Sad situation...sounds as if he couldn't bear to be the one to give the go ahead and be responsible for an animal to be euthanized, but at the same time, wouldn't do adequate care either...

You know, whether the story is "real" or only real in the imagination of an author, I still enjoy it just as much and wish I had the talent to write. I envision stories in my head, but never put them on paper. The author was able to put a picture in my mind, and isn't that the dream of any author, whether the story is "real" according to SNOPES or not?

I haven't done this, but someone suggested on this forum to put ice cubes down the toilet prior to leaving and before dumping. Drive around and let the ice cubes slosh around and they will help dislodge "stuff".

My husband used to have a husky mix that would chase rocks. He would throw them over the hillside and she would find just that same rock! I made him mark one of them to be sure. It was a grassy, hilly area and I could never believe that she could go and find those little rocks! With the "girls" we have now, we just find sticks and so forth in the house that they like to bring in!

I never feed our dogs or allow water the day of travel. Just feel safer not to. And due to a problem with bloat with our other
GSD, I don't feed or water for about the first hour home either. We did that once as soon as we came home and within an hour we were rushing her to an emergency vet clinic.
Glad Mama is doing better.

Thanks again for a great time! Load number 3 of laundry in....how did everything get so wet??!!! Ohhhhhh...perhaps that was in part when son number one decided to flip the canoe with me in it......did anyone else flip their canoe??? My mom asked me and I really didn't know....
What are the dates for next year? We'd love to come again...

We have a will, with the name of a friend who knows how we feel about our dogs and will ensure that they are taken care of. My suggestion is to find a friend who will be willing to do such a thing and add them to your will. It CAN'T cost $2500 to change a will. You can also add money to help with the upkeep also. My friend is rich enough that I don't have to do that, but if she moves away, one of my life insurance policies will list my pets for the care and upkeep until the time that an appropriate home can be found.
I call it TRUST. I am sorry that you don't feel you can trust your children and their spouses to do what you would wish.
I DO think you are wise to be thinking ahead. You DO need to make those plans...just like I made the plans ahead of time for my dog to be cremated when she was diagnosed with cancer. I like the thought of the ICE information in wallet or at least with your official papers - living will, etc.

Here is what we are bringing....
Fri. - baked beans and cookies
Sat. - Penne Alfredo, cake
Sun. - cooked ground sausage, OJ, banana bread
We most likely won't be there on Thurs. We now have a swim banquet on Thurs. We may be coming over to set up and then driving home. Need to check on the distance. Our WMD are also packed and looking forward to canoeing!

We ran into this also. We knew that it was a no dog camping area, but felt that just meant we couldn't camp there. I never considered that we weren't even allowed to WALK our dogs in that area. We were stopped by a ranger and asked to only walk our dogs in the dog camping area. This was several years ago when we first started camping. We were young and naive.....I'm curious why there are such areas.....allergies? fear of pets? just no noise?
