RE: HOLY COW !!! Check out this rig !!!

I saw a couple of these rigs this summer while going cross country. Both of them were out west. The only difference in the ones that I saw was that they were plain colored (one black and one white) with small lettering on the door of the cab with "Not For Hire." These rigs are solid and mean "business." They're not for the usual casual RV'er! :B

RE: Hair On My Pillow Pain In My Feet

Changin' the oil on my genny. Getting under that thing and lifting my head to see in there is getting just a bit tougher! :E I now use a pillow just for that purpose. Before long, I'll have to take a nap there too. :B

RE: Road Salt Protection and Maintenance ?

This is an excellent topic. Thank you. I try to avoid driving the RT during the winter, especially after snowy or icy conditioned days that required salt being to be put on the roads by the authorities. Usually, I wait 5 or 6 days after the last snow storm and after we have had a heavy rain fall (and dried) to clean the roads before I head out again (for the "exercise run.") Oh, last year, the town that I live in, cut down the use of salt by 50% in the sand mix due to lack of funds and, the roadways seemed to be no worse than before. I imagine this will help lessen the corrosion on our vehicles. Who knows? A couple of weeks ago I had my RT undercarriage inspected by my mechanic that I trust. He told me that the RT it looks great (rust free) - better than most vehicles of that same year 2004. He says don't bother with any treatments and seemed to indicate that they a waste of money. I think it depends on where you live and how much you drive your B in salty road conditions. I try to avoid the beaches too, especially on windy days. (Salt spray from the ocean water). But, this winter I am planning a trip south so I have to watch the weather forecast down the coast to see when the best will be to leave. I'm sure others are in the same boat as I am.

RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

Hey Wayne, I noticed the #176. Does that mean you have 176 B pictures on this topic and that you are ahead of any of us? :h

RE: Roof maintence

Ditto My Roadtrek's view about Protectall Fiberglass Oxidation Remover & Color Restorer. Remember not to leave it in your B over the winter like I did the first year. Once it is frozen, it's no good. I use it twice a year (living up north) and wax the roof 4 times a year. The roof looks like new here too. (I bet not as good as My Roadtrek tho...) :B Works great for me.

RE: Class B Snowbirds

omjones & Me&Ma: Thank you for your references. They're helpful. I'm going to save the Glades link so when I go to the Everglades, I can stay there for a few days. My DW & I are not completely sold on the TT idea but it is one of the top choices on our list. The glades resort seems reasonable to me. I've looked at a couple in the Ft. Myers area that are more pricey. The Glades resorts looks nice enough. I'm going to be using the RT this winter for snowbirding & for exploratory purposes. I'm thinking it might be better to just rent a condo for a couple of months each year and use the RT as the primary vehicle to tour FL. I dunno... We will see... Perhaps having a special account for renting the condo and not buying a new TT might be the way to go. There is less hassle with maintenance on the TT, etc IMO. Ron, I plan to head back to the Cape in February. I know January is the coldest month in FL but it sure beats the cold up north! The DW has one more year to work and then we are free to go together when we please. Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind when I see the temps going on up north and just stay in FL. I'll contact you in that case. (My DW will love that!) LOL! I may go either way in my snowbirding plans. :)

RE: Class B Snowbirds

Right after New Years, I'm heading down to the Tampa FL area as a home base to look around in FL for a permanent snowbird spot for future winters. I plan to explore the Everglades, Key West, Naples, Cape Canavarel and other spots from there. My sister lives near Tampa in St. Pete's Beach so there is no added living costs to stay there. We are torn between getting a TT to pull with our RT (to use at RV resorts) or to simply rent a condo and park the B there as our primary vehicle.

RE: Optional armoire for Roadtrek

Here is a post that I added to the same basic topic in january 09. I feel that the stock amoire or wardrobe is quite pricey and I will not pay that kind of money for something I might use just a couple of times a year. The pictures shown in the post may help you save a bit of money. I personally would not buy the amoire or wardrobe you are inquiring about.

RE: You meet the nicest people......

We stopped by Phoenix, AZ (about 45 minutes from Rodger's area I think) on our cross country trip this summer on the way back. (Actually, Scottsdale to visit a cousin.) I thought about sending Rodger a PM but I said to myself, "Nah, he's too busy with the moderator thing and all..."). Shucks. I should have contacted Rodger anyway. I missed a good opportunity there. We will catch him when we go back there in the near future. (My DW wants to do the swing our west again sometime). :B

RE: Quick propane question - Intervec Falcon

I think what might be causing the confusion is that in a typical stick house, an oil or gas furnace often also heats the hot water. This does not apply to RV's as I understand it. On RV's (at least every RV I've owned), the furnace and hot water heater are two different units. They are not connected at all. And, yes, you will damage the hot water heater if you turn it on without water in the unit as I understand it. On edit: I see seraphim is all set. I evidently entered this reply a few minutes, uh, hours, too late. :)

RE: New camping van enthusiasts

want2snowbird: Welcome to our forum. You are thinking along the same lines the my DW and I are. We have our RT of course. We love it and we love the freedom is gives us. We can go anywhere at anytime. You can't beat it. But, our long range plan is that next winter, we will have a new TT (to tow with our RT) to use as our south home base (snowbird) in FL. This winter I am going down to FL to look around at places to stay the following year (winter) and also to check different TT models. There is one particular brand I am interested in and will probably make a deal in a few months. The beauty of this arrangement is that if we are not satisfied with FL, we can simply move the TT to AZ or to another place in FL to snowbird in. We will always keep our stick home here on Cape Cod, MA. The summers here are magnificent. :B

RE: Worry about discrimination because of little "B"

We haven't experienced any discrimination in our case. The exact opposite! Often, other RV types owners have asked us for a tour of our RT. And in turn, I ask for a trade (that they show us theirs.) I am in awe of the big $$$ bus rigs to be honest but it is funny when "they" come over for a chat to check us out. Usually it's the DW that starts the conversation. All in all, we find that a vast majority of campers we meet are courteous and nice people. :)

RE: Windows 7 Aero Support

IMO, it is best to get Windows 7 with a new computer rather then upgrading from XP or Vista now. The price of the software will be a better deal (included) with the new machine. If your present machine is working fine now, stick with it. Over time, you will have to eventually get a new machine anyway. I like to wait 2 or 3 months to see what the "true" responses from users will be and perhaps the bugs will be ironed out - rather than being influenced all the hype at launch time of new software. This includes any operating system - Windows, Mac or any other brand.

RE: Pleasure Way or Roadtrek

My suggestion is to go to dealers of both brands. That may mean going to two different dealers and try the different brands and models out. Get the salesman out of the rig for 30 minutes to an hour and make believe you are "living" in the B - both the PW & the RT. I gave our salesman a $10 tip to get him out for a while. Don't be bashful. The dealers want your business. Try the bed, take a short nap. Get on the toilet - is there enough room? We found the aisle shower setup in the RT was best in our case. (We use our shower pretty often - no bumping elbows here...). How does the kitchen galley area feel for the DW? I could go on and on. It really depends on your style. Both brands are fine products. You will have to really try both units out "hands-on" to get the feel for them. At some point, you will say, "This is the one!" That is what happened in our case. My DW actually made the final choice (my choice too) when she test drove the Chevy vs. the Ford and Sprinter models. She just liked the "feel" of driving the Chevy. Again, both companies are excellent. It is a matter of personal preference. You will have to do your homework as described above.

RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

Here is an Xplorer I found at the local mall. It looks like it's in great shape. I didn't get a chance to take other angle shots of the rig. It seems we have a few Xplorers in our area lately. This one has a blue trim that I haven't seen before. Hmm... http://gallery.me.com/jstudley/100072/IMG_2165/web.jpg?ver=12568537740001 height=400 width=400

RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk187/wsfurrie/BofA.jpg height=400 width=400 I have a neighbor who wants to buy that baby! He is a VW camper fan and drove cross country back in the 60's in one. HIs VW was not quite as "used" as this one but pretty close! I wonder if the original version of this camper had the standard canvas pop up roof? :B

RE: A real van mystery. See if you can solve this one.

about 15 gallons( his estimate ) of clear water came gushing out. He said he had never seen anything like it. 15 gallons of clear water is an awful lot of water. That is 15 gallon buckets! Try to imagine that. I dunno.... I would wait for another big rainstorm, then have the shop do the same thing again and collect the water for you so you can see it. You will have to do the process of elimination. If it isn't rainwater, then target another possible source such as a fresh water tank. I'm not sure if 15 gallons can fit inside the panel area... :h

RE: How do you keep fit on the road?

We walk 3 times a day for a minimum of 30 minutes each time. Also, we have a Wii console with balance board hooked up to our HD flat screen TV for exercise and "personal training." It's like having your own personal trainer. This works well for us. No bands here - not needed with the Wii. We are not full timers but follow the above procedure on our trips.

RE: Mac or PC laptop?

Macs are the most versatile machines you can buy. You can run both Mac OS and Windows on the same laptop because of the Intel chip. I would go to an Apple store, ask a lot of questions (have them ready on paper) and make the salespeople work hard for you. Do a lot of hands-on stuff on different laptops there. Check the Apple Store on their website for store locations.. Type in your zip code in the box on the right of that web page to find your nearest Apple store. Everyone is different. Both operating systems are fine products. Competition is good. Some people like Windows, others like Macs. For me, it was the viruses and spyware problems on Windows that convinced me to buy a Mac a few years ago. It is still going strong with no problems. I just installed the snow leopard upgrade a few weeks ago. I am impressed. So, technically, I have two machines in one on my Macbook laptop. :)

RE: No longer a Moderator

My Roadtrek, Ditto all the above. I appreciate you keeping our forum to a high level of respect. I think others can agree with me that we have learned a great deal from this forum due to your dedication and enthusiasm. Have a fine "retirement" and please post your experiences when on the road in the future. Joe :-)
