RE: Should I sell the Outfitter and get a Northern Lite???

We absolutely love our NL. Quality is outstanding and is very roomy inside. You won't be disappointed if you purchase one.

RE: PC in your TC?

Unfortunately, I cannot be without some form of communcation device for extended periods. We have a netbook that we take camping. We use it for GPS, surfing, email, photos, bill pay, news/weather, work, and anything else we can think of. We have a VZ aircard for access. It is free to us through my work. I also have a Windows Mobile phone that also accomplishes most of the same tasks in addition to keeping me organized.

RE: 14.9% interest!!!!

I agree, credit unions are much more competitive. I haven't been with a bank for 20+ years.

RE: Sliding dinette table – lock replacement

Cool mod. We have the same issue with our NL. Where did you get that lock mechanism? I want to replicate what you did.

RE: In your spare time,

Spend time with family, walk, run, lift weights, computer junkie, watch football (Go DAWGS!), keep up on my continuing professional education credits, and various other things. I have recently applied to a university to be an online instructor.

RE: What do you do for exercise while on the road?

We walk, hike and ride bikes at nearly every place we go. When at home, we do the same except add in weight lifting 3-4 days per week.

RE: Mud Flaps / Splash Guards

Thanks everyone....keep'em coming. I've seen the DuraFlap ones from an article in RV Life magazine. They're on the high price side for me right now. I like the molded ones like Tizi's. Does anyone have the Husky brand? The same manufacturer that makes the Husky Liner floor Liners. They seen to be the popular ones down here in the local Truck shops. I'm going to check GM to see what they offer since I haven't checked them yet.
I bought mine on ebay - OEM factory flaps. They were 65% of the cost that the dealer wanted to charge me.

RE: Mud Flaps / Splash Guards

I know you were asking about a GM product, but here is mine. I bought the OEM ones and they were simple to install. I also added wheel well liners. They really help to keep the rock chips down.

RE: Winterizing camper

I'm not sure that thread is entirely the same as with truck campers. There is a lot of talk about multiple low point drains and running air through and taking tons of time.
What I do is this. First step is to use the cold water outlet valve on the Lance to let the waterpump force my fresh tank empty. That's a nice trick to avoiding the long slow drain that otherwise would come from the tiny drain hose that water tank uses. Then drain the HWH and then replug it (you can't ever seem to get the last little bit out of the HWH.) I don't bother to bypass it when hooking up the air because I have a good sized air compressor and why bother? Air is, ummm, cheap. I just fill the system up with air 40PSI, run each faucet dry, run the hot and cold outlet valves the Lance comes with and repeat a few times to try to get most all of the mist out. Then finally dump some pink in the traps.
I don't understand why the guys on the other thread insist it takes a ton of time....but maybe with all the long runs in a class C it does, I don't know... To me it seems like comparable time - maybe 30 minutes going fairly leasurely and stopping to get anothetr beer midway through.
I winterize my camper every time I go camping in the winter - 10-15 times a year.
This is exactly what I do. Took me 20 minutes. Last year I did the pink stuff because I was not going to use the camper at all during the winter. This year, we plan to use it many times...need an easier solution such as this.

RE: Arctic Fox

You can remove eternabond with a heat gun or hair dryer and replace it after you finish your repair. Or you can slice it and put new eternabond over the old.

Why would anybody get on Wayne's case? I guess I don't get it, but hey, if you think you did somebody wrong and apologize, good for you.

RE: Outfitter trip report: Northwest Passage Final curtain

I know good photography when I see it! I aspire to be better, but it takes time. The shots you take and how you present them is impressive. I can tell you put a lot into your reports and it shows. Keep em coming. Soon, we will do a trip together. Maybe Spring training? :)

RE: Full Timing and Inflation

I plan to work a few months a year as a CPA to offset inflation when I "retire." First off, I want to do it since I love it, and secondly it is part of my retirement plan (I want to retire early - not wait until 67 or whatever). Sell the house, downsize, and snowbird. Work during tax season to make extra money...I can rely on my pension, 401K, and social security (if it is still there then!).

RE: net book computers

I have an Acer Aspire One and we use it pretty much exclusively for what you want - we have MS Streets and Trips with GPS and VZ aircard for internet. If I wanted to tether, I am sure it would also work.
