seen and I have never seen a Class B around here before. Since we are seriously considering the purchase of an RT190 this siting was quite a thrill (and we did go out of the way to follow it a bit to see what we could see of it).
Armed with camera in hand, you'd have the makings of a fine 'Class B' capturer 1775...:W

Changin' the oil on my genny. Getting under that thing and lifting my head to see in there is getting just a bit tougher! :E I now use a pillow just for that purpose. Before long, I'll have to take a nap there too. :B

RE: Bad month for cats in my area - update

A kitten ended up inside the plant where I work. With the machinery and the forklifts it could not be left inside. I was given the task of finding and evicting the varmit. I found an (approx.) eight week old tortiseshell. She came home with me. She does not seem to have been raised in a house or around any people. She has a wonderful disposition although still a little skittish with people walking around and is now called simply Cat. She is a food stealer but took to the litter box very well. She is no longer confined to the bathroom when we are out of the house but to the main living areas with access to the bathroom. No accidents discovered yet.
Perhaps I lost the others to make room for this one.
Great news!...pics please...:B...and sad news...:(

RE: Roof maintence

HTRJ, that looks like great stuff for fiberglass. It says that colored or painted fiberglass might need to be lightly sanded to get rid of oxidation. I wonder what that might do to the decals that most factory rigs have?

Very provocative statement Wayne...:W
Guess the rig owner has to decide which is more important!...the Rig?...or the decals?...:B

RE: dim lights, lack of shore power

I'm a newbie with a tech issue and need advice! I have a 99 Excel 5th wheel plugged in permanently to shore power (full-timing at a local park), and when running a 700w ceramic heater at night (or A/C on low during summer), it saps my power during the night (or day if A/C is on, even low) to the point of lights not coming on when I get up in the morning, or very dim, and when a light is switched on, the refrigerator beeps and displays low ac or low dc. I do need the replace the batteries, but was told I could disconnect them since I'm stationary for the time being and use only shore power. After I turn off heater or AC quits running, the power boosts back up in time, and lights work fine again. Can someone explain to me what's happening?
Hi Travelin' Girl...:B
Is your shore power running through an inverter?...if so?...could be a bad transfer switch in the inverter which will not allow shore power to run your appliances with-out bypassing battery to inverter usage...:W

RE: Roof maintence

My wife and I have a 99 RT Poplar with 90,000 mi. on it. It is in very good shape but the roof is always very oxidized,(chaulky). I don't want to wax it twice a year but do want it to be protected. Is there a another product out there that is specifically made for fiber glass that is subjected to a lot of sun all yeat long. We use the van all year for our second car. Car waxes seem to be less than effective for this application. Thank you all for your input.

RE: Looking for agood small generator

I recently purchased a fish house to use this winter up here in MN. I purchased the fish house with 2 friends We will need a generator to run lights, pizza cooker, fans and T.V. during the day. I am leaning towards the Honda EU 2000. Is the Eu 2000 big enough to handle this load? I also have a 26' TT. One reason I am leaning toward the EU 2000 is that I could purchase a 2nd EU2000 and have a 4000 watt generator for my TT for the 1-2 times a year that we camp without power.
So I guess my question is: Is the Honda EU series the best bang for the buck in terms of quiet reliable power? Northern Hydraulics will be selling the EU2000 for $810 on Black Friday. Is this the best price I can expect to find one for new?
Hello mrad...:B
Here is an example of 2 Honda EU2000i's paired together with an added external fuel tank...:W

RE: Road Salt Protection and Maintenance ?

We also don't use the RT on a regular basis during the winter, except for trips south and back home. However, to prevent rust during those times, we have our RT treated with Corrosion Free. We used to have it treated with "Krown", a good product, but it drips a lot and made a mess of the driveway. Corrosion Free lasts for 18 months, which is also a plus, and it is drip-free.
Do they power-wash the undercarriage prior to the 'Corrosion-Free' application, or just trap in the dirt & grime?

Actually HTRJ, I have no idea! I have never tried it :) Is it good?, sounds a bit scary, but then so does liver when you get down to it and it is one of my all time favorites!

RE: Road Salt Protection and Maintenance ?

With so many options to use a B as a second car and day trip base vehicle, I believe B owners drive through the winter more than any other RV owner. This is my first winter with a B and was wondering what you all do to protect your B from the corrosion of road salt. I've never really had a problem with normal cars, partially because they were easy enough to drive through a car wash, but also because there's hardly any bare/exposed metal accessories attached to it. In contrast, the B has so many different hinges, bolts, accessories, etc. that it just looks like a field day for Mr. Rust and Corrosion.
So what you folks do for winter prep and maintenance to help your B survive the winter muck?
Way back when we lived up North reppans, I'd drive my vehicle through large puddles from melted snow on flooded streets!...REAL FAST...:B
Even though the water may have contained some remnants of road salt IMO it was pretty well diluted...:W

RE: Most Sought After Comfort Food In Travel

I am with the earlier poster that mentioned local cafes & diners too.
For breakfast, ham & eggs or steak & eggs at any well recommended local diner.
For lunch, toasted bagel sandwiches with roast beef & swiss or french dips. Bruegers or small town bagel shops are perfect!
I love to find local family restaurants that serve liver & onions & great whipped potatoes! My wife won't cook liver in the B.. Actually she won't cook it anywhere but thats another story. Good clam chowder or split pea soup is always high on the list to go with!

RE: Filling FW tank in 2001 Dodge 190

Recently bought my first rv, see above.
Filling fw has been a problem:
Filler tubing from back door was bad so removed
it. Then placed garden hose in remaining
filler stub.
Also tried to fill from the city water
side as manual described.
Either way resulted in little or no
water going into tank.
City water connection resulted
in no water at all going in,
with valve positioned both ways.
Could there be inlet screens in both fillers?
Both clogged?
Thanks.

RE: Heat for a class B with no electric ?

Not meaning to hijack the thread...but does anyone have an opinion on using a small Kerosene heater?
We're hoping to build a Sprinter van next year with no propane system, and were thinking about Kerosene for the occasions when we'll need some heat. We've used one at home for many years to supplement our heat each winter and have been quite happy with the amount of heat produced on little fuel. Figured we'd have to leave a window cracked or a vent open...but are there any other concerns I'm missing?
Not too keen on fool'n around with flammable liquids inside the van firstimer. IMHO stay far far away from a mind-set of kerosene usage for heating those tootsies...:W
