RE: Need bumper support for Ford F350

I had the same problem with my Happijacs, but had my ace welder fabricate tie downs similar to Torklifts that inserted in the sides of the receiver hitch. They work great. Ditto Did this years ago and never a problem, strong as h#$l to!

RE: Lance power cable options..

I had a 835 in my 05 F-350. I put the plug on the left front on the inside of the bed and it could be reached by going through the access door under the sink in the camper. It worked out great. Measure from the front of the camper to the center of the access door and place the plug on the bed wall at that point and it will be easy to get to. Check etrailer.com for the right plug to tie into the existing harness.

RE: Camper Off in California Campgrounds

Article 2. General Park Requirements § 2118. Lot Occupancy. (c) In no case shall a truck-mounted camper be occupied if removed from the truck. Link to Article as I read this it seems that you CAN leave the camper there to go exploring but have to have it mounted in order to occupy it. then there is this all very confusing and open to interpretations Budster, you are correct...A camper may not be occupied if removed from the truck. Also, Special Occupancy Parks include all RV Parks, tent camps, etc. Here is the link for their so called "Mission Statement": http://www.hcd.ca.gov/codes/mp/ms.html I'll probably do the "ask for forgiveness before asking for permission" approach. Although, as indicated before, some RV Parks will tell you up front when you check in that you cannot take your truck camper off of your truck and you sign the rules before you check in (Campland San Diego is that way). Also, I didn't buy my truck camper to stay in RV Parks anyway. It just so happens that some friends of mine have motorhomes and belong to an RV CLub. When I hunt in California, we always boondock. When I go to other states, I try to boondock where I can. so pulling the towed behind me once in a while isn't that big of a deal. Don't get your panties in a bunch, this law is ONLY for "Special occupancy parks" aka trailer parks etc. it has nothing to do with State,Federal or privately owned Camp grounds. In other words it is illegal to Live in your camper at a Trailer park if you remove it from your truck. There are no laws in California that forbade you from using your camper off truck for the purposes that we use them for aka camping and sightseeing. Go camping in Calif. and have fun!!!

RE: Battery power question

If you don't have an isolator between the truck battery and the camper, then yes this can happen. Look at the Truck Camper university link at the top of this forum and you will find alot of info on the different ways to isolate the two.

RE: need help finding a relay

Speaking of relays, I want to hook up my truck to charge the camper batteries. The relay I have seen most use looks like an old ford start relay. Is that it? I have looked at the Truck Camper University for this project and read just about all of the post I could find on this and that is the one question I could not answer. I could have missed the information on this. Thanks for your help Cliff Try here http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SiteSearchView?page=CategoryDisplayLevel1&storeId=11151&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&Ne=2000000&beginIndex=0&N=377+710+2011289&sType=SimpleSearch&pageSize=10 You want a 12v continuous duty relay

RE: Dometic Referigerator Recall Revisited

I wouldn't get too riled up just yet. I went HERE to the recall site and entered your serial number 716xxxxx, actually 71633333, under all 10 models that were affected and yes, they all came up as under the recall. Plus I tried other variations with the same result. I would think something is wrong with the site. What is the model number of your Dometic? I had a Dometic RM2652 that had a ruptured tube and the replacement model was a DM2652. ryoung The model no. is RM2662 and the serial no. is 71605036. Thanks for the interest and help. Jeff

Dometic Referigerator Recall Revisited

Last night I did a search on the Dometic refer recall and read most of the posts about the "fix" which seems to be a shield, and if I understand some of the posts the problem is in the cooling unit itself. Where there is a tube that develops a crack thus leaking flammable gas(hydrogen) into the rear where the burner is. I went on the recall site out of curiosity and read the list of recalled units and mine was not listed,BUT I imputed my model and serial no. and low and behold it said my unit is one of them. My camper is a late 2008 model!! And units serial no. was 716xxxxx. I find this unexceptionable as they have had plenty of time to correct this problem. I would suggest anyone that has a Dometic refer regardless of age to check and see if you are listed. I have come to the conclusion that ALL Dometic refer's have this problem. I am going to lodge a complaint with the company as this should have had a permanent fix several years ago. How do the rest of you feel about this? Jeff

RE: Truck to TC Electric Connector (Bigfoot 3000)

According to my Bigfoot owners manual the yellow is for the back-up lights and goes to the center of the plug. Jeff

RE: ....& another mysterious problem with power

When I made the pigtail for my BF I used the schematic in the owners manual. When I first hooked it up I could tell something wasn't right. The tail lamps would be on and my blinkers would do as yours are doing. What I found was I mirrored the wiring diagram. While they made it look like you are looking at the plug end in the manual, you are really looking at the back side so I had everything backwards. I changed it and all works fine now. It will throw the breaker in the battery box when this happens so it will have to be reset for anything to work in the camper. If you are a member you can go here for a diagram of the pigtail:http://www.bigfootowners.com Jeff

RE: Installing a flat screen tv

I think you will find the walls in most RV's are "wimpy" as this is how they keep the weight down. To strengthen an area to hold a TV or any other item with more weight than the existing wall would normally hold, get a piece of 1/2" maple plywood to cover the area and attach it using panel adhesive and nails or screws to hold it in position until the glue dries(You won't need many nails or screws to do this)It is the glue that is going to hold the panel, realize that the glue is only going to hold as good as the surface it is adhering to, so if you have wallpaper that is bubbling or coming off it will not hold.Finish the panel before or after or not at all your choice. What this accomplishes is it spreads the load to a larger area and gives you something to attach to that will retain a fastener. You can always use heavier material for a backing panel.

RE: Hole reminder!

My gas bottle compartment always has a puddle in it after rain and I have to leave a rag hanging out to wick the puddle out. Mine was doing the same thing, at the bottom of the door they have removed the lip on the frame and it allows water to enter at the top and sides then run down right into the compartment. I put a strip of weather stripping on the bottom and this has stopped the problem.

RE: Generator question please.

Sell the generator and buy your wife coffee at Starbucks on your next 250 camping trips. Just a thought, but, would she ride on the front hitch rack so you could put the generator and coffee maker in the front seat next to you? MY wife doesn't mind drinking INSTANT COFFEE when we camp. I must be the luckiest guy in the world! :_) (I'm JOKING here of course. Don't be offended.) No,my wife doesn't even drink coffee so I can get whatever I want and not get any complaints.(I may gag at times though :) )

To secure your TV and other items you may want to look at something like this. I have had good results with some of these products. www.readyamerica.com

RE: Generator question please.

I would get a hitch for the front of the truck and put the generator there. That is what I did with my Honda 3000i and it worked great, and that gen. weighted 135 lbs.

RE: Front cooler hitch

I put a Warn part # 70480 from "4Wheel parts wholesalers" on my 2005 F-350 and didn't have to do anything special with the driving lights. The hitch looks similar to the one Spott has in his post. Jeff

RE: Is it safe to assume that slide ins won't block my receiver?

If you are in doubt as to if a child is hiding behind the truck, do the prudent thing and do a walk around the truck. I am in the habit of always doing a walk around but even after a walk around I still like to see the rear. maybe a dog can get behind my truck or even a small child can run from behind another car This is one of the systems that was recommended, I was thinking of mounting it on the reciever Sorry for not saying above, thats a nice looking truck......for a Dodge :) Took me a bit to figure the "PEE" tank but I got it.My truck doesn't have one of those but that is the future so far with all the smog stuff they are putting on the new vehicles. When you start researching all the New trucks you will find that they all have something that is required for smog that you may or may not want. Just beware your truck may not require number 1 but it may need number 2 to pass smog:B Thanks, Chevy was my first choice but I needed something fast and they had no long beds in stock and nothing on the way in. the sales person at Ford didn't have anything in stock and said only the manager knew what was coming in. I asked if he could check with the manager and he told me the manager was too busy. Now that I know Ford has a "PEE" tank I am glad the manager was too busy. Dodge a 4WD in stock with remote start. I didn't want 4WD in stock and remote start, they had a 2WD on the way in 3 days but the delivery driver got sick and went to the hospital so it took 7 days to get instead of 3. Now that I have the Dodge I am happy I got it because it comes with Dodges version of a Jake break and it will come in handy when I go over the rockies The only thing I have planned this year is a couple weeks in NY and a trip along the Blue ridge pky on the way back. Then a trip to Tucson AZ late Aug early Sept. Next summer I want to try for Alaska

RE: Timbren setup

This thread almost answered my questions about Timbrens and overload springs. Maybe someone can offer another opinion or two on the subject. I installed Timbrens to address the rear sag I experienced when my camper was loaded. They helped, but what little sag remains still bugs me a bit. And I also think my ride is rougher than I'd like with the Timbrens engaged. The Timbrens are also preventing my overload springs from making full contact with the thin Ford bump stops, even with the camper on board. I suppose the Timbrens are just doing what they were intended to do. Nevertheless, I'm thinking my ride might improve if my overloads were fully engaged. There could be other benefits as well. The problem of course is that the popular bump stop products I've looked at, Stable Loads and Energy Suspension, are much taller than the 2" of space I have between the overloads and the OEM Ford bump stops when the truck is unloaded. If I installed either of these products, my overloads would be in contact at all times. Not a good idea I suppose. Or is it? Are hockey pucks my only way to go? Should the overload springs be re-bowed to come closer to the existing bumps? I'd like a low cost solution if there is one. Oh yeah, and I'm going down to Baja in about two weeks. Thanks. I have the same truck but a F-350 with the heavy duty Timbrens that are about 1.5"from my axle, and my bump stops are nowhere near my overloads I used ENERGY SUSPENSION stops to bring my overloads closer, they make many different sizes. You may want to check them out, they are cheaper than stable loads.

It will all depend on the size and make of the camper.A camper that is over say, 8foot 6 inches will generally hang down past the bumper and block the license thus block your camera. I just bought a Bigfoot 10.4 that doesn't hang down as far as most and the camera is somewhat usable but not to my liking.I don,t know of any campers that block the receiver but if the camper has you are asking about has an over hang it may affect the view you get, as mine does. Why not do what I am going to do if you are in that situation and move the camera to the camper. Just make yourself an extension cord to make up the difference. Don't get discouraged by some of the responses as they may not have understood what you were asking. You won't find a site that has more information and "activity" than this one. And as they say "ALL questions are good as they keep us all thinking. Keep us posted. Jeff Sorry for not saying above, thats a nice looking truck......for a Dodge :)

RE: 99 Ford SD rims.

I found 3415# but that was for a 2001. You can check this site but it only goes as far back as 2000,which should be good enough,I wouldn't think that there would be that much if any difference. Here's the site:https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/topics/mission.html Jeff
