RE: How do you define camping?

My daughter defines camping as any overnight where the covers have not been turned down and there is no mint on her pillow.

RE: two batteries in series or parallel

It could have been a dirty or loose cable connector. Corrosion can rob power. Your wiring is correct. Trying to run the refrigerator on 12 volt electricity alone will deplete two Group 27s pretty quickly. The 12 volt heater for the propane draws a lot of power and is designed for use on the road. When stopped propane is the power of choice if 120 volts isn't available.

RE: US States Map Decals

For most, I've observed, the maps should be redesigned to show only Interstates, their rest stops, Truck Stops, Walmarts and times between at 75 miles an hour. Which is fine. Leaves all the rest of this awesome country for some of the rest of us who live life in a slower and more adventurous way.

RE: Why would my Power Train/Engine brain burn out

Heat, voltage regulation, design life, design life of parts; I can think of a dozen reasons.

RE: Best scooter for camping??

Or, if you want to go quietly and "eco-friendly" as well as out-accelerate any of the afore mentioned gas guzzlers, go to www.eGovehicles.com. Mine was a blast.

RE: true beginner

Find a conversion van you like, that is used, sound and a major brand (GM, etc.) then camp in it a bit and start to "roll your own." That's what some of us have done. And I had all the bigger ones too at one time or another. Now, there is just me and a sometimes dog passenger. Best place to search is automobile wholesale sales. Or find a broker that you can trust and tell him what you want. Big vans don't stay around long any more, since they don't make 'em like they used to. Work the network. You can see what mine looks like inside and how it got that way at www.cheaprvliving.com. Click on the box on the right side that says Cheap Van Conversion or something flowery like that.

RE: Vibration problem

Are you talking of KM or KPH? Big difference.

RE: Early Class B?

Thanks for sharing. I hope the present owner gets it "on the road" once in a while, where it belongs -- not in a museum. 'cause That's Real RVing!" No class for this one. It's just ALL class.

RE: When is a Class B too big?

I've managed to find parking places anywhere I wanted to go for RVs from the size of the van in the picture, the van plus the little trailer in the picture, the van plus a 24-foot Jayco, motor homes 26-29 feet. What's the difference/ Just get comfortable with what you want and go. Park in the back of the lot if you need to at groceries and malls and where they put you in RV parks. No big deal.

RE: Who's Right??

All the AC stuff is on the right side of the engine. Never heard any whine from mine and it is a 1994 with 129,000 miles on it. Replaced the compressor at about 90,000. Find a better mechanic.

RE: Travel along southern border

Probably safer. I like to stay on the Rio Grande at Texas State Parks from Larado to west of Del Rio. Sites at some are looking across the border which out there has no silly vertical venition blind "fence." I feel quite safe, what with state park patrol and occasional Border Patrol drive-throughs. Not listening to the national TV news helps a lot.

RE: Is this a decent solar panel for boondocking?

Set 'em up on the ground and they can easily "take a walk." You don't want that. Roof is best place.

RE: Limitations to a long travel trailer

Along with the maneuvering limits presented by pickup camper overhang and the liklihood of overweight for a trailer that big behind a 2500 (i.e. half-ton?) pickup, I'd worry big time about stopping the thing in an emergency. And there area a great many blue highways where you won't make the limits for sharp turns and cutbacks. Here in Arkansas, most warn, but it sounds like an idea with better solutions. I pulled a 24 foot Jayco behind our GMC 3/4 ton van for a few years. Too much work. Not enough relaxin'. And what does this have to do with Golden Age Passports? Last I knew they will be honored for the life of the holder unless you lose it. In practice, as Reserve America gets its hooks into more government recreatonal areas, the discounts get to be less and less, however.

RE: Is this a decent solar panel for boondocking?

Chad at Outsidesupply.com and the folks at Carmanaha in Canada, maker of my two panels, were very helpful with the right information and equipment for me. My van has 190 watts of monocrystal solar, controller by GoPower and modified sine wave converter to power microwave for brief cooking. All working off a single Group 27 deep cycle. Works great!

RE: Blood Thinner Users and Travel Safety With Quikclot

Only thing better is have traveling companions who are an EMT/RN and a RN/Nurse educator. That was my luck on a recent week in New Mexico. They're my next-door neighbors.

Consumers Report look-alikes are just that. It takes a lot of money to be an objective reviewer. Few have it.

RE: I Never Hook Up To A City Water Connection. Anyone Else?

Yes, you should occasionally (depending on use, monthly or seasonally) flush and sanitize the tank. Bacteria can grow in any water, regardless of source or time in place.

RE: RV Accessories-What have you bought and regretted?

What did I buy and regret? Three travel trailers and two motor homes.
