RE: How quiet are the Sprinter conversions?

My LTV Free Spirit is quieter than my 06 Chevy K2500HD pick up (gas), which I never thought was noisy. But I have driven them back to back several times, and there is no doubt whatsoever.
It is 1/4 the dB level of our Ford (gas) Phoenix Cruiser (B+ or C depending on your beliefs).

RE: Electric Sofa sleeping comfort?

Recent owners of a LTV Free Spirit. Had a memory foam matress in our C, memory foam at home. Wife and I both have back problems.
Our new LTV sofa is indeed memory foam, and we both really like sleeping on it. It's huge (king size) and we spent 3 nights on it last weekend.
We suspected we would need a topper, but we are very pleasantly surprised at it's comfort!

RE: So Many Sprinters...

a)Why? Drive one. You'll find out! My wife LOVES our new Sprinter, and LOVES driving it as well.
b)Not "cutting the box" means more body integrity - safety, as well as a whole bunch quieter and less flexing.
c)I believe the Winnie "Era" is a "B", no?

RE: Info on US Highway 30 and US-224-(OH-IN)

Sarge-
I80 is the superior road. I76 thru PA, then again when it splits from 80 in OH is VERY ROUGH. 71 down to 30 is not bad. 30 west of 71 is nice all the way to Bucyrus - that's as far as I've gone.
Say hi to Kenny B for me in Galion!

RE: The Upside of Downsize RVs

Just a couple of things I have noticed over the past years:
a)The smaller units get driven quite a bit more.
b) very few folks seem to "upsize", while the inverse happens frequently.
Of course - if it's your ONLY home, a "B" would be tough.....

RE: PW plateau ?s

The macerator (at least the one I have and others I have seen) takes the stuff after the dump valves. They can be bypassed and dumping can take place the ol' fashioned way - as long as you have a regular sized stinky slinky with you.

PW plateau ?s

Has anyone added a macerator system or a second coach battery to a Pleasure Way Plateau?
We are narrowing down our search for a B, and after living with a macerator in our C, well - once you have one, you'll never go back.
And from a boondocking standpoint, 2 batteries is the minimum that will work for us - but PW does not offer the second battery - they told me that Mercedes will not allow them to do so (even though other RV manufacturers do it.)
DW likes the PW more than the LTV, and I think the Airstream is the only model that offers everything I want feature wise - but y'all have questioned the build quality, and DW doesn't like the floor plan.

RE: B's with dual rear wheels

thanks. The PW has the biggest fridge I've seen in a B with their 3500, and is very nicely appointed/laid out. Only one battery though, no invertor, inferior charger, no macerator. the interstate also has heated tanks,a huge LP tank relative to others, advertises their insulation, along with a 3 stage charger built into the invertor - which is the proper way to charge the 2 AGMs that they also have. Can you tell that I travel where it's cold?

RE: B's with dual rear wheels

Very timely-I'm considering the same 2 Bs. I'm really interested in the new Airstream - interested if someone has actually been in one, because the older model was sort of shabby - but I really like the "systems" thinking of the new one - electrical, plumbing etc.
So to answer the tire question- I'm a "C" guy right now. Phoenix installed braided extenders on my unit, and I questioned two of the fellows who build them, and they told me they only had a problem with one in the many years that they have used them. If you're REALLY worried, you can buy solid metal - of- your- choice extenders. The idea is you check & fill both tires from the exterior. So that part is a no brainer.
The advantage of the dual wheels is the chassis that comes with those extra 2 tires. It is a 3500 chassis, with much greater Cargo Carrying Capacity. Most longer 2500 Sprinter vans are *dangerously* close to being maxed out with all fluids, a couple people, a dog, a cat, a Flemish Giant bunny, and stuff. I have yet to ride in a 3500, and wonder if the ride (relatively unloaded) is noticeably rougher. Of course loaded, it should be dreamy.
So, has anyone BEEN IN or OWN a 2009 Airstream Interstate? Please PM me, I'm not a hijacker.

RE: Sprinter ?s

You folks are THE BEST!!!
One more question (that's not a promise)...
When were - or have they always been - stability control and traction control added as features? I am open to a low mileage or older new model, but I want those two features.
Thanks again, and happy holiday - whichever you celebrate!

RE: Everything Looks Bigger From A 'B'

That's one honey of a bunny!
The fellow that bred my border collie had some bunnies, if I recall correctly "Flemish giants" that were HUGE! Could make many, many children happy on easter morning!

RE: Sprinter ?s

Wow! Impressive posts! Thanks!
Question: If I purchase a Freightliner version (LTV) will I need a Freightliner dealer for warranty service? I assume (and you know what trouble that can lead to...) that Dodge has far more dealers that could service the sprinter, no?

RE: 4x4 RT190

OK, OK I'm a cynical coot.
Driving on a beach is not driving on a road. If this were a standard RT 4wd I could buy the idea. But with those tires and wheels, winch on the front, gas can holder on the back - ummmmm, that's a lot of work "just for looks". It wasn't bought that way (like a hummer), so quite a bit of effort went into that!
It is cool though, I must admit - although top heavy I suspect.

Never off road?
Ummmm, sure - they spent 25K doing that just to go in the snow.
Right.

RE: Sprinter ?s

I don't see how a propane gen COULD "gum up". There's no gasoline to turn into varnish.
I was asking , in general, how they work. Just fine apparently.
The only downside that I see is that it is one more thing using up the propane in cold weather - and Bs don't have the biggest tanks to begin with.

RE: Sprinter ?s

Thanks for the replies!
Service shoudn't be a problem around town (Pittsburgh) - there are A LOT of sprinters in use around here - from tradesmen to FedEx! Out on the road could be a bit of an issue.
The bottom line though is - if DW likes to drive and travel in the unit, it will be used. If not - as it is with our Ford class C - well it won't need any service, it will just sit and be wasted!

Sprinter ?s

I made it to Craig Smith Rvs yesterday to check out Bs. I was quite impressed (and I never expected to be) by the Sprinter based PW and LTV. The driving experience was great!
They had a very clean PW with 10K miles that is the "older" model. I've also seen some unowned "older" models still on dealer lots.
My questions:
1. what are your thoughts on the older 2.7 litre 5 cylinder engine vs. the newer 3.0l 6 cylinder?
2. Older headlights vs. the new style?
3. Propane generators - any problems vs. gasoline?
4. Anything else you think I should know about these (I don't know what I don't know - if you know what I mean!) I'm brand new to diesels.
Thanks - y'all are great!!!

RE: Tire Replacement: OK, Gimme the Lecture

That is a very sobering video.
Wait another year before replacing the tires? Ask yourself, do you feel lucky?
Just hope and pray that nobody else is hurt if you lose control from a high speed blowout. Better still.... replace your tires immediately - and check the date code before they mount them!

RE: Best ....

Thanks for all of your feedback. I'm going to get to Craig Smith RV over in ohio soon - while they still have some RTs, and of course drive and lay around them myself. They have RT, PW, and LTV.
Two more questions-
1.Anyone have any feedback on the Airstream sprinter? It looks like a nice layout..
2. I'm opening pandora's box-
Which B seems to you to be the best BUILT? The mfg websites give precious few details, and we all know "the industry"! Anyone NOT using chipboard/osb/mdf/particleboard?
Anyone doing a really good job with electrical/plumbing IYHO?

RE: Best ....

Just to clarify - I knew better than to ask for the "best B"!
I am thinking - for the first time - that I would consider the Sprinter.
It seems the chevy RTs have ground clearance issues(PW seems to be *a bit* better), and it sounds like folks are quite happy with their Sprinters. The commercial style Sprinter seats appeal to me quite a bit - but of course, I do have to take test drives and see how they do.
