RE: Fulltiming Income vs expense help for a Soon-To-be

Hi Marge,
Welcome. Have you noticed that there are as many opinions as there are posts? You are getting lots to digest and think about. I am a solo fulltimer, in a '02 diesel class a.
Do you have any RV experience? Not that it is necessary, just curious. How close to buying a RV are you? Before you buy any rig, have it thoroughly checked out by an independent inspector.
Will you have health coverage? If not, that will be a big expense. Don't wait until the last minute to get health insurance.
When you get your rv, make sure you get fulltimer insurance - be specific with your agent about being a fulltimer.
I have a monthly pension, health coverage/prescript/dental - my expnses are: rv/car insurance, cell/internet, sat tv, mail forwarding service - those are constant. My variable expenses; campground, fuel, repairs/service, food, entertainment - those I have some control - for example= monthly stays are generally less than daily or weekly, eat in more instead of dining out, stay put - less fuel. You get the idea, and all these variables make everyone's budget so different.
I spent the summer of '08 in your awesome state!!!! I hope to get back there again. If I can be of any help, pm me with questions. I wish you the best, Kathy

RE: Thanks for the h2o hose caddy idea-I'm passing it on

OP here. The wreath container I am using is hard side plastic.
I did lok on Target's web site, and I don't see it, but it is round with a hinged slightly domed lid. That's one of the things I like about it - being hard sided.
Anyway, I would imagine maybe other large box/home improvement stores have similar storage cases.

Thanks for the h2o hose caddy idea-I'm passing it on

Hi,
I received a great idea in one of my post replies, and I want to pass it along - maybe it'll work for you.
My water hose is unruly!!!!! It never coils up neatly - sound familiar? It is 25'. Someone, and I wish I could find the post, suggested to use a plastic Christmas wreath holder from
Target. They are in the stores now, and since it is a seasonal item, if you think you might want to check it out - you'll need to do so pretty soon.
The wreath caddy is perfect!!!!!!!!!!!! My hose loosely coils inside, it is plenty large enough to hold my 2 water hoses, and it fits in the storage bay just fine. It is an inexpensive solution to an annoying problem.

RE: Is a 08 to old???

Check the batteries- coach and house. Maybe even have the dealer replace house batteries.

RE: Have you had to wait for parts recently?

6 week wait for HWH jack. We got a delivery date about 3 weeks prior to shipping. I made the service center call HWH to confirm the shipping/delivery dates. Yup, arrived when they said it would, but it was a long wait.

RE: Sewer hose support in Florida?

I winter in Ft Pierce, and yes, at least there, you need the sewer hose supported!!! It must be a county or town reg- but it is strictly enforced. The cg supplies a support for those that need it - they use rain gutter and wood braces - no charge. I believe (but not sure) - but the cg will be fined if they don't comply with the rule.

RE: UPDATE:No MH tail lights and no toad lights when towing

OP Kathy here. No, the mh tail lights are not working at all - w/ or w/out toad connected. I did clean the "pigtail" (i'm really liking that term :) ) connections w/vac and rag as best I could. I cannot reverse the power cord-as the ends are different. I am guessing there is no power going to the pigtail.
I will check the rear engine compartment today, I didn't even know to look there. I'd like to find that bank of fuses, if not for this problem, but for potential future problems should they arise.
In spite of all your best efforts, I'm going to have to go through the hassle of packing up and taking the coach to the rv tech - phooey.
thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving all. I'll update after the holiday with the "fix". Kathy

RE: UPDATE:No MH tail lights and no toad lights when towing

Thanks guys. OP here. The toad has NO lights when connected to mh- no tail lights, turn signals, or brake - leads me to think there is no power coming through the "pigtail" (never knew what to call that cord- good name).
I will go back and check the fuses again, I did have trouble trying to figure out the chart. Maybe I'll pull all the 10amp and check them. I don't think I have that panel enblethen describes.
I am taking the coach/toad to the rv tech this week. He is the one who wired mh/toad originally 3 years ago. I'm glad that if this had to happen, it is now, while I am "home". I was hoping that I could easily fix the problem and not have to leave the cg - etc. But it is more important to get it fixed.

UPDATE:No MH tail lights and no toad lights when towing

Hi,
I have a Newmar Kountry Star DP, '02 on a freightliner. I have been towing for 3 yrs w/current setup with no problems. The last time I connected toad, '04 PT Cruiser - no lights with power cord plugged in. Then I noticed the tail lights of the mh were not functioning. The mh has clearance markers, flashers, turn signal, and brake lights. Any ideas what might be going on here? Do you think the 2 issues are related?
I did check the tail light 10 amp fuse located in the generator compartment. It was fine.
UPDATE. You guys are good!!!!!!!! Yes, the tail lights were a fuse issue- not the 10amp but the 30amp "marker lights". No power to the toad - loose ground in pigtail. All fixed and ready to head to FL after Christmas with family in NJ. Thanks, I keep learning - and if I have similar issues in the future - at least I have some starting points.
Happy Thanksgiving, Kathy

Overhead fluorescent light not working - fix??

Hi,
My bedroom overhead fluorescent light is not working, went out yesterday. It is not the 18" tubes (2), they are new, and just to be sure, I put them in a working fixture and they are fine. That is the extent of my DIY knowledge:E
What is the fix? Is there something in the fixture that needs to be replaced? Or, do I need to replace the entire fixture? Remember, I am NOT a DIYer, please explain in simple detail. Can the repair/replacement be done by someone (me) with no electrical-wiring knowledge? Is the fixture or parts RV specific? Or can I go to HD?
I'd hate to have to take the RV to a repair center for such a minor theing, but we really need that light. Any advice is greatly appreciated,
Kathy

RE: Yosemite during the week

I am planning a May/June Yosemite visit, also. Class A 38' w/toad. Like you, site size might be tight. If you go to the yosemite web site, there is info for rv length in all the cg's. If you decide to make reservations, there is also info about when you can reserve. (ex. Dec 15 for May 1-15) I hear sites get reserved within minutes of the 7AM start. Since it sounds like you have some date flexibility, it might make it easier to get a site. Some of the higher elevation cg's won't be open in May, so there are fewer available spaces. I will try to get a site, and like you, I have some flexibility, but if I can't get a spot, I will have a "plan b", because nothing will keep me from enjoying my first Yosemite visit!!!!!!!!!! Good luck, maybe we'll be cg neighbors :)

RE: Ants, Ants, and more Ants

I've had good luck with liquid Terro (not sure if I spelled it right).
Put a drop of so on a 1" square - they provide a few, then just use cardboard or something. Place them anywhere you have seen them, in a few days - no more ants.

I don't know about the window thing, but I do keep a spare key in the lp bay. I have had to use it once, and I was glad it was there.

RE: Tell me about Williamsburg, VA & where to stay

Another vote for American Heritage. Colonial Williamsburg is great, you can spend several days there, make sure you participate in whatever "events" are happening. The Gov Palace is extra, but if you've never been there, it is worth the $$$. Make reservations for lunch (or dinner), but I prefer lunch, at one of the inns. The staff is dressed in colonial garb, the food is typical of that time, and sometimes there is some entertainment. The Williamsburg Inn is fancy and pricey, but the others are more casual and reasonable.

RE: Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta RV lots

I was there 2 years ago. Made a "reservtion" for dry camping for 4 nights. I had never been there before, so I had no preference about where they parked me. There is a check-in line, park the rv there, go to the registration area. They will get you all squared away, then a staff member in a golf cart will escort you to your site. It is like rally parking. I arrived 1 day prior to the start, and registration was very quick, the next day, the rv's were lined up all the way out to the road. What a mess. If you can arrive a day or 2 ahead- that would be good. By the way, my site was overlooking the landing field- it was awesome.

I've stayed at Anchors Aweigh in Foley, great park. But keep in mind, Gulf Shores is a popular snowbird destination, it will be crowded. I think you will need reservations for any cg.

RE: Rv accident in Indianapolis

And for all this talk, I can't help but wonder about that 72 year old man. What must he be feeling? How would any of you feel, knowing the severity of injuries(even the horses) and it's your fault? What an awful thing to live with. My prayers are with the innocent victims here, but that man didn't set off that day with any intent to harm anyone. But, in the end, his actions caused this horrific event, and all those involved will deal with this for the rest of their lives.
