RE: Roadtrek fridge performance

After years of worrying about being level, it is great now to pull into a spot late at night and not even get out of the bus. Our Norcold is on all the time and works great. I did do several mods to make it a little quieter. Regards, Keith

RE: Meeting, Greeting and Christmas Shopping - San Francisco

Keith, one more question . . . can you spend the night there in your van??? I wish! No you can't. There was a RV park on 3rd but it went away with the Giants new home and all the new condos. Regards, Keith

RE: Meeting, Greeting and Christmas Shopping - San Francisco

Hi Barbara, Well, the Pier 30 is public so if you (or anyone else) happened to show up on the 20th . . . . Since we won't be in a numbered space (no spaces are marked towards the end of the pier), use 999 as the space number when paying. We are from Dublin. My DW works in the city. Regards, Keith

RE: Winterizing woes

I remember doing all that for years in Colorado. I even used heat tape around the valves so we could still dump bw and gw in the winter. I have never met anyone who had their tanks freeze. We had the lines freeze once running down a slushy, snowy highway near Albuquerque. We thawed them out with a hair dryer. Now I am glad I don't have to winterize much at all. Just some pink stuff in the bw tank and gw tank. Regards, Keith

Meeting, Greeting and Christmas Shopping - San Francisco

How about spending a Sunday in San Francisco? Meet some other Sprinter owners, hang out with a great view of the bay and do some Christmas shopping. December 20, a Sunday, lets meet at the public parking lot at Pier 30. Pier 30 is at the end of Bryant Street and Embarcadero. Parking is $6.00 for all day (enter code 999) as you won’t be in a stall and drive out to the end of the pier! I am going to stop a little short of the end so as not to block other folks who drive in for lunch but basically you can park anywhere you like. Bring your chairs. There is much to watch and much to see! Metro runs by the pier or you can walk to the Ferry Building where across the street there will be ice skating. Easy access to BART is there also, so you can BART to an amazing shopping experience at Union Square http://www.unionsquareshop.com/ (Powell exit and 1 blk) or the Westfield Mall http://westfield.com/sanfrancisco/ (Powell exit). Note: Whatever you buy has to fit into the Sprinter. We’ll be there around 10am, hang out for a nice lunch and then head for shopping. Details -The exact location is N37, 47.222? W122 23.160? if my GPS is correct. The GPS also showed I was -36 feet in elevation but I am pretty sure that was incorrect. -There are no open fires allowed so no barbeque’s or roasting chestnuts. -Trash – pack it in and pack it out. -Wear good walking shoes. -There is no water or other facilities at this location. (Luckily, some of us have no problem with that.) -All Sprinter or future Sprinter owners are invited so come out and show off your rig. (If your rig has a Mercedes engine you are invited.) Regards, Keith

RE: Worry about discrimination because of little "B"

B's and A's have different agendas for the most part. It just shows what type of camper you are. The A's like to have everything with them to make it just like home. The B's are a little more spartan, self-reliant and are able to explore more. Nothing wrong with either. Regards, Keith - explorer and B owner

RE: Sprinter 07 and up reset ASSYST instructions - really!

david_42 is correct. For those who do their own maintenace, resetting the ASSYST, the reading on your dash that tells you how long until your next maintenance was only possible if you went to the dealer. Now you don't have to make a trip to the nearest dealer. Sorry for the late response. I was in the Sierras with no connectivity. BTW, a 2008 Sprinter that was with us, lost turbo boost and had to leave early. I think it was the bottom cooling hose but will know more later. Regards, Keith PS. Congrats! You are a lucky guy!

RE: Need refrigerator fix

I put rubber strips on the bottom metal runners and added reflectix insulation all around. Still vibrates but is much quiter. Also at night I turn it down to 2 where it is normally on 3. Regards, Keith

Sprinter 07 and up reset ASSYST instructions - really!

From dukepilot in the Sprinter Forum . . . 1. Put the key in the ignition and switch it on without starting the engine. 2. The ASSYST mileage will show, when the mileage shown returns to the vehicle mileage, hold the O button down till you hear a beep (could take a while). 3. As soon as you hear the beep, press the M button repeatedly and a number of reset menus will appear. Select “reset 51? (don’t know what the other reset menus are for). 4. At reset 51 press the O button until a number 2 appears, release the O button, then press it twice and the LCD should show “display reset done.” This works with Sprinters that do not have steering wheel buttons. RE: A basement for my Sprinter

I didn't think of that. I may have to switch from gas to charcol! Good place to carry a dirty camp fire grille also. Regards, Keith

A basement for my Sprinter

After moving my spare to a door mount, I decided to use the original spare storage space for my basement. http://www.ourexcellentadventures.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/basement6-200x142.jpg height=200 width=142 Now I can store those nice to have but hopefully never needed items like chains, etc. More pictures and info on my blog. Is everything behind the drivers seat a vehicle or a home?

Is everything behind the drivers seat a vehicle or a home?

In California and I suppose other states, if you have a weapon in your CAR it should be in the trunk, unloaded and locked up. In your home, if you don't have kids, you can carry your weapon or have it loaded and ready to go. So, in your RV, if you have a weapon in the back, put away inside a cupboard, can it be loaded and accessible? Is your RV a vehicle or is the house part a home? Regards, Keith (who carries a weapon or two in his Sprinter)

RE: Sprinter based Class B's

For those who might be in the market for a new B, how does the new reality of MercedesBenz taking over sales of the Sprinter play into your plans? If I was in the market the fact that Mercedes was taking over would be a real positive for me. I could live with limited dealerships. Regards, Keith

RE: Forced option on Roadtrek

Was out and about again today kicking the tires on a 2010 Roadtrek RS. The one I saw was badged with the Mercedes emblems. According to the dealer, the emblems are now an $830.00 (List) forced option on the sprinter vans. I just got the pice sheets for the RS this Friday from RT - no such option on the list. Anyone know anything about this, maybe this is new as of Friday. We all know about the Jan 2010, deal with MB not selling the van to Dodge anymore. If you purchase one not badged MB and then decide to rebadge as many do, it will cost you roughly that much. Is the steering wheel marked MB? And the wheels? The MB badge will be better I think now that Dodge is out of the picture. I am pretty certain the MB badge helps me with my HOA. Regards, Keith And there was the kick, wheels no, steering wheel no. Only front grill and rear door with a few placards. You can compare the cost of ordering a new front end but don't forget you need to get it painted to match. Many of the placards are not used on MB's in Europe so most are worthless IMHO. If it has the alloy wheels replacing the center emblems is pretty inexpensive and about a 5 minute job. The steering wheel is the hardest to convert. There is also a hood emblem which is cheap and easy. The price is not to bad when you consider paint and labor. Definitely on the high end though like many dealer options. Regards, Keith

RE: Are you waving at me?

No, I don't wave. I fail to understand the purpose behind the custom, but it probably has something to do with ego--"see me, is my rig great or what". The same goes for those folks who insist on coming to my campsite and having a conversation. I am not lonely, in need of companionship, or want to make a new friend. I just want to travel, see the scenery, and enjoy the freedom of being left alone. I hope you have a sign you post at your site. Like maybe "No Trespassing." :) I do understand where you are coming from but it seems most campers are friendly like the folks in the movie RV. They can't believe you don't really want to meet them. It is strange for me - in real life I avoid crowds, talking to people, waving etc. but put me on the road (or an RV forum) and I am a different guy. Regards, Keith

RE: Maybe size matters

We spent years in Eurovans and VW campers. My DW is short so no problem but I am 6' and hit my head many times. We designed our 2008 Sportsmobile Sprinter so I could not bump my head. Love it! Regards, Keith

RE: Take'n It To The Streets

My SMB Sprinter is my daily drive so I use it almost everyday. It is great to have the refrigerator, toilet, the dog, camera etc. at hand just in case something comes up. Regards, Keith

RE: Class B Refrigerator Survey

Leaving it running all the time is the quickest way to wear it out. Perhaps, but full timers seem to do ok. We keep ours on with water, ice and drinks in it all the time. It is my daily drive and it is great to be leaving the dog park or the baseball game and have a nice cold bottle of water. I bought my SMB Sprinter to wear it out. That is the whole idea!
