RE: RV newbies from WI traveling to Alaska

Dog food!!!! You can buy dog food here in Sitka from any of the two grocery stores, also Burgess the town vet sells specialty dog food as well, pretty much at cost. Personnal, I usually buy my doog food from Costco when I make my Semi-annual run to Juneau.

RE: buddy heater

Try a ceramic heater, you can run it all night, and not have to worry about CO.

RE: small trailer for TC

Do you not strap down your four-wheelers when you drive? They don't look very secure.

RE: Wiring gremlins

I had a similar problem on mr 73' VW Super Bettle and it ended up being that the ground wire for the back driverside brake light was corroded and was not connected. Once I found that out, it resolved all my issus. -MRanger

RE: Urban Boondocking while working

Only plug up to top off battery when sitting in the company parking lot. Most everything runs off invertors. And with these new gel batteries it is not very often I need to. Sure glad I got them for the trip coming up for nine weeks. Capt PJ Capt PJ What type of gel batteries are you now useing?

RE: In your opinion????

After much thought, "if it aint broke don't fix it". My AF is in great shape. And I don't want to add any more weight to my F-350 by buying a bigger TC. So we are going to keep our current set up and possible buy a Little Guy tear drop camper which we will tow behind us, for family to sleep in. Check them out here. http://www.golittleguy.com/teardrops/ I think we are going to go with the 6-Wide Sport version, that why we have the platform for storeage and our bikes. Thanks for all the help, but for now the Host 270 is on hold. -MRanger

RE: Dually VS SRW....I was in Horror Driving my SRW Truck

Man, you guys are making me feel like I'm in the wrong for having my SRW F-350 hauling my Arctic Fox 990. It rides like a champ. Granted Ive go "E" rated tires, air bags, bump stops, and a roadmaster rear anti-sway bar. And thats really all that matters to me is that I feel comfortable and at the end of the day I know I'm not putting myself or my family at risk. I don't think I need a DRW truck. -MRanger

RE: In your opinion????

Ignoring that this should probably be moved to the Class C Forum, I do have to ask, do you really see the purchase of any RV (or TC) as an investment? With few exceptions, I think of RV's (and TC's) as being an expense. They are great in many ways, but they typically depreciate as fast as we make the payments. I wish you the best, which ever way you go. Wayne RedDog1 I'm asking the opinion of TC owners on this one, I've posted a similiar question before in the Class C Forum. Can you please let this thread run its course. Thanks MRanger

In your opinion????

So, Ive brought this up in the "C" class forum before just to get ideas, but I thought I would throw this out there to my friends here in the TC Forum. I currently have a F-350 with a 990 AF that I keep on the truck permenently. I am looking to upgrade, families getting bigger. Have any of you looked at Host's 270 and 300 C class models. They are built on an F-550 crewcab frame, and are pretty must a truck with a permenent truck camper welding in place. I know they are expensive, but its okay with me to invest in one. Any thoughts????????:?

RE: Host 330 4x4 quad slide

Ive been looking at the 270 since 2007 and am often tempted to trade in the truck camper for one. God Ide love to have all the storage. If I did buy it I would be full timing out of it. Do you think thats do-able? Host Rider? Host Rider, I believe we have talked about this before, you still loveing your 300.

RE: RV newbies from WI traveling to Alaska

Everyone here is pretty correct. Sitka is an Island. The only way to get here is by plane or ferry. There are 4 RV parks, 2 with hook ups 2 with out. One of the ones with hook ups is ran by the city, located across the brige on Japonski Island, and the second is ran by The Sportsman Association, located right by the ferry terminal. The two with out hook up are the Stargavin campground, located at the end on Halibut Point Road, and the second is the Beaver lake campground, which is located up Blue Lake Road. Also, if you are looking for a long term camping, you may be able to put an add out in the local paper (Sitka Sentinial), or try at the local trailer park. I see a lot of 5ers parked there. In defense of you Husband, I would also go with a 5er with a 4x4 truck.
