Truck Broken Into

My truck got broken into last night at my daughter's house in Sacramento, smashed driver side window and took the gps reciever and the control head to the Icom 706 mk II ham radio, dint touch the camper. I called 911 and got admonished for using 911 for a theft and that I was to report it on line or at a police station, they were not sending anyone out to investigate. After submitting my report online I recieved this from them (edidted out the private stuff): It is impossible for detectives to personally discuss each and every case with all crime victims. A detective “will not” routinely contact you, unless the detective requires additional information. Your report will be evaluated by the Detective Division to determine if the case will be assigned to a detective. This determination is based on the following “Solvability Guidelines” 1) Suspect Named, known or Identified. 2) Investigative leads that can lead to an arrest. 3) Likelihood that an arrest will be made. If there are 1) no suspects, 2) no investigative leads or 3) little likelihood of arrest, the case will “NOT” be assigned. Looks like it will be electronically round filed by them. I can get a traffic citation one hell of a lot easier then getting any response to this.

RE: Sales tax on new purchase

I live in San Diego, and purchased a new Lance right across the border in Yuma, Arizona. Dealer told me I didn't have to pay the 8% sales tax for AZ or CA. I did everything in AZ except give him the check. We both went to CA for that, and that was how the sales tax is avoided. Dealer says he does it all the time for truck campers. CA doesn't require registration of truck campers so CA never found out about my purchase. All 100% legal. Not all dealers do this. But this one did. I don't mind saving thousands of dollars on a purchase when I can. California does require you to report and pay sales tax on out of state purchases when you file your state income tax.

RE: Norcold Fridge Problem

Got it out and cleaned and reaasembled, still the same problem. Does have a good flame when lit but wont stay lit. Had almost the same problem with my heater and turned out to be a circuit board problem, I am suspecting this might be the same. Do they have a history of circuit boards going out? Thanks for your help. Dave, I will see you at Doheny with my new woodie. Cheers

My my 2002 Norcold fridge has ran great since new except for flame out probems which I fixed with a baffle. Now it wont stay lit for more than an hour or two before faulting on flame out. Works just fine on 120. any ideas what is happening or has gone bad.

RE: size of camper, size of truck

I have had a 9 foot bed length camper on my standerd cab Dodge 2500 since when I bought it, had no problems and handling has just been fine. Nice thing about a standard cab is it weighs less and still has the 8800 gvw which gives you more carrying weight. Good luck.

RE: Replacing the Dinette with a recliner or couch

The Artic Fox setup would work great for me, calculated out not too much loss of storage and a little more walk around room but....... Jim and Sues Loveseat Recliner looks soooooo inviting. Sheldon

RE: RV Show in Alameda Fairground in Pleasanton, CA

A very disappointing show compare to prior years, down to only two buildings and a smaller tent. Lance only showed a range of thier campers. The Host double slide was nice though....

RE: Oil Changes on a trip?

For me with my Dodge CTD I found the Cummins repair shops were best, never a problem with my camper and the correct filters.

RE: Shipping TC to Europe?!?

I have been pondering the same question for a couple years, looking at 2011 myself, the question is with what? My Dodge and Summerwind camper would do it fine but parts and service for the Dodge may be an issue, don't think Fiat dealers would like me there even though they bought Chysler. The camper is 120 volts and Europe is 240 so a converter is needed, not a big issue but the amperage is lower, a/c and microwave may not work well if at all. A gernerator from home would do the trick. Propane is not a problem as there are adapters for filling and many of the stations have the adapters or you can buy your own set. As for driving mainland Europe drives like we do, on the right and the signs are not to hard to figure out. The British Isles drive on the left so you got to be careful. Campgrounds are plentiful and most are convenient, some right in town. Usually a bus or tram is available nearby. Fuel is expensive but the daily mileage will be less as Europe is smaller than the US. There is someone on the rv.net that shipped a Winnebago Rialta over and used it in Europe with good success, right size with most of the amenities. Their website is: http://travel.jeffersoncampervan.com/ Can rent there but expensive if for more than a couple weeks, I want to be there for about 4 months. I think you have to be a resident of Europe to buy one there, need to follow up on that. There are a couple good books on amazon.com, search rv in Europe. I got to decide what to do, options, options...lol

RE: Bathroom vs. Storage space (also water heater question)

After having a camper without I am glad I have one with a bathroom, Mine is a wet bath and functions good enough for my purposes. As for storage the best advice is if you didnt use it, dont bring it next time.

RE: Need tc towed

Depends how much overhang over the back you have. Must tow trucks can handle the weight with no problems. If you have a lot of overhang the back may drag going in and out of driveways, if you have airbags, airing them up to maximum will help. Good luck.
