RE: Bringing Guns Into Canada/St. Stephen-Calais

I own a gun and I voted for Obama. I have and will, happily visit Canada again without it. Mark

RE: Camping Alaska without special equipment

When we went in 08 with our truck camper, we didn't really take anything that wasn't normally there. The only thing was I changed the belts on the truck and took the old ones with us. We only took the factory spare and didn't need it. 12,200 miles total. We went as far as the Arctic Circle. Mark

RE: When to retire?

I retired in 07 at age 54. This was primarily because I've lost my hearing and it became dangerous to keep working in my trade. I also had reached 30yrs for my pension. All that being said, retirement is absolutly the best job I've ever had. I'm also fortunate to be covered medically through my wife's retirement plan. Mark

RE: Road conditions through Canada to Alaska and back.

We made the trip in 08 with a TC. We had to replace the windshild when we got home. The rest of the truck came thru fine. If I was going to pull a trailer I would use some kind of stone protection at the front of it. Mark

RE: Can I still get my kicks on route 66?

Last september we spent 2+ weeks traveling 66 from Joliet IL to Amarillo TX and back to ST Louis. You have to work at it some to stay on it, but really enjoyed it. We did it with a TC. We drove many of the old alignments. Much of the very old 2 lane was only 18' wide and can still be driven today. There is an exellent magazine (Route 66 Magazine). Google it. A great read, and source of info. If you do it right you'll be amazed at the people you meet. There were things we missed on the way that we were able to see coming back. We hope to do the rest sometime later. Mark

RE: How to connect trailer with brakes with camper?

If you splice a pigtail into your exsisting wiring harness- you will risk draining your chassis ( truck ) batteries UNLESS you have a isolator ( prohibits the circut to pass current if the key is off) In my opinion- this is what you should have- Dedicated Charging Circut Click Here Good luck How is wanting to be able to use trailer brakes going to run his battery down? It sounds like his camper might be plugged into the plug at the bumper, leaving no access to the light and brake wires. Mark

RE: 9"10" Lance Camper and Tow A 2500 lb Vehicle

I set the camper on this afternoon to eyeball and measure for the extension. Plenty of clearence and the end should be about 3" past the bumper. It looks like the height should match up real well with the base plates on the Jeep. Mark

RE: 9"10" Lance Camper and Tow A 2500 lb Vehicle

Mark, I have a Lance 981 and use the Reese 24", 2.5" extension with no problem. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f282/davedye/DSCN4084.jpg?1280845189 Thanks for the picture. With you using the lower reciever of your Tow Beast you have plenty of clearence. I hope to use the OEM hitch on my GMC, so I will be close on clearing my Lance bumper. I intended to load it today and measure it. Unfortunatly it's been raining off and on and the truck is clean and dry in the garage. Mark

RE: 9"10" Lance Camper and Tow A 2500 lb Vehicle

I've been looking at a Draw-tite Titan 34-24 extension. IT is 34" but is drilled to be cut to 24". I have a 920 Lance, 24" will get just past the bumper. It fits 2 1/2" recievers and accepts 2". The only possible problem I see for me is it turns up just past the pin hole. It rises 3" from the center of the hole to the top of the tube at the end. Tomarrow I'll load the camper to see if it will clear the bottom of the bumper. If it looks good I'll order it. It's rated 6000#s at 24". $169.00 and free shipping at etrailer. I intend to us a Readybrake to tow a Jeep Wrangler. Mark

RE: New Hitch Extension!

The normal 10-12% hitch weight doesn't usually apply on boats of that size. My old 17" with an I/O didn't have 100# TW but pulled with no sway. Total weight was about 2800# Mark

RE: Raising my camper..

I've kept mine simple. I use a treated 2x8 at the front and back and a 2x6 frt and back of the wheel wells. I've done this for 9yrs. Mark

RE: Leaking city water connection on a 920 Lance.

On a second try I was able to get it apart and install a new one. I first tried to flush it with the pump on. As soon as I moved the check valve of the seat the pressure blew the o-ring out of place. After putting in the new one, I took the old one apart. I figured it didn't matter if it broke. At least some can be easily cleaned and a new o-ring installed. Mark

RE: Leaking city water connection on a 920 Lance.

Have you tried just flushing the check valve? Turn the water pump on, and push your finger up inside the city water connection to push the valve open. This will allow more water to flow out, flushing the valve from the inside. If this doesn't fix it, try hooking up to a good city water connection and run water through it. I have fixed a couple of leaks this way. I'll give this a try tomarrow. Mark

RE: Leaking city water connection on a 920 Lance.

I just had to replace mine on my Lance. I took the 2 screws loose on the hose connection and there was a couple inches of slack in the line that allowed me to pull it out and change the connection without taking the range out. Thanks for the reply. I tried that and it didn't seem to want to come out. Maybe I should give it anouther try. It does seem the way it should be done. Mark

Leaking city water connection on a 920 Lance.

The check valve has started to leak a bit when the pump is on. It seems that I need access on the inside to remove it. It's behind my Atwood stove/owen. Can anyone tell me what has to come out and wether I will have to disconnect the gas line to the stove? Thanks for any help. Mark

RE: Did someone finally do it right?

They claim a weight(dry?) of 950lbs which is above the load capacity of all the trucks they list. Especially once people and gear are added to the equation. You mean this has never happend before? Mark

RE: Engine blown. Need some advice from the collective.

If you like the truck consider a new crate engine from GM. I did a full rebuild on a 350 in the late 80s. When I was finished I found out I could have bought a new one for a little less, and would have had a warrenty. Mark

RE: Long or Short Bed?

I believe you'll be very happy with a long bed. I have a Lance 920 and wouldn't want anything smaller. Mark
