RE: Website of the Home Of Orange County Choppers.

Indian Larry was a guy who really 'built' motorcycles. What a strange guy he was, what a neat guy to hear interviewed.

RE: Charleston SC

Go over to Shem Creek and eat at the little restaurant/tavern on the water on the north side. Can't recall the name, but the fried oysters are great and the potato (not sure what to call them) slices with the seasoning spinkled on are wonderful. A cold beer makes the whole thing complete.

RE: Grill for the stick and bricks.

We have a total stainless steel from Lowes on the deck. Something like $400 and they put it together. Great grill, three interior burners and one side eye for cooking in a pot or pan.

RE: Weird News, Snake chokes on its own tail.

:B reminds me of something I saw a few years ago while traveling in rural South Georgia. Two kingsnakes got to biting and chewing on each other. Each got the other's tail in his mouth. They began swallowing on each other like a big circle. The circle kept getting smaller and smaller. After about 30 minutes they completely disappeared...they swallowed each other. :W

RE: Headwinds and mileage

There is indeed a tail wind. We were crossing Montana a few years back and were amazed how quiet the coach was running with hardly any noise from the outside. Pulled over to take a break and check the hookup and tires. Started to open the door and was snatched out of the coach when the tailwind caught the door. Have not idea how it affected the fuel milage, but if a head wind makes it go down, surely a tail wind must increase the milage.
My problem with that is I seldom find a wind blowing in the direction I want to travel ;)

RE: Sturgis 2010 - would appreciate help from SD friends.

I expect you want to stay in cabins like a motel room, but I thought I should at least mention Custer SP. They have camper cabins that are really nice (we have hosted there for two years) They are A/c and electric only however. Showers and toilet facilities are in the CG with the cabins. Lot of the Sturgis crowd stays in Custer. You will want to ride the Iron Mnt Rd, Game Loop, and Needles Hiway any how. It is more than 20 miles from Sturgis however.
Price of the cabins is like 45 dollars - but I can ride quite a distance to save 155 dollars.
As far as your route goes > Think about cutting NW from Omaha across Nebraska and coming into the Black Hills around Hot Springs or Edgemont. Beautiful ride across the Park up through Hill City, Lead and through Icebox Canyon, Spearfish Canyon to Spearfish back over to Sturgis.

Crossing the Bar

I seldom read anything serious anymore. but this, from my old high school English Lit class, came to mind this afternoon and I had to take another look. Seems the older I get, the more peaceful this makes me feel.
Crossing the Bar
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

RE: glacier national park

Glacier CG, on the right coming up from Hungry Horse is the closest CG to the west entrance of the park. Thirty amp and water with an easy access dump station. Lots of vegetation and trees, not like some of the parking lot parks in the area.
Restaurant called Cajun Mary's was there a few years ago - on the property. It has been a while since we were there, but this was a neat place to stay - more like a state park than a privately owned CG. We had a bear in the back of site that kept aggravating campers. They had set a trap, but had not caught him when we left.

RE: Atlanta near the Airport?

That is Clayton County :E not a real good place to overnight. Have you checked with the hotel? Sometimes around this area, the hotels will allow parking in their lots. Don't know about Westin however.

RE: Motorcycle owned by EVEL KNIEVEL.

If this is a 2008 scooter, how is it that Evel signed it when he died in Nov, 2007? Yeah I know about model years and all that, but he was in pretty poor shape for a while before he died. Just wondering...

RE: ...getting older hurts...lol

Apparently aches and pain are part of he aging process. I have made up my mind to ignore these things and continue. Going to the doctor is another thing I notice 'old' people get into a habit of doing. I will ignor that as well, or at least as long as I can. Well being is a state of mind and sometimes I seem to lose my well being.

RE: Disabled and volunteering as Camp Host

My wife is unable to walk due to MS. She has to use a walker to get around inside and a mobility scooter to get around outside. The state park we volunteer at supplies us with a golf cart and she is able to do most of the site work like posting reservations at the sites and pulling leaving tabs for those completing their stay. I do most of the other work, like picking up stray pieces of litter, dealing with complaints, checking bathrooms and showers etc. We are not required to clean baths and showers although in some situations we do plunge a toilet or mop a shower floor.
I said all that to tell you this. Working as a team you can get just about anything the average host site requires. With the economy where it is and park budgets being cut back to the bone, State parks are looking for free or nearly free labor. Volunteers cost them very little except some electricity and water and they get a whole lot in return - supervsion and clerical work at the CG, a watch person, a PR person for the park and a general authority figure.
Do it if you can and if you don't like it or can't do it, explain why and move on. No one will get upset. They might even work with you to change the job to something you can do.

RE: Climatologists baffled by Global warming stall

"Urea is a good fertalizer too. A little is good, a little bit more is better, but too much will burn the lawn."
Very true! The same is true of bull manure . It makes the grass green and grow. There has to be some mighty tall, green grass around some of these threads.

RE: Saints game in Atlanta

Well, I guess if you have the cajones you might contact some of the private parking guys that are like mushrooms on a cow pasture around the stadium and see what they would charge to let you park in their lots - won't be cheap and probably not safe either. RVs have a lot of valuable things that can easily be disposed of.

GOOD LORD NO!!! Don't do it!
But on second thought... If you can survive NO then you can probably handle the Atlanta criminals.

RE: Motor home jacks

We have hydraulic jacks on the 08 Damon Essence. When extended and leveled, we have a popping noise that seems to be the front settling (sp?) a bit. It apparently is from one of the front jacks and is pretty loud. I thought for a while it was the jacks sitting on gravel and that was giving way and causing this. Then we set up on a concrete pad - same thing.
It seems to have become less frequent.
I have no idea what the cause is.
