RE: Ohio Rallies for 2010

As a newer member sort of, I felt the need to post.... We have come to only a handful of events. Not due to people or conflicts, but due to money, our jobs (as teachers we often have weekend work that can't be done elsewhere), our kids' activities, church and family obligations and so forth. Having been on many organizations, I know it is often the work of few when the jobs are many. So, maybe the problem here is calling each camping excursion a "rally"? I know I always check out where you folks are going. Many times, like Labor Day, it is just too far for us to go on a weekend. As for hosting.....since I am never guaranteed what might be going on with my kids, I don't feel I can, at this time. Later, sure. Maybe one solution would be for the "host" to specifically ask someone to take over one activity, one meal, etc. I also know that sometimes it is easier to just do the job myself. Larry, you mention the loss of several members but since I still don't connect names with faces with rv names, I'm not sure the reason they are gone. Maybe send me a pm so I have a better understanding? Money? I guess I am in the hole! We did participate in the auction in Hocking Hills, but I don't remember donating money. Although I don't make it to the Christmas party, maybe some could be used each year for that. Bottom line here is that it makes me sad to think that some people are unhappy in "the family". Jana

RE: Mohican Rally August 6, 7 & 8, 2010

We got in today and set up. Left late this afternoon so my son can do his project at the State Fair Friday morning. We are hoping to be back by 8 Friday evening. We definitely will be ready for a beverage by then! If there is a group fire somewhere, let us know! Jana - site 28

Think I finally decided what to bring....we won't be there for dinner Fri., so Sat. evening, I will bring chili, white rice - hubby likes his chili over white rice, shredded cheese and sour cream, and some kind of dessert. Tums? :) Sunday morning, I will bring french toast and orange juice. Just checked the weather and it is supposed to be sunny and 85 on Sat!

RE: Brand new campers needing ideas for needed items

If possible, camp in your backyard or someplace very close first. We do this every year because we forget things every year. Then keep that list going. It is very helpful because once you get to where you are going you won't remember. Fuses are the one thing we seem to go through. Then you will need a flashlight to see to put them in. A lantern won't do. And like the other poster said, go minimum. We also have tons of stuff that we never use but thought we had to have. I like to have dual stuff to save me having to pack the basics. Yard sales are great for kitchen items, and buy yourself new towels for home and take the old ones! An entryway rug - one that can be washed. A broom/dustpan - even a small handheld kind. 2 months is a long time with no clean-up. Do you have pets and carpet? If so, pet stain cleaner. One of ours got sick and all I had was dish soap/shower gel. By the time I got home, stain was set and won't come out. Keep a general list going at your house - things that you or your kids can't live without - or think they can't live without. Because I don't want to spend all my time cooking/cleaning up, I make up food ahead of time for the longer trips and freeze it. We have a freezer, but if you don't, those can be used for the first few days in your cooler. You will get tired of hamburgers/hot dogs! Find some fun pie iron recipes. Kids think it is fun to cook and you don't have to do all the work! I think I've written enough :) My hubby says no one reads long posts..... Jana

RE: Mohican Rally August 6, 7 & 8, 2010

Hi all....found out a couple weeks ago that my son's 4-H project was picked to go to state. Judging is Fri. We are coming and setting up on Thurs. and maybe staying to play a bit, but not staying Thurs night. Not sure what time we will get back on Fri., so don't want to promise food if we aren't there. Will bring something if we are. Sat. I am in for the chili cook-off. Lots of hot chillis in the garden this year! :) WMD are being packed even as we speak! ARRG....

RE: Our Loppy is at peace.....

Oh Cat...my life has not been my own the last 8 weeks. My mom has had some serious health issues that we are still dealing with. I just wanted you to know that you are in our prayers...and more importantly, that we were given 3-6 months for Maicey without chemo, and she lived for an additional 16 months. Remember that they are just numbers.....

RE: Our Loppy is at peace.....

Remember, that as long as you think of him as dying, then he is. With Maicey, when she was given the diagnosis of 3-6 months, I literally cried daily and watched for those signs of death. Once we passed those time constraints, I was able to see her and love her and enjoy her for the 16 months that she lived! I hope that Loppy enjoys many months yet to come!

RE: Hershey My Chocolate Lab

My Maicey had hemangiosarcoma. It was accidentally discovered when she had bloat. (stomach torsion, or when the stomach flips) I was absolutely devastated as we had survived the bloat when many do not. She was given 3 months without chemo and 6 months with. I went to see the oncologist anyway, and I will be forever grateful for her truthfulness. I was sobbing and she could have taken my retirement, I didn't care. She was honest and told me the results would not change. However, that 3 months lasted for nearly 17 months. We did nothing different. I think maybe some pain meds occasionally. And she ended up dying on her own. No decisions to be made. What I am saying here is, don't do what I did and cry daily thinking is this the day she will die? I wasted 2 months with that. Like someone else said, we are never promised tomorrow. Enjoy Hershey everyday and know that when that time comes, whether it is a decision you have to make or one that Hershey decides, we will be here for you. Jana

RE: Sadness

I have been too busy of late to post often but will read. Sometimes I read the ones that mention the Rainbow Bridge and sometimes I know I can't right then but will go back. I can still tear up over the ones that we lost 5 and 6 years ago. I think that is what has been so important with this forum...the ability to drift in and out, to comment when we can and support each other in times of pain. I think it is because we "know".
