RE: Crushed runners in bed of truck?

My last truck had indents across the front from the screws Lance used around the bottom. This was when the camper was directly on the floor.

RE: how do you plan your trips?

Sometimes a little planning helps. That being said we've traveled for thirty five years with only a little planning. It's caught us a few times, but we managed.

RE: Big Bend National Park - Can we take our dog?

It only seems like they aren't allowed on the trails of all parks. I'm from N.E. Ohio and volunteer in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Dogs are permitted on all trails within the park.

RE: Oven Burns EVERYTHING What Can I do to Fix

First of all, I WOULD NOT REPLACE THE OVEN DOOR INSULATION WITH DUCT BOARD AND PUT A DECORATIVE BOARD ON THE OUTSIDE! :E You're looking for a fire there!
Actually, after I installed the ductboard and before I installed the wood front, I fired up the oven and cranked it to the max for about an hour. Outside of the duct board read about 85 degrees on a digital temp gun. Been used many hours since with no issues.
IMO, it's still better than that wad of cotton that was in there.
That COTTON was more than likely ceramic, a much better, and safer choice than your foam. If you have 85 degrees on the outside, it is much higher on the oven side. That COTTON will withstand 1000 + degrees.

RE: A few questions on Dualies

This past summer I went from a 2500 ext-cab long bed to a 3500 drw cc. Its driven occasionally without the camper. It looks pretty intimidating to drive, but I found it much better than I expected. It won't fit some drive-thrus and I don't recommend parking decks.
I can't yet answer the part about bad weather but I went from a 4x4 to just RWD with a dually. I'm going to put about 400#s in the bed for winter. Unlike a gasser my diesel won't know it's there.

RE: Rt 66

In september we Spent 2 1/2 weeks going from Joliet IL to Amarillo TX and back to St Louis. It was a great trip. We will do the rest another time. We did this with a TC.
If you truly want to see the sights along 66, the old alignments, historic spots, the tourist traps, and meet some of the very interesting people along the route, it will be hard with a trailer.
From Amarillo west I believe, would be much easier.
Alot of the road before the 60s, especially the rural areas was only 18' wide for 2 lanes, although it can all be bypassed. We traveled a section of the 1926-1930 route that was/is one 9' paved lane with two wide berms. It is still a farm road.
To truly enjoy the trip, you would have to base camp 80% of it. For us though, this is how we travel. Seeing the back roads and sights that are too fast going away.
Sorry for the length, but It was a most enjoyable trip.

PS. There is a ROUTE 66 magizine with a web site that is exellent for info.

RE: Replacing plastic water heater drain plug with anode

Kind of related to the anode...
I recently added a Camco brand drain valve in place of my plastic plug to make winterizing faster and easier (we use the camper year round).
It's brass...will this cause a problem with the aluminum tank like the anode might?
I had a plastic one brake in my 5er, so I replaced it and the one in the TC with the brass one. I nolonger have the 5er but the one in the TC is about 4yrs old. I used teflon tape on the threads, and have had it back out once to look at it. So far no problems.

RE: Replacing plastic water heater drain plug with anode

The Atwood water heater does not require an anode rod. To add one is inviting problems. However replacing the plastic plug annualy is a good practice. Why? I've used the same one now for 7 years now, no problems. I can see maybe purchasing a back up to keep on hand, but no need to replace anually.
If yours hasn't failed yet, IT WILL. If you don't want to deal with a broken plug you should change it. And it can be a pain. Been there - done that.

RE: Tire pressure on tv

The max cold pressure is if the tires are loaded to their max capacity. Most SRW trucks with 2500#s pin weight could still be 1000#s or more under the combined tire rating.

RE: Am I done??

Our TC is stored year around with the cabover windows open about 1" and the bath vent open a little. The windows are awning type that open from the bottom. If you have vent covers on the roof vents, nothing should come in.

RE: What's on your pick-up when the campers not?

I was thinking about a canopy or Tonneau cover for the pick-up now that the camper is put away for the winter. The canopy is lowest on the list - where do I put it when the camper is on, how heavy is it to move, limited visibility in the city, etc..... The cover I like right now is a 3 piece folding one - Trifecta by Extang or the knock off that Canadian Tire sells up here. Anyone have this cover? Or any other cover they like?
I have the Trifecta. I'm very happy with it.

RE: What's wrong with those lists of "dangerous foods"

I believe only raw potatoes are bad for dogs. Once cooked are OK. They can't digest raw potatoes. We once had a Husky that ate an entire bag of Toll House chocolate chips. She was one sick puppy. Fortunatly she threw it all up, not so fortunatly it was three brown piles on the carpet. This happened when we weren't home.

RE: Diesel fuel filter JUST IN CASE

One of the cheapest options is a WIX or Napa filter purchased online from Fleet Filter. You can save money from the dealer at any NAPA store usually and get a quality filter.
Common Truck Application page
I bought a Wix for the trans. It is made in China.
