RE: Heat loss/ Gain design critera for van conversion

Bill, I believe yours is rated at 12,000 BTU, at least that's what the web site says. One major factor is how long you drive the van, because if you drive it several hours at hwy speeds, the chassis gets hot, and it takes a long time for it to cool down. The wheel wells get so hot you can't even touch them. This make cooling the van a lot more difficult. There are things you can do like spraying water on the bottom of the chassis, opening the hood, and parking on grass, or dirt. To the op, the older Roadtrek's had 8,000 BTU A/C's, and I think most of the owners will tell you that they don't help much.

RE: Heat loss/ Gain design critera for van conversion

It's not going to matter what state you are going to camp in, a 9,000 BTU unit is too small, it would just be a waste of money. You would be almost as well off with a good roof fan like a Fantastic fan, and one or two small wall, or table fans. Probably only a few degrees difference between this set up, and a 9,000 BTU A/C. Anywhere that's over 100 degrees, even a 13,000 BTU is not going to make living in the camper very comfortable. As Fred mentioned, there are several options for heating.

RE: Heat loss/ Gain design critera for van conversion

No way a 9,000 BTU is good enough, you need something in the 13,000 BTU range. For example, under ideal conditions (a cool chassis), a Roadtrek, or PleasureWay's 13,000 BTU A/C will only cool the van down about 15 maybe 20 degrees max. With a hot chassis, from driving all day, you are probably looking more at 10 degrees. Search the forums here, there are a lot of threads about this.

RE: Changing the airconditioner in Roadtrek 210

Old model 210 from the 90's, or the new wide body 210?

creeper, you are one paranoid dude. I think you need to get off the Mac, and check yourself into the nearest Apple Rehabilitation Center. :B

RE: My gripe with Apple, and my iPod, Touch 2g.

Here is an excerpt from the Apple website on cables qand third party cables. Big Katuna, thank you, and the other posters that posted helpful information. I saw similar cables that were Apple branded, that said they would work, but then read replies from posters, who had problems with them. Maybe it was just user error, but I decided not to take a chance, and since I have a $20 gift certificate for the Apple store, I will just buy them there. Thanks again.

RE: My gripe with Apple, and my iPod, Touch 2g.

Creeper, I wish you would quit putting words in my mouth, I never said anything about a conspiracy. I just asked a simple question. And yes, I saw the date, and just because it's old information, doesn't mean it's not relevant. I'm just trying to get the correct cable, the first time, so I don't have to go through the hassle of sending it back if it doesn't work, which seems to happen a lot with other people who have purchased cables for the Touch 2G. Anyway, it's now a moot point, as I will go to the Apple store tonight. It's got to the point here that one can not say any thing slightly negative about Apple, that you don't respond with a way overblown, Apple can do no wrong, answer. I won't be asking, or criticizing anything about the great "Apple" on this forum again. I will add that I like my iPod Touch, and I'm certainly not a Apple hater.

RE: My gripe with Apple, and my iPod, Touch 2g.

Here is the problem with me finding A/V cables that work with the Touch 2G. Even though there are cables from manufactures that say they work with the Touch 2G, and have the chip built in, buyers report that the ones they purchased didn't work, and they gave up wasting there money on after market cables, and just purchased the ones from the Apple store. I found after market ones that look like they will work, but are $40 + shipping. I guess if I decide to get them, I will just go to the Apple store, and save myself any hassles buying on line. For AstroRig57 I disagree with your post, and would like to hear what you have to say about the information I posted in regards to the authorization chip built into the cables.

RE: My gripe with Apple, and my iPod, Touch 2g.

If what you say is true, then my Belkin dock should work, but it doesn't, and it seems this article explains why, and that is because of an authorization chip which blocks the A/V in my Touch. http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/backstage/comments/whats-inside-apples-2007-av-cable/ There are many, many posts, on the web that say basically the same thing. Here are 2, of several that I found on the Apple forum. "You can plug anything you want into the audio output (headphones port) and get great audio out into a TV, receiver, etc. However, when you use AV cables and the bottom 30-pin connection for video out, this is where Apple gets you. You can't use any other make of cables as they will not work. Feel free to try, but save your receipts because nothing except for the Apple AV cables for video (composite or component) will send your movies, videos, tv shows, etc. to another video source." "No other AV cables will work other than the Apple AV cable. You'll notice a small white "triangular" piece attached to the cable between the cable ends and the ipod connection. This is some sort of authorization chip designed by Apple. Without it and their cable, the video out feature is disabled. If you plug in any other cable, you'll see a screen that says "TV Out Enabled. Please Connect Video Accessory." It will only not show this screen if you have the Apple AV cables plugged into the ipod. Any other brand and you're stuck on this screen with no video out." "You can search through past threads here to verify this, but is unfortunately is true. Dynex or other manufacturers might not be aware of this and they have their hands tied because of how the video out feature is designed by Apple in the new ipod classics and nanos."

180 Degrees South

If you subscribe to Netflicks do yourself a favor and check out this film. You can stream, or get the DVD. Pretty much the ultimate camping adventure trip. Oh, and a great sound track too. 180 Degrees South "Inspired by pioneering outdoorsman Yvon Chouinard's freewheeling 1968 van trip to Patagonia, South America, a band of bliss-seeking surfer-mountaineers sets out -- in 2007, by boat -- to remake the journey in this adventure documentary. Jeff Johnson and his buddies hug the coast, stopping at the Galapagos Islands and Easter Island before arriving in Patagonia -- a region that's still breathtaking but is now besieged by environmental threats."

RE: Stowaway cargo carriers

Hi My Roadtrek, The Excel TS has three seat belts and three shoulder belts for the back seat. That is why "sitting" in the back, while in motion is related to my question of ride comfort. Thanks for your comment. Rod You said. "lying down on the back bed when moving." that is what I was replying to. Hard to use a seatbelt in that position. I know you are moving from a Class A. to a B, and there are things you can do in a Class A, that you can't in a B. I was not trying to be the safety police, but when I read that I thought it needed a reply, if not just for you, but for new Class B RVers.

RE: My gripe with Apple, and my iPod, Touch 2g.

The Touch 1G, and older iPods worked with regular cables, I was wondering more why they changed to the ones with the chip, any reason other than making money? I never said anything about Apple ripping people off, I'm all for capitalism, but $25 to $30 is a lot more than nothing, as I have several of the old cables that would work if not for the chip. To YGuy thanks for letting me know it would be my own fault. Have you tried your cables with a Touch 2G? If they work, would you please give me the link to them. I just purchased a Belkin dock that said the A/V would work with a Touch, turns out it does, but not with a Touch 2G. I know I should have done more research, I'm an idiot, but the dock works as a charger, which is what I really needed it for.

My gripe with Apple, and my iPod, Touch 2g.

I have a Touch 2g, and Apple has locked out the A/V to TV using other manufactures A/V cables, you must now buy Apples A/V cables, that have a proprietary chip built in, for $50. Anyone know if there was a reason for doing this other than to make more money? It would be nice to have the capability, but for $50 I can live without it, at least for now. ;) http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB128LL/B?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY

RE: Stowaway cargo carriers

Not to go too far off topic, but are you really thinking about having someone lie on the the bed while driving down the road? I think that is illegal in pretty much every state, not to mention your liability if an accident should occur. Everyone needs to belted in while the van is in motion.

RE: Towing with a V10 Class B

Does anyone else think towing a 7,000# trailer with a PW who's tow limit is 5,000# is unsafe? Not to mention that it's probably way over the GCWR for the PleasureWay. Could/would the insurance company refuse to pay the claim? I have heard of the Highway Patrol weighing vehicles for their accident reports. I don't mean to wonder off topic, but I would think this is something the op should be aware of. Just becausae someone posts here that they do something doesn't make it legal, or safe.

RE: Roadtrek 210- scary brake pulsating

Yep, Jim is correct, overheated the rotors, and possibly glazed pads. Here is a good article on the subject. Over heated brakes I would think about taking it to Brake Masters, or another good brake specialty place, and have it checked. Dealers are usually the most expensive, and not necessarily the best.

RE: Towing with a V10 Class B

What is the towing capacity of your PW? I thought it was around 5000#, but could be mistaken.
