RE: Oh man, it got me too!!

Total quote including their "46 point" appliance/equipment inspection was right at $2,850.
The major work is to open up the right side of the cabover nose and repair any rot damage, replace the inside panel and repair the filon on the outside. In addition was a repair of the floor of the compartment near the generator and replace the door seal, complete roof reseal, and repair the 1/2 doller size hole in the filon on the nose where some jerk backed into it with a pipe rack on a van 2 weeks after I bought the camper.

RE: Oh man, it got me too!!

Well, I just got the estimate for repairs. It is about 1/3 of what I expected. Hopefully, it stays in that range.
Moral for all the newbees. GET THE ROOF RESEALED EVERY YEAR.

RE: What's on your pick-up when the campers not?

I have the Tuff Tonno by Extang, but I modified one front rail end cap so that I can slide the cover in and out of the front rail and remove it completely when using the camper. The rear rail is not screwed, so it is can be removed easily The side and front rails remain on at all times.

RE: Oh man, it got me too!!

Thanks Chris, I have not had good luck with Camper's world repairs, although I have never been to that one. I am going to this particular delaer on Lance's recommendation. Although I doubt insurance will cover any of the repair, I plan to ask him if the quote is reasonable.
We plan to doodle around the "Old City" a while before heading home.

RE: Oh man, it got me too!!

Chris, no I have no numbers yet. We take it to the dealer in St Augustine Saturday, about 4 1/2 hour drive. I plan to have them go over it with a fine tooth comb. I agree, while it's in, get it all. Then I want to make sure they seal it like it should be. There never was enough sealer on the roof seam that leaked, especially considering the fact it dams water there.
The dealer recommended I file an insurance claim. I doubt they are going to find anything that will be covered, but the adjuster is going to the dealer and check it out.
We just finished removing everthing from the camper that wasn't attached. Phew a lot of stuff stuck in all those holes.
On the subject of improved contruction of boats lately, have you priced one? Yes they're a lot better but, the cost has gone out of sight.

RE: Oh man, it got me too!!

Thanks for the input. I have the tools and believe I have the experience to do the work myself, however I do not wish to invest the time. I already have more projects than can accomplish in the forseeable future. I am hoping it can be back in service the first of December as we have plans to use it then.
While it's in the shop, I am going to have them go over it with a fine tooth comb. I know it's going to cost a bundle, but that's what I get for being asleep at the wheel.
St Augustine is about 4 hours from here. We'll leave early Saturday morning, drop off the camper, then spend the rest of the day being tourists. So the distance isn't really an issue.

No salt Gary. I thought I had, but apparently not good enough. I had done some touch ups, but again, apparently not enough.
You can bet I will have an annual comprehensive check in the future.

Oh man, it got me too!!

While preparing for a trip to Ohio a couple weeks ago, I noted that the vinyl was lifting up in the compartment in the wing just in front of the generator of my Lance 1121. Sure enough, the chipboard floor underneath was squishy. Water damage. *&)^$
Well, if that wasn't bad enough, while laying up in the bed on the trip I noticed a little wrinkle in the ceiling at the edge of the wall. Sure enough, soft. So was the wall just under this area. There is also a bulge pushing the filon out in the same location. This is right underneath where the right front corner of the aluminum roof meets the front filon. I had noted that this area appears poorly designed and held water. I had previously touched up the sealant some in that corner. (I don't think there was ever enough sealant in the first place).
I had planned to have the roof completely resealed, but too late.:M
I am heading over to the closest dealer Lance recommended (St Augustine, FL) for repair estimate and repair.
I guess, I will be doing my share to put money into the economy.:S
Any of you new people looking into campers. CHECK THE ROOF often, it isn't if it will leak, but when. Oh, and don't forget the wings.

RE: TC Hauler Issue

OK, the diagnosis according to the wizards at the dealer is that it was infact the cam position sensor gave out an odd signal causing the computer to cut back the power.
I bought a spare to keep in the glove box.

RE: TC Hauler Issue

My sensor was replaced within the last year or so. I don't put a lot of miles on it, but that may be the issue.
NRA, my tach did not zero out. It would only show up to about 2300-2500 rpm max in any gear, but that sounds about right based on how it was running. Also, my engine did not die, nor give any indication of problems until I started to accelerate away from the wreck jam, and it was just flogging along.
Matthew, A "limp home" mode sounds exactly how it was acting.
I think I will buy one to take on next weeks' trip just to be sure.
As for codes, the dealer said that if the Check Engine light did not come on, there is not likely a code recorded. The local dealer is right across the street from my office, I'll take it and have them look for codes anyway.

TC Hauler Issue

Although this is actually a question about my Ford truck, it happened hauling my TC. 1997 Ford F 350 Turbo Diesel
Over Labor Day weekend we were heading north out of Mobile AL on I-65 and were backed up in drizzling rain for wreck traffic. We never really stopped for long, but mostly inch along, stop a little, etc etc. Probably did this for 20 to 30 minutes. No running issues in the stop and go and no indication of overheat, missing, etc. However, when we started to go after passing the wreck, the engine would just not turn up. I could barely get up to 40 or 45 mph with my foot on the floor. It acted like the turbo had been removed.
We got off the interstate and after determining we could not make it to the local Ford dealer before 5 on Friday afternoon, I decided to try stoping, turn the key off, let it sit and see what happened. You know, like a computer, if in doubt, turn it off. Sure enough, we cranked up again after about a 5 minute rest and it ran great for the rest of the trip.
When I got home I asked the local Ford dealer if they had any idea what happened, basically - no.
Do any of you diesel experts have any idea what would cause this situation?
I am off to Dayton, OH next week,, with camper and trailer and really don't want it happening in the foot hills.

RE: Boondocking at Airventure in Oshkosh

Hogtied, if I remember correctly, the 2000 was $899. A friend who flew down with me bought one while there. We did not need it at the show, and didn't really want to haul it back in the Cessna, so they shipped it home for him no charge.

If you're lucky, the Honda generator distributors will be there as they were at Sun N Fun with real good deals on Honda generators. Problem solved.

RE: Drain Pipe parts availability

We have a Lowe's here, and I have not checked there yet. I checked 2 R/V parts shops, a hardware store and a plumbing supply store. I'll check on the way home and see. The hardware store had some 1 1/4 items for mobile homes, but not what I needed.
Thanks,
