RE: MMap and Rig Photo

I believe I have followed all the instructions for posting a picture for my signature of my rig and toad. So far no luck. I've cropped the picture to as small as it can go. What am I doing wrong? An error message keeps coming up.

RE: How about a Smart Car

We have not yet taken the Smartie on the highway. But driving in the city (Zephyrhills and the Tampa Bay area) and other places we get 37 mpg. We have the complete tow bar system but no breakaway. We were told at the car dealer and at 2 RV dealers that because of the light weight of the Smartie an auxillary breaking system was not required. Hope this answers some of your questions. So far we are very satisfied with the performance of the Smartie. Since it is so light we don't even realize that the Smartie is behind us. Have to keep checking. There is also NO strain on our Road Trek. By the way, I have never put in more than $20.00 into the gas tank and that's when the fuel gage shows 1/4 tank.

How about a Smart Car

We tow a 2009 Smart for 2 car. It is flat towable, and only weighs 1800 pounds. No brake buddy is required. We tow it behind a 2001 Road Trek class B. No problems. When I learn how, I will post a photo. We used to have a Class A and a Class C and towed a Ford Focus with manual transmission. It also was very easy to tow but needed a brake buddy. Larry G.

RE: who has Gone From a class A to a class B?

We got rid of our 37' A and figured we were out of the RV lifestyle. Then we went to RV World of Lakeland (FL) and saw their selection of B's. We purchased a used Road Trek 200 and haven't looked back since. Yes we gave up lots of storage space and plenty of room. However, we don't require as much as we did when we had the A. We have already been on 3 trips and are getting ready to leave after Labor Day for OK and US Rt 66. And, yes, we have a toad. A 2009 Smart Car. We found that it was a pain in the neck to hookup and unhook just to tour around. Thus the toad for the convenience. If it's just the 2 of you plus a small pet you will love a B. Just remember, you give up a lot and save a lot. Good luck with any decision you make. Larry G.

RE: Campgrounds on or near US Rt 66

eubank: You are right. First of all not from Ft Smith but further north and cross into OK near Miami. We only plan doing OK and possibly part of NM. We do have info from OK about Rt 66 but nothing on campgrounds. I guess I'll just have to go over the map in conjunction with the Trailer Life Campground directory. Thanks for setting me straight.

RE: South Carolina I-95

We moved to FL last year from SC. The route we take is basically US 1 from Wrens, GA all the way to Folkston, GA. It's a great ride and the towns you go through are not bad at all. When we get to Folkston US 301 mergers into US 1. We then take 301 to our home in Zephyrhills just north of Tampa. The main roads in SC, including I-95 are some of the worst in the US. It is my humble opinion that SCDOT is in league with Satan and auto repair shops.

Campgrounds on or near US Rt 66

We are planning a trip shortly after Labor Day on Rt 66. If anyone has done this trip can you tell me if and where the campgrounds are located. I have a series of Rt 66 maps and the Good Sam Campground Directory to work out our route. We are planning on going up the west coast of Florida, through LA up the Natches Trace Parkway and then AR to the OK state line near Ft Smith. We do as little interstate driving as possible. Any assistance would be appreciated. Larry G

RE: Towing a Smart Car

Well, everything was installed per Smart Cars. We left on our trip on Thursday. Stayed 1 nite in Starke, FL at KOA (very nice). Then continued heading north. Got to Myrtle Beach (Lakewood CG), unhooked, and much to our dismay discovered the car would not shift into any gear. Remained in neutral. Called Smart roadside assistance. Told them the problem. They couldn't figure out the problem. So, the car has been towed to Charleston, SC. I pray it's not the transmission. Smart Roadside seems to think it may be a computer glitch causing the tranny problem. I hope so. So, all you folks who have Smart Cars, make sure all the wiring is done correctly and same with the other installation.

RE: Towing a Smart Car

Finally!!!! We went to Connibear RV in Lakeland. They have most of what we needed in stock so we can tow our Smart Car. They have ordered the Blue Ox base plate and have in stock the tow bar. They will be installing this coming up Wed (8/5). Then we will venture out on our trip to the Outer Banks of NC. Needless to say, we are getting a little excited about the trip. I say all of this because we travel with a small dog and were concerned about sightseeing and leaving him in the MH with the generator running.

RE: Campgrounds along US 17 between FL and NC

Thanks for the info especially around Charleston. My wife has a thing about high bridges thus the detour around the city. The Cooper River Bridge is too high for her.

Campgrounds along US 17 between FL and NC

We are planning a trip to the outerbanks in NC next week. We do not use the interstate if at all possible. We plan on picking up US 17 north of Jacksonville, FL. We will by pass Savannah and Charleston and then get back on 17 north of Charleston. My question: Are there any campgrounds along the route (excluding Myrtle Beach)? Thanks Larry G.

Anyone tow a Smart Car? We have one and are waiting for parts in order to tow the little guy. Parts are the mounting plates and towbar. Larry G.

RE: I-95 in South Carolina?

As a former South Carolinian I can honestly say that most of the roads in SC are in poor shape. US 17 is not bad although the traffic can be terrible especially through Charleston and Myrtle Beach. Anyway, no matter how you go, have a safe trip.

RE: ocean lakes vs myrtle beach travel park

never stayed at either place. that said, we have stayed at pirateland and lakewood (both near ocean lakes). Both are really nice. Lots of golf carts but no problems. You can rent a golf cart at lakewood. There are plenty of activities at both places especially for kids. Have fun no matter where you stay. By the way, there is a traffic light at lakewood but not at pirateland.
