RE: Yet another leveling question

My signature has the BOM and instructions to make your own air bags.
For the OP, here is a link to these wood ones made by prairie boy & gurl. Their measurements are here if you want to make some wood levelers like them.

RE: LevelAir Style Air Bags - Build Your Own Thread

Hey Guy,
Thanks for the validation, I think the ultimate thanks at the beginning of this post goes to you for coming up with the idea.
Like Chuck, I have been extremely pleased with these things. I would have happily paid $70 for them if they were still available when I made mine.

RE: Hitches

Top of the line Hensley $2500-3000 from Hensley.
2nd in line Reese straight line dual cam system $630 shipped
3rd in line Equalizer($459 shipped) or Reese Pro series($330 shipped) both are the same type of antisway system and WDH.
None of the above systems require anything be modified or removed to back up. RVW seems to be a good price on the equalizer and e-trailer.com seems to be the best price for the Reese products.
Last option - pick your favorite WDH made by any manufacturer and add a friction bar sway control, some are probably better than others, just get one that looks easy to link up and take off. Works for tons and tons of people, but as they say, you only need good sway control once.
BTW, I love my dual cam. So simple to hook up a caveman could do it. Drop it on the ball, load the bars and leave.

RE: Warranty vs. Dealer Worries

I am in the twin cities and was able to beat the cost it would have been from RVW with my local dealer Neimeyers on my 23ss. They have locations in both Elko and Maple Grove. I would be very surprised if they would not do warranty work on your trailer. I have had nothing but good experiences with them.

RE: Prodigy vs P3 vs Primus brake control.

I have the P3 which is the step up model from Prodigy for Tekonsha products. So many people are happy with the prodigy. The same features as prodigy with the all digital design, which was the selling point for me. I would recommend the prodigy as a minimum.
I got mine on ebay for 125.99 shipped from user rvsupply(adventurerv.net). I would do it again in a heartbeat.
adventurerv.net also has the prodigy for 92.99 + shipping. Or you could probably find them selling one on ebay for cheaper overall with shipping.

RE: Leveling and Stablizing

I made my own Airbags. You can too with a few simple tools and some self motivation.

RE: Power leveling

Absolutely not! The frame and axles are not designed for loads and forces of the type you are proposing in the location you are contemplating.
For real? The point on the frame where the axles are located( or in this case within a few inches of that point) is not rated to handle ~50% of the rated weight of the axles(or camper)? It better be, otherwise none of us should be driving these things down the road.
I say go for it! Sounds like my kind of project. I would be glad to consult on it. As much as I like my airbags, if I could affordably do an auto leveler system, I would do it. PM me if you need a sounding board.

RE: Did you do shelf mod in wardrobe?

I just did my wardrobe shelving project in my Roo. I think it turned out pretty nice. The walls are thin, but its not like you are putting lead weights on the shelves. 2 or 3 screws in each bracket should hold up a shelf just fine. I am very happy with how mine turned out. Follow the link for more pics and explanation.

Spring mods

I decided to do a couple spring mods before we go camping next weekend. These are actually close to year old projects already, I bought the parts, but only the last few days have I found that good ole round-tuit to gitrdone.
The first one is the battery cutoff switch. I think I bought this thing before we even got the camper along with a few other items. I finally got it installed.
http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh246/mike_mn/Rockwood%20Roo%2023SS/Battery%20Cutoff/BatteryCutoff.jpg height=320
http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh246/mike_mn/Rockwood%20Roo%2023SS/Battery%20Cutoff/BatteryCutoffClose.jpg height=320
The second mod is a shelving mod.
http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh246/mike_mn/Rockwood%20Roo%2023SS/Shelves/P1130273.jpg height=320
I used 1/8 inch finish plywood covered in contact paper, trimmed with an L shaped trim piece(the picture has the trim piece backwards...). I used small finish nails to nail into the edge of the 1/8 inch edge and also a couple driven at a 45 degree angle into the cabinet sides to secure the trim.
http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh246/mike_mn/Rockwood%20Roo%2023SS/Shelves/ShelfMaterials.jpg height=320
I mounted the divider to the existing shelf and added a cross bar. There was also an existing 1x1 to stiffen the center section of the cabinet that the divider easily mounted to.
http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh246/mike_mn/Rockwood%20Roo%2023SS/Shelves/DividerMounting.jpg height=320
Each shelf and the divider have contact paper on them. I added a square block to keep the hanger rod screws from poking through.
http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh246/mike_mn/Rockwood%20Roo%2023SS/Shelves/TopSHelf.jpg height=320
I used 1/4x1/2 inch rough trim for the shelf supports. It seemed to work well, however I would have drilled a pilot hole for every screw knowing what I know now. A drywall screw will split this trim if you don't drill a pilot hole first.

RE: How to approach warranty work and FR contact.

Funk,
I would try contacting Neimeyers in Elko. They may be receptive to doing warrenty work even if you have not purchased from them. I have a had nothing but good luck working with them.

RE: Gas Mileage Question

A good benchmark for this is to expect about 50% of normal everyday driving mpg when pulling the trailer for pretty much any tow vehicle. Anything above or below that has to do with careful driving, the terrain, and the wind speed and direction.

RE: Roo 23ss LCD TV install

The Roos have no studs. They are laminate-foam-fiberglass sandwich walls. Pick your spot and go!
http://z.about.com/d/homerepair/1/0/9/4/-/-/selftap.jpg This is what I used. I had to clip off the ends of them becuase they would have went through the outside, but like I said, they worked for me, but I do remove the monitor before towing.

RE: Roo 23ss LCD TV install

For the simplest way of connecting up to the Concertone, I mounted it under the concertone. There is no way to run the Concertone DVD player, which in my situation was required over the water tank(without making it look jerry rigged). I only have a PC monitor and a VGA to RCA video converter(in the cabinet) to connect to the Concertone. If you have a regular TV with built in DVD, over the water tank could work better.
I do remove the screen when traveling and keep in stored in the floor cabinet in the back of the HTT. It is one simple screw and 2 plugs into the screen to get it going. I used some large 1/2 inch screw in shanks to keep it stable. I am fairly confident that leaving it up during travel would be fine, but for how easy it is to remove, I have never tried it.

RE: LevelAir Style Air Bags - Build Your Own Thread

I use a hand bicycle pump, it works great. In most cases you don't need to fill the thing to the breaking point. I inflate each one separately and probably don't spend more than 1-2minutes doing it. With an electric pump 10-20 seconds should more than fill them to their needed position.

RE: weight distribution hitch or not??

If you are considering the Equalizer I would buy the Reese Pro Series instead. $330 shipped I bought my Dual cam system from here.

RE: 2009 Roo 23SS Towing

You will find the equalizer is pretty popular on this HTT forum, but I am a huge fan of the Reese Dual Cam system. The dual cam is more expensive and from what I read across all of the forums here at RV.net, most would agree the system is superior to the Equalizer style system. To compete with the Equalizer, Reese has the Pro series, which provide the easier head adjustment(no washers to add or remove) and brake pads on the bars instead of metal on metal. It is also a bit cheaper than the Equalizer.
Here is a link to the Pro Series, the Reese competitor to the Equalizer.

RE: LevelAir Style Air Bags - Build Your Own Thread

It came to my attention that this thread existed long before I fabricated a similar system and subsequently started my own Leveling Bag thread on the Fifth Wheel Forum.
After reading this entire thread (I actually only scanned some of the replies) I decided to steal the idea of the "Y Thingy".
I thought you fine HTT folks might like to see My version of the Y-thingy
Glad to see that 5ers are accepting these bags as levelers. I was also glad to see that your test lift of ~8500lbs failed the bag. That is just about the failure point calculated using 5 1/4-20 bolts equally spaced on 1/4 inch aluminum bars. Since most 5ers are heavy relative to an HTT, I would definitely add more bolts or use different bars. Sounds like you did just that and I don't imagine you would see a leak issue in the future. The different bag material is nice too. Glad to see you thinking outside of the box and putting together a nice package, great minds think alike right...;)
I have had nothing but good trouble free usage with these things in the first year of service. I don't know how easy or painful using boards would be, but I can only imagine a big pain.
