RE: Locating truck stops on the interstates

To be honest. After driving a truck for a few years. I can't imagine it being hard to find a truck stop on the interstate, espesially in the fuel range you have. I'm guessin maybe 7 MPG, and so 700 mile range. Watch the signs on the interstate. You will see them begging you to come in and get fuel. Off the interstate, a different story.

RE: Sure like my new F 150-!~!

Agree drop the seat back a click. Will help alot, and also the LT tires are hard, and do have less traction than a softer tire. I have tires rated to 2601LB on my 150 now. y are hard, and spin easy. Never again.

RE: "You can't stay here, your trailer is too old."

Ell. Y'all can do what you want. As for me. I'm not about to go into debt every 10 years so I can stay in their hotsy totsy RV Rsort. I see no need to get rid of a TT that can with proper care look like new for 25 years. Mine is 6 years old now. It looks better than the new ones on the RV lot down the road. And it will continue to look as good as it does, as long as I take care of it. beside none parks around here have a stupid rule like that.

RE: "You can't stay here, your trailer is too old."

"We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone." And as mentioned. We reserve the right to stay in another, nicer place. Then tell every one what a crappy attitude, and CG you have.

RE: Whats the best way to test the heater on the driveway ?

As mentioned. Just turn it on. However. The furnice uses a lot of gas. So before you go. Be sure the tanks are full. Do not want to run out in the middle of a really cold night. Of course. You may want to invest in a space heater to hepl the furnice if you have hookups. BTW. Where is Hurdle Mills BTW again. Don't be surprised if you don't get heat right away. The furnice in a camper is not like the one in the house. the fan comes on as soon as the furnice does, and blows cold air until the furnice warms it, also. Don't be surprised at the noise. RV furnices are loud. For what it is worth; a home gas furnace will have it's blower turn on prior to the the furnace kicking in just the same as the Rv. It is code and for your safety to blow out any explosive gases that might have leaked into the plenum. In both the home and Rv ones the blower will continue for a short period after the furnace shuts off to clear any unwanted gasses. Jack L The fan on my home gas furnice does not start when the furnice lights. It waits until the air is hot befor it starts. But it is pretty new, well the old one did as well. It will however run for a very short time after the fire goes out. The old one ran twice after it went out. Then too. It is a gas pack. It sits mostly outside the house, as opposed to under the house. But the fan on the RV starts as soon as the thermostat says go.

RE: campgrounds

Well around here. the CGs are doing great, all full, and must call waaay in advance to get a site. I called Myrtle beach last week, and could not get a ocean front site for the 4th of July 2010. And lucky to get where I did. all MB CGs are pretty much full for next summer already.

RE: Proper method to lift trailer for tire removal

I just place a block of wood under the good tire and pull up onto it raising the bad one off the ground Same here All trailers are not created equally. Mine will not do that. My trailer has floating axles. You would have to raise one a really long way to get the other one off the ground. I have seen both tires firmly planted Even with one on top of a 8" speed bump. After all ain't that how the supposed to work? I change mine, with the jack on the axle mount, as close to the wheel as possible. Per Fleetwood.

RE: RV Industry No Longer Running On Empty

Good news...in more ways than one. MSNBC Article Good for now. But wait untill Cap and Tax is passed, IF it is. Then the gas prices will hit the roof. Everything will stop.

RE: This is Driving me NUTS!!!

I really don't know why you guys think 3.55s ain't good for towing. and 3.73s are great. Have you tried it? I have, and do. My TT is 6000lbs+ depending on where it is going. My 5.4, and 3.55s have no problems taking it where ever I want to go. Yes I would gain a little more tow cap with 3.73s, but I would get the same thing by going from 18" tires to 17" tires. 6 of one, half dozen of another. There really isn't that much diffrence between the 2.

RE: This is Driving me NUTS!!!

My tt is a 1997 Wilderness and it said in the manual... gross dry is 4960# carrying capacity is 2210#. The truck Im looking at is a 2004 Ford 150 5.4 engine with a 3.55 rear end. I wanted a 3.73 but the confusion is what the vin says. I dont believe it can pull 10000# but my tt loaded is 6900#. The 2004 5.4, 18" tires and 3.55 gear in 2WD is rated to tow 8000lbs. And going by the way mine towes my 6000lb TT. It will. I have a 2004 Super Cab, 5.4, and 3.55. It does a great job towing my 6000lb TT. I can climb the steepest grades with no problems at all. And the interstate grades are the easiest of all. BTW, If it has 17" tires, it is rated to tow 8500lbs. I actually thought about putting in 3.73s. But there is such a small difference between 3.55s, and 3.73s. It is not worth worrying about.

RE: Relationship Between Wheelbase and Max TT Length

The wheelbase guidline is just that... a guidline. The trailer wheelbase and polaor moment of inertia are much bigger factors in stability than tow vehicle wheelbase. More of a joke. There is NO formula for WB to length ratio. By the time you get too long, you will be too heavy. :?:?:?::?

RE: what to offer?

Hi, Everything is only worth what you can get someone else to pay for it. So if you offer $3,500 and they accept, then it is worth $3,500. But I think that it is worth a little more than that. The air conditioner was probably $650 new. Personally I would be looking at this line. aLiner.com This is because it is a hardwall pop-up. It really does set up in less than a minute, stays dry on a windy or raining night, and will retain heat! I don't know if you ever put away a wet tent, but it requires setting it up someplace that is dry, so it can dry out to avoid mold. With the A-Liner, it is easy enough to dry out. A friend with a A-Liner has two garage doors, the normal one near the street and driveway, and a second one into his back yard where he pushes his trailer into an area to store it. This works out really handy. Good Luck, Fred. Alineres are nice. However if you want to sleep more than 2 people, or have more than one standup. Not so good. So if you got friends or children, a pup is the way to go. If that pup is in as good a condition as you say. $4,000 is not too much. Good ones are hard to come by, and don't sit around too long. So make an offer, and start from there. You may meet in the happy middle, say around $4,400

RE: Planning help for a Thanksgiving Weekend trip in NC...

Thje Blue Ridge mountains will be much, much closer than the Great Smoky Mountains. About 2 hours closer. But will still be 4 or more hours from you. But you could do a trip on google to see how far it is to Say Boone, or Blowing Rock. I believe Honey Bear is open year round near Boone.

RE: Touring the Smoky Mountains

As mentioned come to the NC side. Once there however. You will soon leave the Smokys behind, and ride into the Blue Ridge Mountians. You would love Granfather Mountian, Linville Falls, and Linville Caverns, Crabtree Meadows, Little Switzerland, Mount Mitchell. The list is endless.

RE: Open dump valve

In 3 yrs of full time living and leaving the gray valve open I have had zero problems. In a bricks & sticks house there are no valves to close between your inside living space and the sewer system. Just the same water filled traps that you have in RV plumbing. Safe travels Steve O Girl I work with. just had a snake come thru her sewer into her house. Less room to run in the TT.

RE: Open dump valve

Seems like most folks are ok with this. I don't because there is no trap like in a toilet or sink to keep "something" from finding "it's" way up the hose and into the tank. If you do, be sure to close it ahead of dumping the black so you will have the grey to wash out the dump hose. I don't either. all kinds of creatures (some furry, some scaly) can come into your grey tank, and it is just trap trip away from inside with you. not a good plan.
