RE: Class A Motorhome Related Tips

I hadn't noticed either! Shows how observant I am. I think they're kinda cool. Jan

RE: RV Storage in Arlington Texas

Before we built our own RV port, we used Kennedy RV & Boat Storage on S. Main in Mansfield. Great people, security gate entrance, wonderful paved drives, and covered storage (electricity extra). We were paying $90 at the time with electricity but I'm sure they've gone up since then. Best one I know about in our area. Good luck, Jan

RE: Thanksgiving dinner

This is my time of year! Favorite holiday by far. Smoked turkey, Ham, Stuffing, Turkey Gravy, Ambrosia, Green Bean Casserole, Candied Carrots, Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Marshmallow topping (or my grandkids will kill me!), Homemade Yeast Rolls, Appetizer Tray, Pumpkin Pie w/fresh whipped cream, Pecan Pie, and probably some kind of cake cause the grandkids aren't fond of pie! Oh, and anything else the relatives want to bring. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

RE: Do new homebuyer tax credits apply to RV purchases?

RE: Our VACATION FROM HE** !!! UPDATE W/PICS PG. 2 & 3 10/28

If it gives you any comfort at all, we have ALL been there at one time or another. My DH and I always refer to ourselves as the cartoon characters that exist for the amusement of all our fellow rv'ers! At least you can keep it in perspective and laugh about it. Best of luck on your next trip! Jan

RE: memphis or nashville?

We visited both cities last July and totally agree that Nashville would be better. Also, it might be worth your while to go to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area. LOTS to do with families. We spent 5 days there on our trip and wished a hundred times we had the grandkids with us. Plus you're right by Smokey Mountain National Park which is a must see for families. We thoroughly enjoyed black bear watching (are black bears "awake" by March? lol). Good luck and enjoy your trip. Jan

RE: Re-Assurance Needed

After having a fiver for 10 years we went to a 32' MH five years ago. We have thoroughly enjoyed the MH experience--love the view, the ease of set-up, the convenience while traveling (we have had some really nice lunches in rest areas). We do think our fifth wheel had more usable living space, but we were a family of 5 then and now it's just the two of us. However, in those 10 years, I don't think we ever had a problem with the fiver or the tow truck other than routine maintenance. It cost $50 bucks for an oil change on our tow truck--it now costs $200 for an oil change on the MH (diesel). Just had the fuel lift pump go out on the MH-$749. Tires are $3-4 hundred dollars each! Dash air went out--$1200. Takes a little more fuel to run the MH. It is expensive and we didn't stop to consider the extra cost of maintenance when we made the switch. That all said...we still are glad we have the MH although we now think we should have bought a 36'. Although the 32' is more than sufficient for us, when the grandkids go it would be nice to have a few more feet. But we don't need the extra few feet enough to suffer the additional cost of an upgrade. Best of luck in whatever decision you make. Jan

RE: HWH Jacks Order

Great post aspete. I totally agree. Our contact with HWH has never been anything but stellar. I'm sorry to hear they're struggling to stay above water in this economy. We'd be in deep stuff if they shut their doors. Best wishes to them. Jan

RE: Fulltiming & collecting unemployment

So if you wanna come after me - go ahead! J.P. Well, since I have your permission...I got to say that I'd prefer my tax dollars go to someone who is diligently looking for work but needs a little assistance during the process. I'm just saying. That said...unfortunately you (they) would only be one of most that currently abuse the system at a monstrous cost to law-abiding, hardworking, tax-paying citizens. So sorry...I couldn't help the rant.

RE: We survived!

It's like having a baby. Pretty soon your husband will forget the work and just remember all the fun he had and he'll want to go at it again! Glad you had a great time. Jan

RE: coach batterys have clean up

I had that problem. I switched to AGM's and problem solved. Same here. Best decision we ever made.

RE: Who is your insurance carrier?

Had to drop Progressive this year. They were WAY more than others. We ended up going with Good Sam's (GMAC). Saved us 600 a year. All our other insurance we moved to AARP - The Hartford. Nobody could touch their rates for auto/home. We are going to check with them next year on our MH coverage. Good luck in your decision. (P.S. We never had a claim with Progressive--they were just high.)

RE: Journey 36L AC Problems!!!!!! HELP!!!!

I hope somebody comes along and gives you some advice. We thought our basement A/C lagged some this summer in the Texas heat. A couple of times we had no protection from the sun--102 degrees outside and close to 90 inside. We haven't noticed a problem in the past so we had our rv tech clean the coil and do some maintenance. We haven't had it back out in that kind of heat to find out if it did any good. Good luck and I'll be watching your thread. Jan

RE: Dinette Removal

We took out one booth bench and the enormous booth table. Left the front facing booth bench and added a small drop down table and a euro recliner in place of the booth table and the other booth bench. This is working great for the two of us. Adds another reclining seat so we don't fight over who gets to recline on the sofa. Also, taking out the enormous booth table gives us a feeling of much more space in the living quarters of our MH. Also, keeping one booth bench still gives us some storage but, more importantly, is where our grandchildren get buckled in when they travel with us. We're saving the original booth table and bench in case we ever trade in we can put it back in its original position. Jan

Almost a Problem Free Trip!

My DH and I are on a 2 1/2 week RV trip celebrating the sale of my child care center in May. First trip in 15 years I haven't had to call back to the business 2 or 3 times a day while gone. Really nice. MH has been almost problem free. Need some help on one and only problem. Our water heater is not igniting on gas. It tries three times (we can hear it) and then goes to the failed position. Hasn't been too much of a problem since it's working great on electric. One night, however, I forgot to turn on water heater so the next morning I hit gas start for a quicker heating of the water. It wouldn't ignite. So...what I'm saying is...the water was not already hot from electric heat. My DH "visually inspected" the heater and doesn't see anything evident, but I told him I'm pretty sure we need to take something off and clean. Can y'all tell us exactly what to check before we start worrying about a blown circuit board? We already had to have that replaced once right after we bought the MH new 5 years ago. Thanks! Jan

RE: Extended vacation loop from Ok. to Ca., Wyoming and Home

Ron, I may not be sure about this...but I think Wal-Mart's are just for stopping over to catch a few zzz's and moving on early the next morning. And I'm afraid more Wal-Marts (especially urban) are putting an end to their welcome mat for RV's (city regulations, etc). Someone might come along and correct me on this. Have a great time on your trip! I retired in May but my DH is going to work about a year longer. Can't wait til we're both free and can hit the road. Good luck. Jan

RE: Holy *%$#!! My Awning Unravelled At Speed! What the....!?

Does anyone know if electric awnings are as apt to do this? Ours has an awning "cover" that always made me think we weren't in danger of having this happen. But am I wrong? Thanks, Jan

RE: Chassis Length--Newbie Question

Are we designing coaches here? Do you have real problem? Buy a fifth wheel and you can have a whole new set of questions. If you aren't interested in a post, just move on. We all have the right to post anything of interest to us. JMHO Jan

RE: A/C question

I can tell you we spent last weekend in 105 degree Texas heat in an RV spot with absolutely no protection from the sun. We were doing good to keep it around 85 inside in the middle of the afternoon. As you can see, we have a Winnebago basement air. Jan
