RE: Road Salt Protection and Maintenance ?

Great info, thank you. I just made an appointment with Krown for 0900 Tuesday. Wish me luck.

RE: Heat for a class B with no electric ?

My wife and I spent 6 weeks touring through Alaska last spring. We used propane for the furnace almost every night, the water heater every day, and the propane setting on the frig occasionally. We used less than one tank of propane during the entire trip. The concern I would have would be the capacity of the battery rather than the capacity of the propane tank. If you drive each day, the battery should recharge enough to run the blower on the furnace all night, unless you use other appliances which require battery power. I am not sure why some of the responders have a negative response to using the propane furnace because I thought that it was installed to use it when it is needed. I feel exactly the same way. We set the thermostat on the propane furnace to around 50 degrees and off to sleep we go. In the morning, SO takes the dogs out and I set the thermostat up to 65 or 70. We warm up quickly. Also, I notice that when running the propane furnace, there is plenty of moisture in the van...mostly on the windows. When running on an electric space heater, for example while plugged in, the moisture is not present.

RE: What would you do?

I would also strongly consider the Espar Airtronic units. I will go without propane in the next rig. Can't be too safe or warm with a little one onboard.

RE: Buying from afar

I would be happy to preview a unit that was reasonably close. I'm sure others on the board would do the same. I agree with what was said regarding the units going quickly. If it is priced fairly, it will sell right away. I shopped for nearly one year before purchasing ours.

RE: Driving over the Mackinac bridge in a B

I have crossed it at night, in 35 knot winds, while it was snowing sideways. Also on nice days. Even walked it once (overheard during the walk, "is this the bridge part" and "is that the south tower or the north tower?"). No problems. The scariest time on the bridge for me was one occasion recently in the car southbound as I approached a Class A from behind. This gentleman's awning was unwinding in the wind and the frame was lowering a few feet and raising randomly. It went a bit further each time. It was getting closer and closer to the light poles. Why he didn't stop to secure it, I will never know. Well, the signs do say "no stopping". I'm glad there was no fire in his coach, or hole in the roadway. If you don't like the heights, just call ahead and have a driver move your rig. They won't let you cross if it is unsafe, and they monitor the weather carefully. If you want local information, send a me private message. Best Wishes

RE: Covering a Roadtrek

I would be VERY hesitant to cover the Roadtrek with anything other than a custom-fit automotive cover. The risk of damage with anything else is too great, and the wear and tear is likely to be far worse than leaving it exposed. You could go with a low-cost portable storage shed, or a metal carport. Both would be less likely to damage the rig, IMO. Good Luck

RE: Ferry to PEI

We just did this in May. It was very pleasant and a nice boat ride. You will be quite comfortable.

RE: Campgrounds in Halifax and Sydney,NS

Halifax - We stayed at Shubie Campground, located in nearby Dartmouth, in May. Nice people, clean, reasonable, and a short drive to downtown Halifax. They don't tolerate any nonsense there, it is well-run. Check www.shubiecampground.com. Would recommend/stay again. Sydney - We stayed at the Arm of Gold Campground in North Sydney. They have waterfront sites, and they are close to Sydney. Clean and nice folks. Showers and facilities were not open when we were there in May. Some seasonals and some nonsense, but would stay again. Safe Travels

RE: How quiet are the Sprinter conversions?

I have only put on about 5K miles in the three months we have had ours, but I don't think it is too loud. There is some wind noise around the doors. It is a big vehicle, with big mirrors, so some wind noise can be expected. I can hear very little road/tire noise. There are 17K miles on our tires. There is audible engine noise, including the turbo. The seating position is quite close to the engine, and it is a diesel. Again, expected and within acceptable levels. Our SS Agile is quieter than a Ford Explorer (AWD) that I used for work, but not as quiet a Chevy Impala that I currently drive. I'm not at all unhappy with the noise. It is a 2006 Dodge chassis.

RE: Class B Time Sharing

This wouldn't work for us. We like the fact that we can just jump in and go. Our B is in our driveway packed and ready to go at a moment's notice. :B But saying that, this might be a way to cut down on the cost of buying a B or another type of RV. This is not our style tho... Same here. We can be gone for a few days with about 10 minutes of preparation. I would rather loan it to those good friends when they want it.

RE: Roadtrek decal

Bob, You may want to check all 3 decals before making an ordering decision. I wanted to remove mine, and they easily came right off. There was significant dirt on the backside, too. The "Home and Park" decal on the stern was a different story. It was properly applied and took some elbow grease to remove! Good Luck

RE: Sprinter ?s

I filled up yesterday. Efficiency was 23 MPG, with 2 canine units, some gear, and the SO aboard. 2006 2500 chassis.

RE: Sprinter ?s

We are new to the Sprinter but not diesels. I agree with what folks have stated in this thread. We find the visibility, handling, safety features, and ergonomics of the Sprinter to be exactly what we wanted. Touring is what we do, and it drives very nicely. I have observed that we sit much higher then a Chevy, which provides excellent visibility viewing wildlife and looking over cars. We "waffled" about Chevy vs. Sprinter, generator issues, etc. before finding an SS Agile near our home. Once we drove the Sprinter, the decision was clear. I find we use about 3 gallons of propane for 24 hours of winter RV use (including heat and 2 generator hours). So far, so good.

Roadtrek SS Agile Recall - Supplemental Rear Light

At least some of the SS Agiles have an applicable recall due to non-compliance with lighting standards. Apparently, the continental spare tire kit impedes required visibility of the left rear lighting, and RT is installing a supplemental light on the spare tire. Does anyone have a photo of the light installed as per the recall? I'm curious to see how it looks before I make arrangements. Dealer is FAR...(and Hilltop RV could not tell me whether or not they were a dealer). Thank You

RE: I'm guessing this is where I'll fit!

That is one cool RV! I would be proud to be driving that - it's definitely a one-of-a-kind vehicle. (that's a good thing) Agreed. Very interesting, unique, and classy. You will be probed more than anyone on the board! Have fun and good luck!

RE: Buy / Sell or Trade a Class B Recently?

We recently purchased a used B. I frequented the following sites: Craigslist RV Trader RVnet RV Registry FMCA Roadtrek Chapter, ads page Ebay I think RV Trader has a friendly search format, seems to have the most ads, and it is updated frequently. That is where I would spend my advertising dollar. Best Wishes
