rv park recommendation

My wife and I are having some dental work done in Progresso and are new to the area. Can someone recommend an rv park for a three or four day stay?

clearchoice dental

I just had the "4 on 4" procedure at ClearChoice Dental. It was either that or dentures on the top - I am really happy with the results, but the procedure is very expensive. I may need a similar procedure on the lower at some point in the future. I understand that dental procedures across the border are a lot less expensive - does anyone have experience with dental implant surgery in Mexico?

RE: Mexican dental service - where?

I was quoted a price of $22K for a procedure that Clear Choice Dental calls the "4 in one" which is 4 implants that support a full set of teeth for the upper jaw. Has anyone had a similar procedure south of the border? What was the cost and results? I need some new teeth, but $22K is a bit expensive for me.

RE: South Padre Beach camping

The problem with beach camping is - the firmness of the sand is unpredictable. What may be good today might not be in a month or two. I usually go to north Padre and look for a way on to the beach where the sand is packed.

water filter

I have a Culligan water filter to clean the water going into the fifth wheel. I have seen some rigs that use two filters inline. Does that do a better job than one or does it depend on the type of filter you are using?

RE: Who's driven the Alcan Hwy to Alaska?

I just came back from there in my TC. It was a great trip and would do it again in a minute. There will be some rough roads, so go slow and enjoy the trip. The only complaint we had was some of the commercial campgrounds we stayed at ( to dump and refill our water tanks ) had very bad water. It was as brown as could be and no amount of filtering through the Brita would clear it up. We like to boondock for a few days at time, but at times we could not get good drinking water.

RE: Replacement refrigerator

I did that a few years ago. When travelling, we just kept the door shut and the fridge stayed cold for many hours.
That won't work for dry camping, however.\

fridge fins

Lately the fins on my Dometic fridge have been icing over after several days. It is a real pain to defrost that often, so is there something I can do to keep the fins ice free?
Thanks, Gerald

RE: Going to the Sun Road in Truck Camper

I was there in August and they would not let me take my TC on the road past a certain point. Too tall and too wide for safety.

trip report

I just got back (Austin, Tx) from a 4 month, 14,600 mile trip with my Dodge CTD and Lance 1130. We went all over Alaska, Canada, all the western states, Nebraska, and South Dakota. The Dodge performed flawlessly - what a great truck! The Lance had one small easily repaired problem, but it too was great. The rig was perfect for this trip. We were able to stay anywhere we wanted and travel any road. Dry camping with this rig was really easy and enabled us to enjoy the wilds of Canada and Alaska as well as in the western US. If you have not been to British Columbia, the Yukon, and Alaska, you need to go - it is a fantastic trip.

RE: Cell Phone Booster for Home

I bought a cell phone booster from Wilson Electronics. If I have one bar on the phone, w/o the booster, it will go to 4 or 5 bars with it. I use it in my car and in my rv. You can get more info by doing a search for Wilson Electronics. It sounds like it might work well for you.

RE: Planning a trip to Alaska next year

We are on our way back to Texas from 2 months in Alaska. We are in a Lance truck camper. I had a pop-up years ago and had some problems with mosquitos getting inside while camping near the beach. The mosquitos in AK are really bad in places. In one cg north of Anchorage, they were getting inside the camper. I had to go outside and seal off all the vents and any other openings in the camper. Even with repellent sprayed all over, they were still a major nuisance. They weren't bad everywhere, that depends on where you are, and perhaps the time of year. AK is beautiful as is BC and the Yukon.

RE: HOW LONG TO DO THE CASSIAR AND SEE EVERYTHING

We just returned from the Cassiar. It is a beautiful drive, and for the most part, a good road.
The northern section is pretty rough. We were in no hurry; driving slowly and stopping often. We spent 5 days, but it could be done in fewer or more depending on how you want to do it.

RE: Exhasut Brake To be or not to be

I had one added to my dodge ctd and it was the best money I have spent. It would buy a lot of brake work, but coming down the mountains in the west it adds safety, and confidence. Descending a 6% grade for several miles with 6 or 8 tons of trailer pushing you along with nothing but mechanical brakes is "white knuckle driving". I would do it again in a heartbeat.
