RE: Need input on a 37CK Next Level from Holiday Rambler

I have an 06 38CKS. Taken it out about 5 times in the 6mo I've owned it. Very happy with it so far, well insulated.
Only thing I've done so far is remove the underbelly and support the tanks a little better. Thin metal and not enough in my opinion, was an easy fix, or in my case piece of mind. Very happy to see all the structural bracing under this rig, 10 times better than my previous trailer.
As far as towing, I have a stock D-max and it handles it great.

RE: Pic Request - WW with Enclosed Underbelly/Heated Tanks

Corrugated plastic is what my DuneChaser underbelly is lined with. Very easy to work with and remove for any needed service. Selftappers and fender washers make it a snap to take off and on. Only thing Not enclosed on my trailer is the fuel tanks. Good call on corrugated plastic.

I'm a little concerned about the spacing between the (from left to right} #1 and #2 tiedown and the #4 and #5 tiedowns.:B

RE: 2500HD rear end sag?

I should have said the overload springs. I was responding to Mapguy and that is what he called them.
Ok, same thing. There are no factory overload springs on 2500HDs.
Mav
Bottom spring in the spring pack is the overload spring. Much thicker than the rest and does not contact the rest of the spring pack when unloaded.

RE: 2500HD rear end sag?

Please let me know how you like the 5th airborne when you get it in. Thinking about one myself.
I'm at about 30 psi on my bags. May try just a little bit lower. At 25 it was still a little soft feeling. 30psi feels solid.
I have a 38' double slide Dune Chaser. One of the water tanks is to the rear of the axles. Tows much better with full water on mine.

RE: HELP, Smelly Bathroom

Had a similar issue with my trailer. I bought it used. It had a Lower end Thetford plastic toilet. The bottom of the toilet is funnel shaped and extends to the seat area on the inside. Cant see it when the toilet is mounted. The previous owner must have overfilled or some how splattered ummm you know what up the sides of the toilet. When I bought it there was no smell. About the second time I used it if started to smell. Probably from water splashing around when flushing., which activated the old waste. I flushed till I was blue in the face, still smelled... Checked vent hoses, pulled the underbelly off, banged on the tank., flushed some more, no help.
Finally decided to pull the toilet, very easy, 2 bolts and a water line. Found my problem immedaitly when I fliped the toilet over :S
I am happy to report I now have a new porcelin pooper with a straight drop tube to the floor flange.
Might want to check there if all else fails.

RE: Tires and Wheels

If you keep your speeds and weight down, you should be able to get a year or 2.
My way of looking at it is: the tires on the trailer are new. You will get more money for them in "new" condition (Craigslist or the like). I went with the maxxis load E 15" tire on mine to get bye until I can come up with a set of 16's. You said in your post 2 major trips... I would not want to be worrying about tires. I would run the maxxis load E at a minimum. Happy Camping and congrats on the new rig!!!
Might be able to get the tire shop to give you credit for the tires on the rig since there new?

RE: The Value of a Pre-Trip Inspection

Got my set today, thanks for the heads up on this!! Also picked up a kit for a friend. He has the 35" kit with 8k axles.
I could only laugh when I opened the box. They are half again as big as the 6k kit. Looks like they would be right at home on a semi

RE: Chucking and bucking makes bad trailer trucking!

I would equa-flex the camper and put airbags on truck. Although looking at your pictures you may not have enough weight in the box of your truck, you may be banging on the overload springs.
"you may be banging on the overload springs"
I have air bags on my truck and have to be mindfull where I set them. Just bought a big fiver so that will no longer be an issue:E
If you look at your rear spring pack you will see the diffrence in thickness between the top springs and the MUCH thicker bottom overload spring.
If loaded down just right, or just wrong as can be the case, the rear overload pad will be touching the spring pack. The front pad will have just a little bit of clearence.
The end result is any little road imperfection causes the spring pack to contact the overload and will cause a bucking motion, at just the wrong weight.
You can do 2 things, put more weight in the front so your already on the overload pad, or install air bags to raise the suspension to keep you out of that area.
Both very cheap to free, I would try those first :B
Also, if memory serves me correct, the GM's are rear high to begin with. A 1 or 2" longer rear shackle should lower the rear thus leveling the ride, give you a little more bed clearence and help bring the nose of the fiver down a little. Just thinking outloud... dont know if that is a good option or not but seems like it would work.
