RE: Big/Tough Buddy Propane Heaters....More Info

I've got an interstate group 24 battery will this be able to run the furnace all night? I'm new to this camping without electricity and all help would be appreciated.
It is hard to say for certain but the odds are good that it will. It depends on how much the furnace runs which is determined by the outside temperature and the thermostat setting. Unless it is extremely cold and you set the thermostat high it should make it one night. You will need to charge dailey. There are definately advantages to multiple batteries and a top quality high amperage charger/converter.

RE: Tip For The Newbies

Yep, good advice. I carry a bag with numerous adapters. 50 to 30, 30 to 15, 15 to 30, multi taps, 3 prong to 2 prong, and I can even unscrew a light bulb and screw in an adapter to plug in. Yes I have used it!

RE: References on Extended Service Contracts

I would be interested in receiving recommendations on Extended Service Contract companies.
1) I DO want an extended service contract; I am not interested in why I should not get one...
Sorry, I don't have any recommendation since I have never had an extended contract. I just wanted to say thanks for the chuckle I had when reading your post. :) Ya gotta appreciated a woman who knows what she wants. No offense intended. :B

RE: Big/Tough Buddy Propane Heaters....More Info

...I'd really like to use this product rather than haul 30# cylinders 30 miles and run the generator all night.
I don't have any answer for you. Why do you have to run the genset all night? Don't you have an LP furnace? I only run the genset a couple of hours per day to charge the batteries. My LP furnace only requires 12 volt DC.

RE: Big/Tough Buddy Propane Heaters....More Info

I wonder what the difference is between the Big Buddy and the Tough Buddy. Locally Lowe's sells the Tough Buddy for $139 but it isn't listed on Mr. Heater's website. Amazon sells the Big Buddy for $120 with free shipping and Northern Tool sells it for $99 plus $15 shipping to me. Are they the same heater that Lowe's has re-badged as the Tough Buddy?

RE: WISE GUYS RESPONDING TO POSTS

MULEBARN's Reply:
"Dear ol Bombero JC. Didn't reasise that was a rant.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.
That will be my last post on this site, too many way too sensitive people, don't need the drama."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So - after "lurking", 4 posts - and "shouting" WISEGUYS at (me/you/we/us/?), I guess MULEBARN has had enough and is heading back to the barn.
JC
Sounds like maybe mulebarn is the overly sensitive one. It's a shame but if you want to visit a public forum and kick some sand, don't expect everyone to pat you on the back, agree with you, and thank you.
RE: Led lamp modification
900 LUMENS!!!!!
not hardly....I have an led flashlight that will light up the trees at 400 feet...it's only 200 lumens..
:h I don't understand your post but if you are saying that a 14 watt CFL is NOT 900 lumens look it up yourself.
All I did was Google "14 watt CFL lumens". I got numerous sites selling CFL lamps and listing them as 800 to 900 lumens.
RE: Electrical/ battery/ converter/ charger problem
I got a 3612 ds raptor. I put 4 new 6volt batteries in it just a week ago before a trip...
Since you just put the batteries in I would look at your installation first and the batteries second. The problem most always lies with the last thing you worked on;
ie. battery installation.
RE: WISE GUYS RESPONDING TO POSTS
I've not had too much trouble with PMs. Never had anyone ridicule or insult me in a PM regarding a question that I posted.
I have been involved in some exchanges where a thread was closed or got off topic and the conversation was continued in PMs. One female member of this forum was so obnoxious with her PMs and continued to harass me until I blocked her from contacting me. I LOVE a good argument but when it degrades to personal attacks and threats, I will head for the door. I will happily debate most any subject if it is kept civil.
RE: Tom Hanks tells his RV story...
Dolly Parton and her husband used to RV in an older Class C. I never saw them myself but I saw her on some talk show telling some of their adventures. She said most people didn't even recognize her...:-)
Without the wigs, makeup, and fancy clothes she probably looks different. I would imagine it is easier for a woman to go incognito than it is for a man.
RE: Led lamp modification
75 lumens, what is/was the lumens put out by the 14w CFL, we have (2) CFl in 120v sockets that are used when the generator IF the genny is running in evening before Quiet time, have NOT installed a whole hose inverter, the dedicated inverter powers the TV & laptop
With just a quick search it appears that a 14w CFL should be around 900 lumens. A C7 (7 watt) clear night light bulb is around 45 lumens. That makes a 75 lumen LED not much more than a night light in comparison to the CFL.
I applaud the OPs attempt to make a solution that works for him. I have been doing some testing with various LEDs myself. I look forward to the day that LEDs are practical for everyday use, but they aren't there yet.
RE: Looking for a good battery monitor.
Any suggestions or opinions?
Depends on how fancy you want. Here is what I use, just clipped the probes off and hardwired it into the system.
RE: Big/Tough Buddy Propane Heaters....More Info
...I don't know if the mod will allow this link, but IMO, the unit recommended by Bob Vila is far superior and harmless.
http://www.edenpuremidwest.com/?Click=11455
:hWhat in the world does a scam electric heater have to do with discussing propane heaters? The Eden Pure doesn't do anything a $10 cube heater can't do. And it certainly can't operate without electric which is when most people use propane heaters.
As to Bob Vila's endorsement, maybe you don't know he got fired from "This Old House" because of questionable ethics regarding endorsing commercial products.
RE: Black Friday "wally-docking"
I have considered parking the RV at the store for Black Friday but have never done it. Just not necessary.
For those of you that have bad shopping experiences on Black Friday, you are just doing it wrong. We make a family event out of it. We take myself, DW, DD, and grand daughters. We arrive at the store(s) at around 3:00 a.m. Everyone has an assignment and all our purchases are planned out. We most always get everything we want and are done shopping and eating breakfast at our favorite diner around 7:00 a.m. It's the shoppers that show up at 7:00 a.m. that are out of luck, we already bought what you are after. :B
I think guerrilla shopping should be an Olympic sport. My whole family could probably win gold!
RE: Black Friday
Probably not this year but have in the past. There just isn't anything I want, but I haven't looked at the ads yet! :B
In the recent past I got great deals on a Tom Tom GPS, a 19" LCD HD flat screen, Micro SD memory cards, Dewalt drill, portable DVD player, HP printer, and other stuff I've forgotten. It's not hard and actually fun to do Black Friday guerrilla shopping. I'm usually done by 7 a.m. and eating breakfast.
