RE: Springfield IL campgrounds

Thanks everyone. I had read the reviews for the KOA and they had the same issues with narrow roads. I also read about Double J and the issues some have had with their rules. I`m kinda leaning toward Double J. Thanks again.

RE: They want $5K - FINAL REPORT

That repair could have been done without replacing some of those parts.... HUH???? Your name suggests you were/are an engineer of some sort. Enlighten me on which parts could have been done without???? Personally I may have done more based on the mileage(which I dont know or remember) and the simple fact that the differential is already disassembled. Shade tree mechanics will try to get by without buying a new crush sleeve, etc. I have seen flat rate dealerships repair a leaky pinion seal by marking the pinion nut, and pinion as to where the nut was originally torqued. After the seal is replaced and the yoke is put back into position, they replace the nut, and then give it a 1/16th of a turn. By doing this, they retain the preload on the bearings. Is it fixed by this method? Yes. Will it last? Probably. Does the tech have any idea as to what his "new" pinion bearing preload value is? No. Is it fixed according to proper axle setup guidelines? NO. FWIW, crush sleeves are a non-reusable item. Well I can tell you that Dana doesn`t expect you to replace the crush sleeve if you are just replacing the pinion seal. And I`ve replaced many seals this way and have never had one come back for a bearing failure. and we see all the trucks as we did the maint. done properly it is a proper repair. and they do have a spec on TRT (total rotating torque) so you know if you have the pinion nut torqued properly.

RE: Golf Cart

I was in a campground a few years ago and there was a guy with a TT with an extended deck off the rear of the trailer. on the deck he had a golf cart! he was pulling this with a diesel E250. the deck was part of the frame. now, I`ve never weighed a golf cart, but I imagine they are quite heavy. I`m sure he had to have put all his "stuff" up front to keep the TW in check.

Springfield IL campgrounds

Hello everyone! well we are looking for a nice campground in Springfield for the July 4th weekend. I`ve found a few, but not sure if they are good or not. I checked RV parkreviews and one place had some very bad reviews! a couple others were just OK. Anyone know of a nice campground within 30min. of the Springfield area? Thanks in advance!

RE: They want $5K - FINAL REPORT

The only thing I would`ve done different was insatll both pinion bearings w/races. other than that sounds like a good deal. I`ll bet your glad you asked now huh?!

RE: New Gasser HD trucks-Horsepower Wars are On! (soon)

I`m only a Supercharger away from the new HP/TQ that the new gassers will have. I also think that the Diesels have done all they can without major changes to trucks. back in the 70`s the OTR trucks didn`t have anywhere near the numbers that todays diesels are making. were talking over 300hp and over 600lbft of torque!!! in a little 2500 truck!

RE: "Half Ton Towable"-They Are Serious?

I spend too much time and money on dealer lots and have never seen one of these 3/4 ton F-150's. They're not uncommon, but hard to spot: older ones had a little "7700" (the GVWR) under the "F-150" on the tailgate badges. The easiest way is to look at the wheels: light-duty 150's have five lugs, the heavy-halfs have seven. Yep, my neighbor has one. the only thing I don`t like is the semi floating axle in the rear. On a side note. I forget the year, but around 97 or 98 the F250 used the same suspension as the F150 "7700"

RE: Cash For Clunkers top 20

The 1 thing that list does show is how popular the Ford brand is! F150 and Explorer seem to be the most traded also means that those were the most bought 10 years ago. However, I would harly call those clunkers!! unless they were unmaintained junkers. right now I`m in the market for a new SUV to replace the DW`s 97 minivan that has 185k miles and gets 23mpg on the hwy. we are looking at either the Chrysler Aspen or the Jeep Commander with the Hemi. I`ll do all I can to bring down the mpg saved during clunkers. LOL!

RE: Survey: New Rear Coil Spring 1/2 T Ram Owners: Towing

I`m a Ford and A Dodge Guy, but that "info-mercial" is very mis-leading and doesn`t help anyone out! Who here thinks that the Ford with it`s 2 leafs and 1 overload leaf is going to support any sizeable load?

RE: Lexan or plexiglass on my screen door

So I take it the best way to attach it is to screw it to the frame? I`ve been wanting to do this for awhile, but I want to make it easily removeable so I can remove/insatll it a couple of times in a weekend. you know windows open or closed.

RE: Badlands/Mt Rushmore

Gotta stay at Horse Thief Campground just outside of Hillcity. located just off of Needles HWY. beautiful views of the surrounding hills. excellent place!

RE: They want $5K

Very good, everything you mention is exactly what you should be doing. I agree the rear will most likely be OK for at least a few more trips. so don`t worry about your 1 last trip. Keep us posted on the outcome!

RE: A message from Mike Schneider, CEO, Affinity

Mike, About two months ago I renewed my subscription to Trailer Life. In the past month, weeks after my check was cashed, I have received three more identical renewal letters. Someone, somewhere, in some capacity, is failing to purge names from the mailing lists. This is one of my gripes! my subscription to TL is due in Mar. I`ve been getting renewal notices (Your subscription is about to expire) for the last year, approx. 4 notices. I really wish they would stop crying wolf. I may ignore the notice one to many times and not renew. I not it`s trivial, but it`s a small request that can be taken care of (fixed). Thanks again for everything and all the info. I`ve learned and given out.

RE: They want $5K

Replacing the carrier bearings and pinion bearings isn`t all that expensive! and it`s very rare that the ring and pinion and carrier will need to be replaced also. the bill shouldn`t be any more than $700 +/- $100. Take it to the Chevy dealer they will probably be the better bet for a good repair than someplace that doesn`t do them as much. ask the service writer if they have a tech that does them regularly.

It`s a thing for one of those other things that you will never use! See I have the same one! http://snjzaw.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pWu-Jj3sSA18aPfo_NEPyp2EGEk9c8yHdBJnYHhv0iJ295bDnxKdzJHDfWujYAqRrZdWMk0TtXw9w1oM27Tz4utsCFTUopjLC/Unknown_001RS.jpg

RE: Be careful with golf carts in campgrounds

Same goes for being around a campfire, around the park pool/beach, hiking trails and even driving to the campground for that matter!

RE: Reese Dual Cam arm bent again!!!

Anyone else notice that it looks as though the WD bar is too wide for the cam arm? either way you need to be watching the bars as someone else turns the truck with the trailer attached. You`ll find it, just keep an eye open. Good luck!

RE: My new boat car that I pull COOOOOOL

First anphibious car I've even seen that can actually get up on plane! All the ones I've seen can only wallow along at a few knots. Don't understand why all the "kids" think that everything posted to YouTube need an obnoxious hiphop background track (Note I didn't use the term "music". Thumping and talking doesn't fit the definition). :R Would the "old" people rather view the video with a waltz going in the background? :S music is music. people need to realize that there are other people out there than just them. if they don`t like the music then copy the vid and put in a different sound track! sheesh!
