RE: Cool Summer RVing, not Calif

We have had our Camper since 2003 and still don't have or want an Air Conditioner. We spend our summers in the Great Northwest and long stretches of winter in the Southwest.
But alas Tyler, Texas is a long drive away.

I've heard it said that you can tell Black Bear scat from Brown Bear scat.
Brown Bear scat contains little bear bells and smells of pepper spray.

RE: What Are The Best Tools and Method To Remove Old Caulking

What Are The Best Tools and Method To Remove Old Caulking? From my Chevy!!!!!
How come we even need to Caulk our campers in this day and age?
Would you even think about recaulking your truck?
Campers shouldn't need it ether!! Any manufactures listening!!
I'm looking to replace mine with one that doesn't need any caulking, just like my truck..

RE: TC trip to OlyPenn and Vancouver Island - suggestions?

You know of course the Washington coast is not like the Oregon coast in that there is less development.
Camping at Lake Ozette then having to hike three miles just to get to the ocean is different than the Oregon coast. Nice trail through the rain forest however, just no roads. We like the little towns of La Push and Neah Bay both small and somewhat isolated.
If you go to Neah Bay do see Cape Flattery, standing at the pointy tip edge of the US is always a thrill for me. Rialto beach just north of La Push is a great place for beach-combing.
Oh by the way the Kalaloch campground in the Olympic national park is just a wonderful place to spend a few days. The road even goes near the ocean there.

RE: U. S. Currency in Canada - What Can You Tell Me?

We have our Credit Union issued Master Card, Visa and Debit cards.
We have used them in Canada, Mexico, Germany, All of Scandinavia and Russia. They've worked everywhere its wonderful getting the local currency at a good rate everywhere. Just love bank ATM's.
A call to the Credit Union before you leave the country telling them where your going is a good idea.

RE: Alaska and back

It's a long drive! So have your rig in good shape before starting out.
Going at least part way on a Blue Canoe is worth the cost.
You will be charged on the total length of your rig though.
Alaska Marine Highway
Can't recommend a ferry trip enough. Even if you leave your rig then travel as a walk on passengers to the next port then turn around and return back, you'll enjoy. Pick a sunny day if you can.
Personal favorite is Valdez to Whittier. Across Prince William sound on a nice day WOW!
Driving through a train tunnel to get in/out of Whittier is fun as well.
Have a wonderful trip.

RE: How many nights in your Truck Camper? When? Where?

Bought our camper in November 2003. We've used it so much we've lost count of the nights.
However it's been from Key West, Florida to Fairbanks, Alaska.
In all the western states and most southern ones, three Canadian Provinces and down the west coast of Mexico to Manzanillo and back.
We feel we've gotten our moneys worth out of it already.
We are planing a trip to Europe next year and it would cost about $6,100 to have it shipped to Germany from Tacoma, Washington. But it only costs about $8,000 to rent a motorhome in Germany for two months. Though staying a year in Europe would make the $12,000 round trip shipping feel better. Or someone said it would bring a good price if we sold it in Europe. Still thinking about that.
Retirement can be fun. But I had to get old before we could afford it.

RE: awning for camper

We have the Carefree Freedom 111 crank out awning Lance installs as an option.
Don't use it as much as we thought we would. Also we have damaged it on passing trees and buildings in Mexico.
All in all we like it and would order another if buying again however.

RE: BIGFOOT, How are they doing?

The only problem I see is even in the longer campers the bed is still a short queen (74"). 6" shorter mattress just doesn't work for people 6' or taller, or at least they don't for me. My feet hang over on a 80" matress and I sure don't want 6" of my legs hanging off the bed when I'm trying to sleep. Have to have room at the head of the bed for a pillow and my arm under the pillow and my feet straight out. Take someone that is already 74" tall and try to make them sleep with a mattress only 2" longer.
I have been looking at going back to a Northern Lite and have to stay with the longer campers because the length of the bed.
This is IMO.
ON EDIT: Lots of stuff beat me to it but we do agree that the bed is to short. He is faster typing than I am and my wife interupted my many time in the middle of writing this.
You typed more than I did. But your right, my bed at home is a California king 6 foot by 7 foot long just try finding one of those in ANY RV.

RE: A sad day

Western Washington state has had a cool(nice) summer this year. Hard for us to go anywhere else during a Northwest summer.
We are headed south the middle of next month and hope for some more nice weather.

RE: largest camper that will fit in a 2500HD with a 6foot box

You might look in your trucks glove box there will be a sticker that tell's what weight GM recommends a camper should weigh for your truck. That sticker assumes 150 lbs. under each seatbelt plus the camper weight shown.
If I were you I would only look at campers recommended by their makers for short bed trucks and that weigh less than the number in your glove box.

RE: family trip to NP 2011 need advice

June and July will be hot at the Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon. Even Yellowstone gets it's warmest weather in July. Cooling at night as those parks are all at 7,000 to 10,000 feet in elevation.
June, July and August are the best months for tent camping in those parks. Fishing Bridge is the only RV park/campground in Yellowstone that won't allow tents or pop up's on a regular basis. You will find lot of tents in the other campgrounds of those parks.

RE: Where to Park in Vegas?

We stay at the KOA right next to Circus Circus. Not as nice as the Oasis. BUT they will let you take your camper off. The Oasis won't, and less freeway noise.
Las Vegas KOA
If your 62 years old get the old folks park pass then you can stay for $5 a night at a Lake Mead camp ground. Las Vegas has good freeways so Lake Mead isn't far away in minutes.

I'm no Bass fisherman but we saw some giant stuffed bass that came out of this reservoir near EL Fuerte. Plus it's near the Copper Canyon and that alone is worth the trip

RE: White Rim Trail

One should remember that part of the country wasn't explored very long ago. Many of those roads were bulldozed in during the 1950's Uranium rush. The guy on the bulldozer was paid to put a road from point A to point B by some Uranium prospector so he went the shortest route. His bulldozer could run that route so he figured that's good enough.
I'm 67, when I was a Boy Scout in the 50's some of those canyons had yet to be mapped. I'm not really that old, am I ?

RE: camper resealing phase I completed

Resealing a camper is a @#$% job. One your very glad to have done. We are between reseal jobs just as every other old camper owner is.
When is someone going to make a camper that doesn't need caulking?
When was the last time you heard of anyone caulking their truck?
My T/C pet peeve as you can tell.
