RE: CA-"Monster Mash-2010" Kit Fox RV Park-Oct 29-31, 2010

Unfortunately, we will not be able to make this rally... We have some family issues to deal with in Washington and probably won't be back in time... HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!

sign... mice again

Thought we got rid of them. But they're back. At least now we know where they are coming in. So, when we get the last of them, we've got to seal up the area behind the bumper. Afraid to do it now as I want them to leave after hopefully eating the poison. But as of yet, they haen't shown much interest in it. We've only caught one, but the dog seems to think there's a party going on. And they really like our very thick floor insulation... I HATE MICE!!!

RE: Thinking About A 2011 RZR LE

We are also considering a used rzr. I ride a straight axle brute force which is too rough on me these days. Plus, when we are on rocky areas, it's really no fun. We have a brand new two up, but I'm not willing to be a passenger all the time. So, deciding between a new single quad with power steering or a used rzr which has been updated. How's the steering on a rzr without power steering? The cost of adding stuff to the new quad like a winch and boxes can really get costly.

liability insurance for atvs..

How many have insurance on their toys? We have a liability policy on the two older ones, but are now buying a new toy - and wondering about insurance.. I thought it was a requirment for riding in cal state off road parks, but I can't find any evidence of that... thanks

Anyone in Lake Havasu?

Hoping someone in Havasu could take a "drive by" of a campground that we're a member of... seems they are taking space for private sites. Curious which side of the road they are using as it's a popular destination for members... Anyone there?

replacing TV in slide

We decided to replace the heavy tube TV with a new flat screen. But the TV cabinet is in the corner of the slide. But we need to secure it as it won't fit exactly like the old one within the cabinet which was literally screwed in. The perfect solution would be to secure it with a bracket to the side of the slide.. but we don't know how deep the wall is or if that's a good idea. We were going to secure it on the bottom of the cabinet, but it will still need some additional support which again leads us to somehow creating bracing to the side and rear of the slide... Any ideas?

Taking it all with you...

In our current configuration, we have to bring two vehicles - one towing the 5er and one with the quad trailer. All of the toyhaulers which could handle our two large utilities were either 40 feet or more, way too heavy for our truck and frankly didn't look that comfortable for long-term living. Plus, if you can't ride out of the campground - how do you get your toys to the riding area? We thought about getting a 2-up and putting it on the back of the 5er, which could handle the weight - but then it puts another 750 lbs on the truck which is already at legal limits. And honestly, as the DW, I'm a lousy passenger. I like to be in control of my fate. But when you get to a campground with two vehicles and two trailers we get charged more. Then there's the fuel cost factor... And the being in separate vehicles (actually sometimes not so bad..) If money wasn't a consideration, I guess the perfect set up would be a beefy Class A towing the truck with both quads in the back.. Just curious - what's the solution for you?

More guinea pigs...

Don't know if you all remember me, but I had an issue with a couple of guinea pigs who turned out to be a "pair" and not sisters. We are now up to 9 guinea pigs. Apparently, the critters can breed right after (and I mean within the minute) of giving birth. And since we didn't realize our mistake until the first batch of little ones showed up, several months later on Monday a new litter of four identical babies arrived. Holly (the mama) was more than just fat. And unfortunately, one poor little runt seems to be blind in one eye. We're out of cage room even with three cages. The noise level when one opens the frig is loud with a chorus of purring, squeeks and whistles because they think they are STARVING all the time. They're messy critters and we have to keep them in the office to keep our super prey dog from shaking a cage for the tasty treat. Anyone interested in a cute, cuddily guinea pig or two or three...

RE: Windows Vista file/ photo management question...

Personally, I don't like to use Vista to view photos...Try using Picasa - it's free from Google.. It's a photo program that's very easy to use and it has some easy editing tools... I've got photoshop also, but Picasa is so much easier for basic stuff.. Have no idea how you got that blue symbol on your photos... Have you opened them after moving them and it still shows up? Or is it only on the "view" file icon...

Oil change turns into big repair bill...

It was supposed to be a simple oil change on our 2003 GMC. But of course, nothing is ever that simple. Since it was due for the 60,000 mile check up, they discovered metal shavings in the front diff. And then an oil leak above the transmission requiring them to drop the tranny to fix the leak. Now, we've only noticed a tiny drop of oil from time to time... but heck, as long as they had to disconnect to work on the front diff... might as well fix the leak... And they flushed fluids and had the diesel guy checked it out closely. AND of course, the extended warrenty expired last year - and I didn't renew it. But since it spends its life mostly towing.. one can't be too careful I guess. And the cost of a new truck verse getting this one fixed is a no-brainer - especially since this one's already had the fuel injectors replaced (the one flaw with this engine..)

RE: Transporting firewood across states

Alrighty then... before I get more bashing for the suggestion, I understand the issue. Let's be clear, we won't be taking any wood with us when we head east. Enough with the "stupid" comments. Since when did this forum become so hostile?

RE: Transporting firewood across states

touchy subject apparently. And no, we are not irresponsible campers determined to "do what we want" geez, people. I did google it and didn't get any real answers. We have oak trees. It burns well, we have alot of it and enjoy using it for campfires. Here is Ca campfire wood is $8 to $10 for a small bundle. And it's usually the same kind of wood. We certainly don't want to transport pests, although that isn't an issue here.

Transporting firewood across states

DH refuses to leave home without lots of firewood. But we are heading into new areas this fall like Utah, Nevada possibly others... I know some states restrict firewood... but can't seem to find a list of them... Anyone know?

Electronic mice gizmos - do they work?

We've only had our trailer in storage for about 3 weeks, and already we have a field mouse visitor or two... We don't empty the pantry because - we use the trailer alot (it seldom sits in storage for more than 2 weeks)But it's mostly can goods and such. They did discover the granola bars. They/he/she has outwitted the traps so far, but I'm hopeful we can trap the critter(s) before we need the trailer later this week. We've tried to figure out how they are getting in, but they still manage. We don't have power in storage, but I can leave the inverter on to use those ultrasonic mouse gizmos. We have 100 watts of solar and this time of year (hot sun) I think the solar will be able to easily keep up. But we are not going to bother if the gizmos don't work. So, has anyone had any luck using them?

oven rubber seal

In our RV oven, there is a rubber seal that runs along the inside - not quite at the edge. It's come loose. Not sure how to fix. Would gorilla glue or super glue work? Or would the heat of the oven be an issue on the adhesive?

RE: alpha dog syndrome

Good responses - all of them. We need to work more on the issue, but really we have tried changing the behavior. I don't want to sound like she's in charge. She's not. She does know her place in the family. She obeys as she is directed. We have her wait at the door until told she can leave AFTER we go through the door. When I really give her a stern correction she'll roll over on her back - is this a sign of submission? And most of the time she is fine off the leash with other dogs. One issue is that she has been attacked twice on the leash and I was bitten. Both times by large dogs running loose. So, we both have anxiety issues with such situations. So changing the behavior might be a bit more difficult. However, in a dog park situation, she sometimes gets agitated around big dogs and if one gets pushy, she'll react sometimes strongly. We remove her from the dog park if this happens. And this weekend she - off the leash - took a very strong dislike to a friends small terrier who insisted on being aggressive. Can some dogs just be "loners" and just not like the company of other dogs? I haven't tried rewards yet to redirect her attention - only a sit/stay approach while telling her no when she starts to react. Maybe treats is the way to go..

RE: alpha dog syndrome

Jada will be about 6 in August. She's a snowbird dog - and I'm thinking the traveling makes her anxious. Since we've been home from a 3 month trip, some of her behaviour has changed and she's become more reactive to things including people walking by the house. She's mostly American Eskimo, but there's some chow in there too.
