RE: EastEnd Campers to get bigger

It will be great to have Bill and his crew on this side of the ferry ride to Long Island. Will add a lot for maintenance and advice to truck campers all over the North East.

RE: In your spare time,

Use Delorme Mapping to plan the next trip in the TC including research into interesting places to go. We work the perennial gardens. We both read a lot, I knit/quilt and Joe yells at football on TV. We also are blessed in having some of our New England truck camper friends close enough we get to see them when we aren't on the road.

RE: Ford Diesel Problem

Same exact truck with DRW. We've put 55,000 trouble free miles on it so far (fingers crossed). We regularly use Cetane and do a short wait when first starting the engine before moving and a longer cool down wait if it has been running for hours and hours. Started it few days ago after it had sat for three weeks and had diesel soot. Running it at highway speed (no TC on) for 20 miles cleared the soot. Actually soot was gone by the time we went the 8 miles to where we can go faster.

RE: When Animals Attack!

We hear coyotes almost nightly in mid Maine plus seeing fox are almost a daily occurance. Even with those predators, the most dangerous driving hazard lately are turkeys. Deer at least will run when they see a vehicle (mostly) but the turkeys just stand and stare.

RE: Outfitter Trip Report: Northwest Passage

As always an incredible collection of photos to go with that writeup. Total agreement with you on feeling awe and majesty walking amongst the redwoods. The walks there and out onto Rialto Beach in Olympic National Park were among the highlights of our early June trip. What an incredible country we are lucky to live in.

RE: 2nd Annual North-East Truck Camping "Haunted" Jamboree

We're really missing being there with all the TCers. Fingers crossed that the rain, cold and wind has blown out to sea. Somebody post photos of tonight's Halloween pot luck supper. Want to see all the costumes and especially how Laurie decorated the TC this year.

RE: 2nd Annual North-East Truck Camping "Haunted" Jamboree

We had to cancel going to the Salem rally much to our great regret. Joe had a bout with a nasty case of cellulitis in his leg. He's home now after two weeks in the hospital but not up to camping of course. I've started winterizing the camper since I think we're done for the year.
Shame since we had such great costumes! Ya'll have fun and raise a glass of milk for us - milk right?

RE: Host Everest TC

We've spent many months in our Host Rainier travelling. It fits all our needs and is well built. Our model is a dual slide and sits on a Ford F350 DRW. I would not want to try this camper on anything smaller. We've been in friend's Everest and did not particularly like the east/west bed arrangements and that the clothes areas were all accesible only by getting into the bed area. An Everest should go on a F550 probably.

What we'd give to follow along in your dust. I doubt a hard side, double slide could go where you go. Thanks for the time taken to share this part of our country with us.

RE: Wandering through PA and VA

We did go through Winchester on I-81 headed north. Also stopped in at that big Camping World on the south end of town. Joe finally found the tail pipe exhaust extension he'd been looking for and we picked up a couple of new camp chairs since our old ones were pretty worn out.
All four TCs are back in their respective homes. Pouring rain in Maine but the house is warm and dry, laundry is going and the Patriots won. Joe isn't going to call my brother in VA to rag him about who the Redskins lost to today. Camper clean up tomorrow and then only a short while to wait for the Salem TC rally.

RE: Wandering through PA and VA

Mikeee/Cathie, TincanSailor and Toni, friends Annie/Betsy and TwoMaineiaces (Joe and I) wandered on from the Carlisle rally for a week. We're currently in Pine Grove, PA hunkered down in pouring rain. It rained steadily from far southwestern VA to mid PA. For those of you who travel I-81 and know the 18 wheeler truck traffic, today has NOT been a fun travel day. Since some of the group must be back in MA by Monday, we've pressed on. Haven't looked at the weather for tomorrow but I think we're dragging these rain deluges withs us. Sorry!
Looking forward to seeing some of the TC gang again at Mikeee's Salem gathering in October.

RE: Wandering through PA and VA

Weather might be a bit on the wet side but the company is warm. We just finished a BBQ dinner - Mikeee cooked ribs on the grill with all the usual side dishes. Lovely tin roof over three picnic tables right by the rushing stream. What can get better? We'll head over to Grayson State Park tomorrow for a bluegrass/crafts festival and then head north. House sitter said the leaves are turning and quite colorful this year so something to look forward to. Will be sad not to look in a mirror and see other TCs with us. But we do have the Salem Fall Rally to look forward to in less then three weeks.

RE: Wandering through PA and VA

Long peaceful day just walking around the beautiful woods and enjoying Bobby's camp. He built a suspension bridge over the brook which is always part of what you hear. Bobby and TinCanSailor go back many years and he graciously lets Tin's friends share this site.

We did have fun leveling the campers. Here's what we ended up with for Annie/Betsy's camper. No body can ever say TCers aren't creative. That's Bobby's "camp" behind the TC.

Tomorrow we women will head out to Chateau Morrisette to the winery there and maybe into Grayson to see local craftsmen. Guys will stay behind to clear some of the tree limbs on the small camp road leading in and do some deferred maintenance to the property. Unfortunately Saturday looms close where we once again head north.

Wandering through PA and VA

After the Fall Carlisle PA TC rally, four of us continued on into PA and then into VA. What a joy it is to travel with like minded people who share the same things we like to do. Carlisle was a great rally and we got to meet new TCers and renew old acquaintances. We just kept on going with a bit fewer folk.
It's a real joy to look ahead (or behind) and see a line of TCs riding along.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h288/TwoMaineiacs2/FollowingTCfriends.jpg
Camped overnight in Bedford, PA after stopping at a local winery. My wine of choice is single malt ;) so the winery stops were educational. Our next stop was in Shanksville, PA at the temporary memorial to the 9/11 Flight 93 crash. That was a really sobering sight to see and made me even more appreciative of our freedoms. Plans are drawn for a permanent memorial but I wonder if part of that will be improving the farm roads to get there.
Next stop was "Falling Waters", a Frank Lloyd Wright designed house.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h288/TwoMaineiacs2/FallingWaters.jpg
It was built for under $150,000 and today the operating and repair budget is over $4,000,000 a year. I loved the stone work and roof lines but it was not a house I would want to live in. Joe's head grazed the ceiling in several places and the general scale of the house was not user friendly. Gorgeous to look at but cramped to live in especially the bedrooms.
Interesting camp that night as none of our spots were any where near level and we ran out of leveling blocks and resorted to local rocks. Next day we toured "Kentuck Knob", another Frank Lloyd Wright house.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h288/TwoMaineiacs2/KentuckKnobhouse.jpg
The exterior details were just perfect to fit in with the site - one of FLW's main themes in a house. The kitchen was almost laughable in size as he expected the home owner's to have most meals catered and only to serve snacks out of the kitchen. Beautiful homes to look at but living inside art must not have been fun if not functional. Our TC looked spacious after a few of the house's rooms.
We're now camped near Independence, VA at a friend of one of our TC buddies. Their summer house camp is beside a roaring brook and in a grove of old maple and oak trees. Today has been down time with most of us reading, napping, and planning tonight's super. Last night Chef Mikeeee cooked pork loin, steaks, and fresh veggies on our host's big BBQ grill. Life just doesn't get much better.
We'll leave here Saturday with most of the pack heading north back to New England. We are going to cut up through West VA to visit some train museums and to go to a local "Road Kill Cookoff". Last year's winner was possum.

FamilyTimes - we've got temporary possession of your blongo game. We're camped in the far western VA mountains and the site it too sloped to play blongo right now. Mikeeee outdid himself with grilling supper last night - steak, corn, squash. We miss all our rally friends and see you soon.

RE: If you don't like noob questions and long posts, skip this.

If you post what area you live in (general area) there may be a TC member near you. Visiting a camper in use will give you a lot more idea of what they are, how they can be used and whether you would like it or not. We're currently in mid PA with four other camper friends, watching the Patriots football game in AC comfort. Comfortable seats, good room and good friends. You will meet some really nice people in the TC community. Get to a rally or gathering if you can. Most TCers will talk your ear off about their rigs and why they like them.
We've spent six plus weeks at a time in ours, rarely spending more than two nights in one place and never using a motel. Taking your own bedroom, bath and living room with you beats what could be left behind in a motel room.

RE: 2009 Fall NE Truck Camper Jamboree in PA (Pictures Added)

Great rally Jim and Cathy. So good to have people new to a rally and to our group of regulars. Your organization and fun spirit kept all of us busy all weekend. Hoagies were what? 8' long? and all gone? Cathy the paintings you put in the raffle are going to be hung with pride in several houses.
The dog show was great. Here's the whole pack at judging.
