RE: Oil Changes on a trip?

For me with my Dodge CTD I found the Cummins repair shops were best, never a problem with my camper and the correct filters.

RE: Shipping TC to Europe?!?

I have been pondering the same question for a couple years, looking at 2011 myself, the question is with what?
My Dodge and Summerwind camper would do it fine but parts and service for the Dodge may be an issue, don't think Fiat dealers would like me there even though they bought Chysler. The camper is 120 volts and Europe is 240 so a converter is needed, not a big issue but the amperage is lower, a/c and microwave may not work well if at all. A gernerator from home would do the trick. Propane is not a problem as there are adapters for filling and many of the stations have the adapters or you can buy your own set.
As for driving mainland Europe drives like we do, on the right and the signs are not to hard to figure out. The British Isles drive on the left so you got to be careful. Campgrounds are plentiful and most are convenient, some right in town. Usually a bus or tram is available nearby. Fuel is expensive but the daily mileage will be less as Europe is smaller than the US.
There is someone on the rv.net that shipped a Winnebago Rialta over and used it in Europe with good success, right size with most of the amenities. Their website is: http://travel.jeffersoncampervan.com/
Can rent there but expensive if for more than a couple weeks, I want to be there for about 4 months. I think you have to be a resident of Europe to buy one there, need to follow up on that.
There are a couple good books on amazon.com, search rv in Europe.
I got to decide what to do, options, options...lol

RE: Bathroom vs. Storage space (also water heater question)

After having a camper without I am glad I have one with a bathroom, Mine is a wet bath and functions good enough for my purposes. As for storage the best advice is if you didnt use it, dont bring it next time.

RE: Need tc towed

Depends how much overhang over the back you have. Must tow trucks can handle the weight with no problems. If you have a lot of overhang the back may drag going in and out of driveways, if you have airbags, airing them up to maximum will help. Good luck.

RE: In your opinion????

mranger,
Since you asked. Have you thought of keeping the camper and truck and getting a fifth wheel or travel trailer? That way you have the camper for when the entire family is not going and also a way to take the entire family. I think for the price of the Host motorhome you could easily add a fifth wheel or travel trailer. It does not appear that money is much of an issue with you so why not have both?
Simpler, hook a tent trailer to the truck camper and use it as the "kids room"...

RE: When is a truck "A Truck"?

From the Oregon Revised Statutes:
801.355 “Motor truck.” “Motor truck” means a motor vehicle that is primarily designed or used for carrying loads other than passengers.
811.111. (1) A person commits the offense of violating a speed limit if the person:
(a) Drives a vehicle on an interstate highway at a speed greater than 65 miles per hour or, if a different speed is posted under ORS 810.180 (3), at a speed greater than the posted speed.
(b) Notwithstanding paragraph (a) of this subsection, drives any of the following vehicles at a speed greater than 55 miles per hour on any highway or, if a different speed is posted under ORS 810.180 (3), at a speed greater than the posted speed:
(A) A motor truck with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds or a truck tractor with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 8,000 pounds...
When I posted these rules previously, many responded that their PUs were designed/used primarily for transporting passengers. Guess that 10000 lb GVWR is for all those passengers in the crew cab. I knew we were getting heavier, but..
Time to put us and our trucks on a diet....:E

You are at almost the maximum height of 13' 6" allowed on the road, any more and you will be illegal.

I still have the original batteries in my 2002 Dodge diesel truck, amazed me they have lasted with no problems and the truck does sit for 6 months while I am in the Philippines. Maybe I am just lucky....

RE: Rough ride with supersprings - what to do?

I remember I trick I did back in the 70s when I had a Datsun truck that rode very rough. I put a set of coil over shocks on it and it really improved the ride and still had the load capacity of the springs. I dont even know if those kind of shocks are being made today...

RE: Truck Campers and HOAs

Finally gave up and moved the camper outside of the HOA, I may be violating the next door neighborhood's HOA but they dont know me there and it gets moved daily. I will be leaving early in a couple of days anyway. The issue that ended it is when I asked the LEO what would they do if the HOA had it towed from the public street? The answer was that they would probably make a report and forward it to the District Attorney's office for action, effectively washing their hands of the situation.
Doing internet searching I came to the realization that HOAs can enforce their rules on public streets with the homeowners and their occupants, as per the agreements of buying the home in the HOA. Enforcing the HOA rules on visiters and non residents is very grey with no real case law to go from and my mom or I have no financial means to try it nor do we even want to.
Enforcing HOA laws is a civil matter in the courts is based "perponderence of the evidence" which is a lesser standard than "beyond a reasonable doubt" in criminal courts so the HOA has more power to enforce their rules than the LEO with the vehicle and penal code, amazing, isn't it.
Thanks for your responses and insights, this situation was quite an eye opener even though I have lived in HOAs and dealt with them in my employment.
wnjj said it best: The home owner simply needs to claim they don't know who the wierdo with the camper is.

RE: Truck Campers and HOAs

Thanks for the replys, it is an interesting scenario. The street is public as confirmed by the LEO and the LEO has no problems of me parking there. The HOA is run by a full time manager with a reputation of being a tyrant, even made my mom remove a hummingbird feeder from a tree. The manager is impossible to talk to, wants the camper gone now.
I have had experience with HOAs living in them and through my employment with a utility. Most are very cooperative and a couple tried to get me arrested for tresspassing while doing my job. Most are very inexperienced with state and local laws reguarding streets, easements, and posting requirements.
This is the first HOA with public streets that I have seen trying to control the streets, it is a 55+ neighborhood with retired people. Its obvious many don't have anything better to do. I wil be checking with the city on Monday to see if they planning dept has given the HOA control over the streets. The CC&Rs do restrict the size of my vehicle but not the weight as it states no one ton trucks and mine is a three quarter ton, I am over the height limit of 8 feet. I don't intend to make waves but this was a surprise, I may just leave early to avoid the battle. I dont camp in the camper as I stay in mom's guest room.
This is my only vehicle so it makes for an inconvenience for me if I have to put it in a storage lot. Also it it's not parked there all the time as I am off seeing sights and visiting with it. Parking it in another neighberhood may be an option but will I be violating their CC&Rs?
