RE: Building cabinet doors for a truck camper

For the panel you may consider using door skins they are thinner and come in many types of wood.

RE: hot water heater

All valves are open and there doesn't seem to be air in the lines. Could a float be stuck in the tank? Is there a float in the tank similar to the kind in our home toilet tank? There isn't a float in the tank it just fills up as you use the water.

RE: Anti-sway bar install in Seattle - FINAL UPDATE 11/11/09 ...

Been on the road awhile with this new, heavier Lance - have decided to get rid of some of the sway ... but am camping between Seattle and Tacoma and know no one here. Will do the rear bar only ... Can anyone advise a good suspension shop here -- and also, how much should something like this cost including labor ... And, is it a kit and where do I order it? Who makes it? And I do have the opportunity to 'borrow' a shop - is this lots of work to install. I'm not a mechanic, but also not an idiot -- go ahead, say it guys :) -- and have been around tools most of my life ... just wonder if it's worth saving the labor ... I don't think anyone here would think you are an idiot, you got a CAMPER and you want to make some UPGRADES. I say go for it and enjoy yourself you won't hurt anything other than your ego,and that is what I call EXPERIENCE. Jeff

RE: Screws in the ceiling

Not knowing the exact situation on where the screws are in relation to the AC ( a picture would help) but if you took the grill off and lifted the AC unit up or pulled the luan down would it be possible to slide a thin piece of metal with epoxy on it on top of the luan? The problem is that the luan is not very thick and it doesn't hold screws that well. Another solution may be to use a expandable metal sleeve like they use in cars and trucks to fasten things to sheet metal, you drill a hole as large as the sleeve and use a special tool to expand it.Then again you could put some epoxy on a screw and put it in and let it dry, that may be worth a try it wouldn't damage anything.

RE: Norcold won't light on propane

You more than likely have a build up on the gas orifice and it isn't allowing the spark to ignite it. I have had the same thing happen and also used a match in a pinch just clean it and you should be good to go.

RE: Fridge operation on Inverter - Camper Plug Wiring

One thing I plan to do is to put a 2 way switch in the fridge compartment that allows me to easily switch the fridge between Inverter and Shore power. That way I can plug in and then simply flip the switch and the fridge continues on on 110 without needing to fiddle with plugs. On my camper, I can shut off basically every 110 volt option easily. The converter has an illuminated wall switch so I can disable it when I want to run the A/C or microwave. The underside of my seats is fairly short to the floor, and that space is already filled with various camper related stuffs (Spare shoes, leveling blocks, etc). Since I already have an inverter hardwired in the camper, its just a matter of getting the charge wires coming from the alternator up to snuff. The onboard wiring is already #4, but the charge lead going from the engine compartment to the camper is still #8. I'm actually leaning towards following Matthew_B's plug style (Though the price is a clencher), but would like to avoid having to find a hole saw to drill out another hole in the sheet metal again if possible. I've read that other thread mentioned, what gauge does this 9 Pin plug take? If it takes #6 or #4, I'll simply upgrade my existing wiring from the 7 blade trailer plug to 9 Pin trailer plug. I used a 9 pin plug and I and if memory serves me correctly it took 6ga.wire. Jeff

RE: OUCH! Ford/GM/Dodge sales

Just around the corner.... Toyota fuel cell evaluation I honestly believe that fuel cell vehicles are pure hype... unless someone finds hydrogen wells out there. I'd much rather see plug in hybrid vehicles on the road. Not trying to get into any arguments here and hybrids are great but do a search of hydrogen and I think you will find it is more abundant than you think. Continued research on all alternate fuels needs to be explored.

RE: So you want a new Camper

I hate to beat a dead horse, but inspect the seams on an upteen-thousand dollar new camper? That's like having to climb under your new Cadillac to make sure it doesn't have an oil leak! THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR SHODDY CONSTRUCTION IN WHAT PROPORTS TO BE A QUALITY PRODUCT!!!!!!! You have a Cadillac that leaks too? I guess it isn't only L camper that does shoddy work because I have had mine (Caddy) in to get it fixed several times:)

RE: TC Hauler Issue

If you haven't gotten the free CPS, get it anyway. It might be the CPS, but then it could be another sensor. The CPS is towards the bottom of the engine, so water may have been an aggravating factor. The PCM enters a "limp home" mode for many sensor failures. Turning the power off and back on can clear the error and normal operation resumes. It could be the injection pressure sensor or the manifold pressure sensor. I particularly would suspect the manifold pressure sensor, since that would lead the PCM to think you don't have boost and won't give you more fuel. It would be best to get the codes pulled. The old PSD requires a special code reader so it may be hard to find a parts store that can pull the codes for you. I would recommend the forum Perryt linked or http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum170/ Ditto, I don't think it is the CPS either. Low oil pressure or overheating will cause it to go int limp mode. Do you have an after market temp. gauge? Or are you going by the factory temp gauge which doesn't tell you much.

RE: Ford tranny oil change

Have you considered Amsoil synthetic? It will improve your transmission performance. It also handles higher operating temperatures better than regular trans fluid. Go to the Amsoil website and do a little looking around if you are interested. Jim The SP is a synthetic and has the API approval does Amsoil? I'm just asking because I don't know. Jeff API certified. You cannot mix the synthetic and regular. A trans flush and fill is fairly easy. The synthetic is more expensive, but if you do it yourself you will offset the extra cost. JIm I have used syn. in all the automatic trans. for quite a few years now especially in my diesel rigs as they tend to benefit the most with lower temps.(I have trans. temp.gauges). I just didn't know if Amsoil had been certified as it wasn't for a while. As far as mixing the two I wouldn't dream of doing it on the truck I have now but It has been done on some cars with some success at the recommendation of the trans. shop to stop the trans. from shuttering between shifts. I would have used 100% syn. in that car after had I not sold it.

RE: HELP!! Looking at new camper...need advice asap!

How come nobody ever mentions the early Toyota class "C" rigs with the huge box on the back? You know the Dolphin? That has to be over weight and is definitely under-powered.

RE: Lance 835

My '05 came with the PD 9145, added the Charge Wizard to it, very simple, just plug into the 4 prong female jack on the front of the charger. Reddog1, isn't the Wizard fully automatic unless you manually override the settings? The instructions make it look like it will automatically drop the charge rate to 13.2 when batteries are fully charged to reduce boiling. The standard PD 9100 stays at 13.6 all the time. Yes it is automatic and yes you can manually override. I have had mine on for 4 years and have never had to add water to the batteries. There is a card that comes with the wizard that tells you how to manually operate it and if I haven't fried my batteries I doubt very much if anyone here will:)

RE: Camper in a storm

A few months back we were camping up near Tomales Bay Calif and were getting 60+mph which wasn't bad, but it was it was hitting the side were the heater and water heater exhaust exit the camper and I was getting a strange smell from the W/H so I went out and turned it off. Just something to think about. Jeff

The OP's original question hasn't been answered, and I've wondered this also. Was just looking myself last night,it was 2005.
