RE: Full Timing and Inflation

Do you worry about Inflation destroying your retirement? I would like to retire in 10 years and wonder with the current rate of Government spending if my retirement will be worth anything. I work with a retired person who supplements his retirement with a part time job to help pay for insurance. I see more and more people of retirement age returning back to part time work to make ends meet. Colliehauler; If you plan on retiring in 10 years, make that one of your top priority goals. You can be making investments between now and then that will meet or beat inflation. I have been planning for retirement since I turned 16 years old, and have really been cranking up investments for the last 10 years. Some of the things I have done is cut expenses everywhere possible and invest the saved income. I have also worked a second job, part-time weekend jobs, and has many overtime hours as I can get and invested all of that money as well. Take advantage of pretax retirement accounts that you are elligible for with some of them possibly being a 401(k), 403(b), 457, and IRAs. The max amount of these 4XXX accounts are $16,500 and IRAs are $5000 per year and when you turn 50, you can add $5000 extra per year to the 4XXX accounts and you can add $1,000 extra per year to the IRA account. You can even open an IRA in both you and your wife's name to double the max amount you can save. Once you are retired, you will find that RV living is much less expensive than living in a stick & brick home. All of your expenses will be much less except possibly medical care. For that one you will need to find some kind of health insurance and to get in as good of shape as possible to prevent many health problems. While you are still working, you can start to save for your RV now. You may want to look into acquiring some different campground memberships to help defray camping costs when retired. Once you have your RV, you can install solar panels to help you to be able to boondock (if needed or wanted) so you don't have to spend every night in a camground. When you invest your money, I highly recommend dividend paying exchanged traded funds (ETFs) and closed-end funds (CEFs) so that you can acquire both growth of your money as well as montly income. It is good to be concerned enough about inflation to get you to make smart decisions now while you still have 10 years to work and prepare for retirement. Once you are retired and on a set income, about the only thing you could do at that point would be to get a workkamp job for pay or for free camping space. BUT, don't be so worried about inflation that you don't take advantage of the time you have now to get as prepared as possible for the inevitable. Sergeant Major

RE: Winterizing RV, Individual or Service Company

Just a heads up, starting and IDLING a diesel is NOT good! No matter how long you run it, it's worse than not starting at all. That said, if you can take it for a 20 mile drive, then that's OK. The Generator should be run for 1-2 Hrs. WITH a load. Thanks for the tip. We took it for a long drive in April and that was right after a full service on the coach. I have been told by several RVers to run both engines for about 45 minutes to 1 hour every 1 to 3 months to keep the cylinders and crankshafts lubricated. We will be taking it back out again in the Spring for some camping trips. Thanks for the info on putting a load on both engines. Try contacting TNT RV Service , TX 618-664-4868 and explain your problem to them, as they are only 10 miles away. Or TX 618-669-2781 This is a camp ground, but the might know of a person who would do the winterizing. Thanks for the names and phone numbers. I will be calling TNT RV Service today. This was the exact information I was looking for; an RV Service Center that is close to where the RV is garaged. WOW, this is what makes this board so useful to use. Thanks to both of you for your helpful advice!!!

Winterizing RV, Individual or Service Company

I have my RV in storage in Pocahontas, Illinois at this time. It has access to water and 15 amp electric. My dad is a 75 year old (semi-retired) truck driver. He starts my rig and jenny once every month and runs the engines for a good 45 minutes. I am looking for an individual or an RV service company that can winterize my RV at its current location (if possible). I did not want to fly round-trip across country to go and do it at this time and my dad would rather have someone with more experience with RVs do the winterization. The RV is a Newmar Essex 4503 with a 500 hp diesel engine. He could drive it to a service center, but it would better if I can find someone that can simply winterize it at its present location in Bond County, Pocahontas, IL; the rig stored only a couple of miles away from I-70. :S
