mkirsch is right you have a short......somewhere. Try this, unplug all the jacks then press the button to lower the jacks. Of course the jacks won't do anything but listen for the pop you heard before. If you don't hear the pop then the wiring to the jacks is ok. Then plug in 1 jack and hit the lower button if the jack works the problem is in one of the other jacks. Unplug the one that works and try the others one at a time. If they all work one at a time plug them all in and see what happens. If they work individually but not all together they are drawing to much current, (getting old) If the jacks run one at a time exercise them they may loosen up and work for you. I don't know why up is down and visa versa? good luck
