RE: Attaching Wires to RV Roof

Brett, I will be interested in hearing how they hold up long term. Of course, you have a fiberglass roof I believe, and I have a rubber one. I ended up using Dicor to hold down my cable. It is still there after two years.

RE: Ohio Rallies for 2009

Thanks for all the condolences,it's great to have friends like you guys.
Some ask if we were going to get another dog,not until next spring. It will give us time to grieve and to decide what kind of dog to get.
Jim, last year after we lost Punky, I got to the point that I didn't even want to come home because there was no happy face there to greet me. (No comments about Linda). We are sooooo glad we adopted Webster and Kassy, but I'm sure you guys will do what is best for you.

RE: Towing four wheels dowm, Heads up.

This is my first post on this thread because, like Johnny T, I wanted to see if there was another side of the story. I contacted a highly placed person at Blue Ox and passed on this link so that they could see what was being written and offered to post a response if they wished to compose one. Below is an open letter written by Mr. Jim Huston, President of Blue Ox. I am posting this response here with the following comments:
1. I own a Blue Ox Aventa II tow bar with which I am very happy. The tow bar and base plate to which it is frequently attached have towed my Jeep Grand Cherokee over 62000 miles without incident.
2. I recently spoke in person to a Vice President of Blue Ox on another subject and I am personally convinced of their honest concern for producing a high quality product and for taking care of their customers.
3. I was particularly interested in Mr. Huston's comment that Mr. Ruben was towing behind a 5th wheel. Personally I didn't know you could do that (and maybe you can't) and wonder about the effect on towing equipment as a result.
Now here is the letter from Mr. Huston:
Stan Rubin and other interested parties.
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jim Huston and I am the President of Automatic Equipment Manufacturing Co. dba Blue Ox. We have been in business since 1925 and are proud of the products we make. We have not stayed in business all of these years by producing inferior products and ignoring customer inputs. Being from the “old school” I have a deep sense of responsibility for our actions. If we, as a company, do something wrong we will make it right. I do not post to these venues but feel I must present the “other side” of this story.
Mr. Rubin tows his Honda behind a 5th wheel travel trailer, a practice we can not endorse. Mr. Rubin also chose not to submit his warranty card which points out the fact that the product needs to be returned, at the customer expense, for an evaluation if there is a problem. To date, we have produced in excess of 3300 BX2246 base plates – this is the only one in our extensive data base that has failed in this manner.
When we do receive a product for evaluation it is inspected by our quality control department. Any out of the ordinary observations are passed along to the product development team and engineering for further analysis. In this case, it was apparent from the elongated holes, wear, rust marks and the condition of the fasteners that the base plate had been loose for an extended period. Mr. Rubin takes us to task for asking him to take responsibility to inspect his base plate as being too difficult. . A simple shake of the base plate by hand or foot and notice any unusual movement is sufficient. Mr. Rubin did note that we sent a replacement base plate immediately, at no charge, on notification so he could continue his journey. Our warranty covers material and workmanship on the product for some period of time to the original purchaser. We have not received a warranty card from Mr. Rubin nor have we asked for proof of purchase – we took him at his word. We do not warranty the proper installation, usage or maintenance of our product as we have no control over those items. We did not, and do not feel, this was a defect in material or workmanship, even in the face of the public blackmailing that has taken place. I presume Mr. Rubin is still using his Blue Ox base plate and tow bar in his travels.

RE: Ohio Rallies for 2009

With heavy hearts we sent Zoie to the rainbow bridge,we know that her suffering is over, but we miss her.
She died this morning, she was a great comfort to Dee while she was recovering from her bout, with cancer.
We also know that she'll be waiting for us when we cross that bridge,we know that she will be as anti-social there as she was here.
Zoie Rolie Jan 1996-Dec 2009
Jim/Dee, sorry to hear of your loss. We know how much you cared for Zoie and we also know how it feels to lose a good friend.

RE: NASA Launch Planning Help

We went to Florida and watched the launch last March and it was spectacular. We had camping reservations at Manatee Hammock to watch the launch, but the original launch was delayed a week and we couldn't get reservations at any campground for the delayed date so we just drove over from Sarasota and watched from Jetty Park.
Here are some sites where you can get information on watching the launch.
http://www.launchphotography.com/Shuttle_Launch_Viewing.html
http://www.sworld.com.au/steven/space/shuttle/guide.txt
Here is the website for Manatee Hammock campground:
http://www.nbbd.com/godo/prec/ManateeCamp/index.html
Manatee Hammock CG is right on the coast and you can look across the water at the launch.
Pay particular attention to the suggestion that you don't photograph the launch. You can buy a million photos of a launch, you only get to watch it once. Enjoy the view.
I believe you can also camp at Jetty Park.

RE: big mistake

... but in a Motor-home, I think you'd have to live 1,000 years to recover your costs with energy savings & bulb life.
Unless your motorhome catches on fire. Then you recover it very quickly.

RE: Heating MH

I am sitting in Decatur Indiana, with two electric heaters running, and not tripping circuit breakers. Typically the breakers in a motorhome are 15 amp and should be adequate for running a typical small space heater. Do you have more than one heater on a circuit or are you running anything else at the same time.

RE: Furnace Blower Motor does not work

The furnace only needs 12vdc. 120 doesn't go to the furnace. Are you sure you have 12v or is your battery low? Actually, if you don't have the battery in, the converter may not be able to run the furnace blower.

Ok, this is becoming embarrassing! I know the Browns suk, but I used to be able to count on the Steelers to at least represent this area in a respectable manner, but to lose to the RAIDERS??!!! YIKES!!! Tha is just unacceptable.

RE: Atwood Furnace Noise

You didn't say how old the furnace is, but it is very possible that the motor bearings need lubed. Try a different service shop.

RE: water heater goes out in 10 seconds....

I'm confused by your statement, "filled from a completely empty tank". Was your tank empty or was the tank you received propane from empty (not likely as then you wouldn't have gotten any propane :B)?
If your propane tank was completely empty, you may want to consider that the new propane hasn't reached the water heater yet. Try lighting it several times.

RE: Motor Home Comfort

my dash heat is all we need when driving. i never use the reostat on full hot. fan speed is on medium.
I was beginning to think we were the only ones who just used the dash heat and never have it on high. Now we're fulltimers so it usually is above freezing for us, but at 40° the dash heat is just fine. And I don't care what temperature the bedroom area is because we aren't there - though the bed will be warm (it's above the engine) when we get where we are going!
Also, to the person who said diesels never get above 180° - HUH :h
Barb
Guess I should have said that MY diesel never gets above 180. Well, there was that time back in July, coming north out of Phoenix, towing the Jeep, but that was another issue. I will repeat, never gets above 180. 315hp Cummins ISC.

RE: Spartan NGP

While talking with Spartan reps at the RVIA show this week, the aim for the new chassis is to take some of the design work out of the RV manufacturers area. Since Spartan already has the dash/cockpit designed and built, the RV maker can focus on building the "house". The idea is to make it cheaper and quicker to get a new RV out the door. The chassis looks very nice, strong and well built, but we would expect that from Spartan.
I will have photos and more information on the new chassis on the RV.net Blog early next week.

RE: Motor Home Comfort

Two things working against you here. First is that the diesel runs a lot cooler than your gasser. Typical gas engine water is over 200 degrees while a diesel tops out at around 180 degrees. Second is that the water has to travel all the way from the back of the coach up to the heater. On the way, the hoses it travels in are cooled down by the weather. It's not the most efficient system to heat the whole coach. We run our furnace while driving.

Ken/Kathy, nice. Got to talk to many RV industry suppliers and came away with the opinion that there are many who really care about their customers.
