RE: Guns in Alaska. (Please be nice)

Just a word of caution about shipping. Long guns are allowed via US Mail but not hand guns unless you are a dealer. You can ship handguns via Fedex or USPS for the most part (read that as it depends on who is at the counter and if they know their own rules) but it requires overnight shipping, which to AK would be very expensive. As a non AK citizen you CAN NOT purchase a handgun legally in the state. I may not be an expert but I have been doing the FFL thing for the last 15 years.

RE: Bottom of over head bed bellying

I just got done doing the same thing to a Coachmen. One small piece to remember is that if you use thicker wood then your trim that doubles as a seal when you use the putty on it will be to short. It only starts out at like 1/2" and any thicker wood will cause gaps. You can either remove it or use longer. I used a strip of Eternabond tape trimmed to look respectable and it has held really well in the rain so far. I did seal the leading edge with Dicor in order to keep the wind from peeling it up. (it actually looks better than it sounds).

RE: Photo Thread - Post a Photo of Your Truck Camper Here

Our first trip out as a family! 3 boys the DW and me near Mammoth Cave. We already have more trips planned. The camper ran me under $3000 even with all of the repairs. http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/DSC000211.JPG

RE: F350 GVWR Question

This isn't going to help you, but I have the same year truck. 2001 CC 4X4 long wheel base DRW. Differences are a 4:10 rear and a 6 speed stick. My specs from he door jamb: Front GAWR 5200 lb Rear GAWR 8250 lb GVWR = 11,500 lb This is a great site for decoding http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/498954-super-duty-and-heavy-duty-______super-duty-tech-folder_____.html What does it say for tires? since these ratings are giving with the tires taken into consideration. Mine says LT235/85R/16E, 16X6 rims, 65PSI front, 60PSI rear.

RE: TC is on the Gooseneck

That would be an upgrade for us! We do the same thing with a 8' camper and a landscaping trailer. If you move the camper back towards the wheels of the trailer you can take weight off of the gooseneck and create a nice covered porch for when it rains! We move ours back a little for centering of the load and just by accident found out that it makes a nice place to sit and relax while staying dry! Oh, and awesome Jeep!

RE: Bed liner

Does either of these liners plug up the drains and make it so that they don't drain water? I have a truck box that stays in unless the camper is on and don't want to flood it out.

RE: My new fixer-upper story (lots of pictures-dial up beware)

Thanks for all of the feedback. The metal brackets on the front overhang I plan on being there for a looong time. The metal brackets on supports I wasn't all that certain about. If I plan on making repairs all I have to do is remove a few staples on the carpet and unscrew the plywood that is on the interior to gain access to all of the work I ended up doing. Oddly, I thought the same thing about lapping the joints but there wasn't a single lap joint in the entire front, they were all butt joints and staples. There's also about 4 tubes of Liquid Nails that isn't visible in the pictures! Jimmy, if you were at Cumberland Falls then that was us! I was eyeing your Dodge as I used to have a 79 Power Wagon 200.

My new fixer-upper story (lots of pictures-dial up beware)

Hello All and thanks for the forum, I am relatively new to the forum and owning a truck camper. I have been all over with my Dad in his over the years but I finally bought my own truck and a fixer upper 93 Coachmen 11.5 footer. It had a few leaks and isn't the cutest girl at the prom but after having the turmbuckles, Happi Jac mounts, and the electric jacks I figure I have about $500 in the camper. Anyway all the leaks are plugged and the cabover damage is fixed and I have already had it out with me and the oldest boy (forgot the camera so no pictures of Cumberland Falls) so it has almost paid for itself! Next is a rehab of the bathroom and some curtains and then all will be done. Starting to discover the extent of the damage; http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00382.jpg http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00383.jpg http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00009.jpg http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00001.jpg http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00007.jpg Removing the old and starting to replace; http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00010.jpg http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00010m.jpg http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00013m.jpg My new contoured corner: http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00007m.jpg Starting to reinstall: http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00005m.jpg http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00014m.jpg http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00016m.jpg http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00018m.jpg http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00022m.jpg and viola! extra plywood makes it better than new: http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww241/westky_photos/DSC00020m.jpg I don't have any completly finished pics but I carpeted it and it looks like it was never worked on. There was a leak in the roof on one side and a leaking window on the other. I have taken it on a short trip and plan another KY park trip this month. I am happy to finally be on the road and if this starter camper works out in a couple of years the DW and I may upgrade once she is used to the RV lifestyle (her first trip EVER will be in a couple of weeks) I finally get to post something besides a question!! RE: Where do You get the track for the front window curtain?

Thank you for all of the replies. I searched at Camping World but I guess I just stink at looking for stuff. Velcro on the bottom is sounding like a pretty good (read cheap) solution. Thanks!

Where do You get the track for the front window curtain?

Okay, I've looked all over this site and cannot find my answer as I do not know what to call it. I bought a fixer upper and one of the things that is missing is the curtains (all of them!) Where do I get the track that you use to attache the curtains in the cabover? I can hang a curtain on the sides a lot of different ways but getting that front one to behave is causing me fits! Thank you, Dave

RE: Front cargo carrier mod

Man that is sharp! Do you have a picture of the whole thing from the front? I have a front mount already but want to do almost exactly what you did. Is the plug mount upfront for your generator?

RE: What type of plug is this?

I went out and checked and there does not appear to be any pins missing or brokeen. Seems that the consenus is to replace it. If anyone needs it just let me know and it's theirs. Thanks!

RE: I'm making my "Alaska List" -things to see-any suggestions?

Hello! I am new but have a little something to add! Ditto to what most have said here! If you go you need to at least go up the Haul Road (Dalton HWY) far enough to get to the Artic Circle. Why go so far and then stop short? The Haul Road has Perils. Pic of a flat in the middle of nowhere.(we had two spares) http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/Dalton_Hwy_41_Flat.jpg The trp is worth it though! Pic on the Haul Road http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/Dalton_Hwy_26.jpg Absolutely everything is worth seeing up there and we are planning another trip from KY next year. Words of advice: If you go all the way to Prudhoe Bay, the tundra after the Brooks Mountains is a little desolate. We had the caribou herd migrating around us so it was nice. Mosquitos aren't very big but there is one million of them per person and they work in shifts! You MUST buy a Milepost Have fun!

What type of plug is this?

Hello all! I am new to the forum and truck camping in general. We have been on two trips one to Prudhoe Bay, AK and one to Inuvik, NW (I know, big starter trips!). My family has had RVs in the past but truck camping allows for more adventures it seems! Anyway, I purchased a 2001 Ford 350 in order to haul my camper and the previous owner had a lot of nice extras on it. (Happijac tie downs, Banks exhaust brake, airbags, etc.) there is also a plug in in the bed that is not a standard plug that I have seen. I looked all over this site and have found anything similar. Does anyone know what type of camper this plug went to? I am going to replace it with one for my old camper but curiosity is killing me! Thanks for the forum! Plug pic #1 http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/Mystery_Plug.jpg Blurry close up http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/Mystery_Plug_2.jpg Thank you for any help!
