I sympathize with you and your problem, however when we venture south, we are entering what is called a "foreign" (although friendly) country.
The proof of residency has been in effect for a very long time, however until recently (except for times of trouble) it has been implemented rarely.
To avoid the problem, there is a form "U.S.Internal Revenue Service Form 8840-Closer Connection Exemption Statement for Aliens", which is required by the U.S. from all Canadians who spend an average of 120 days per year in the U.S. (formula explained on the form) The form is available from the U.S. Internal Revenue website or the CSA website www.snowbirds.org Click on the blue button for "lifestyle links and you can go to the IRS site from there.
Since Homeland Security has been established, proper documentation will surely be a much more important requirement for Canadian fulltimers, or even Snowbirds who spend more than an average of 120 days in the sunny south. We fulltimed for 5 years out here on the prairies, and where never asked for proof of residency, however times are a changing.

We used the RV'rs Friend when we travelled with 5th wheels, and it was very useful.
However, since we now travel with a "B", we have not had as much use for it as the "B" is so much more user friendly.
They are good if you use the facilities of truck stops, especially for interstate travel, however if you do not travel a lot of interstates and do not use truck stops, you may find not as useful as the traveller who hauls a large rig and uses interstates a lot.

I am sure you will enjoy the "B" in AZ & NM, especially their State Parks. We have spent a lot of time in both states in 5th wheels and are now travelling in a "B", and are finding it gives us much more freedom to move and explore.
Have fun; the route down to Vegas through Nevada is something to consider; beautiful, no freeway and uncrowded. That is the route we are planning on our way down in early Dec.

Pleasureway house battery

We are very interested in a Pleasureway on the Ford chassis. While checking out storage etc. I noticed the house battery compartment is only large enough for one battery.
How have you Pleasureway owners dealt with this, or is it a concern?
Right now my old LTV has 2 #27's and solar, and I am concerned if the one battery is enough for camping use. Travelling would be no problem.
Is one of the newer "hi-tech" batteries enough to compensate, or are there other alternatives?

Depending on the chassis you have. I have a Dodge chassis and Michelin XPS Ribs made a significant improvement in the handling. If a GM chassis others would have better advice.

Very interesting!
Has anyone checked out the Tom Tom Gps's that come equipped with U.S., Canada & Mexico Maps right out of the box.
The XL 340 at $230 cdn looks real interesting and was wondering what quality and detailed the Mexico map is.
I use a Tom Tom now, and am quite happy with the mapping system they use, however the addition of Mexico would be wonderful.

Although our LTV is on a '97 Dodge chassis, our handling difficulties were virtually solved by; front end alignment; new Bilstien shocks; spacers; and new Michelin XPS Rib tires.
All of the changes made an improvement, however to say which one ???
The shocks and tires were probably the most, however they were all a help.
So was adjusting the "slack" in the steering box. The "B" now has 160,000 kms on it and is a joy to drive except in high cross or quarter winds; however my Rav 4 isn't much better in cross winds either.

Mudchucker, we received a refund from MPIC Autopac, when we returned from Mexico. Just kept the receipts from turning in our sticker at the border, made application to MPIC for refund of uninsured time in Mexico, along with the receipt of Mexican auto insurance and no problem.

We own a '97 LTV and use the power sofa for sleeping as well as evening relaxing. We do have a 1 1/2" pad on it for sleeping, which is folded over the back when used as a sofa. The pad, sheet, and top are one unit similar to travesac, and are easily folded over the rear of the sofa. The bed is made up as a sofa ever day when we arise in the am. The bed is used as a king size bed even though we are both small people. The 2 or 3 minutes it takes to make a comfortable bed into a comfy sofa is well worth it. One mod I made was a set of slats to fill the space the large table was originally used for. Much lighter and fold/store behind the driver seat.

WE have a '97 LTV and keep the tires at 60 front and 80 rear with the air bags at about 60 (depending on wind and road for the air bags). Seems to get the best handling at these values for me. The 3500 Dodge chassis has a short wheelbase, so may require a bit a experimenting to find what works for you.

We purchased our '97 Leisure Travel Van 4 years ago, loving the unit, however knowing it needed work. We negotiated the purchase price and have since replaced the tires, shocks, added spacers on the rear wheels and just had the tranny rebuilt. The van has been trouble free on trips to the Yukon/Alaska, Mexico, southern U.S.A, and western Canada. Bought with 100,000 km and now over 160,000km, and could still sell for not very far from what we bought it for.
Long story short; if you have a good idea of the condition of the older van, purchase with the knowledge it will need more maintenance and possibly repairs than a new one, and you like the layout etc., you will be very happy with the van. Just because a van is newer does not mean your are immune from possible problems; less likely, however "Murphy" always lurks.
Good luck and whatever you decide will be the right decision.

I installed Bilsteins on our '97 Leisure Travel Van and purchased them from eshocks.com. I called their 1-800 number and they helped me through the selection process. They shipped free at the time.
Made a big difference in the handling.

Manually move a power seat?

Can a 6 way power seat be moved manually if the power is lost?
Swivelling is manual, however for and aft etc. are all via power.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Fortunately, the ultimate failure has not happened yet! I have the seat in my preferred driver's position, and do not play around with it too much.
When it failed the first time, I decided then, to not swivel it again until I found out if it could be moved manually, so there it is; in it's preferred driving position.
I will pursue this option further and post if I find out any good info.

Manual operation of a power driver's seat?

Had the experience this past winter of the power going missing on my powered drivers seat. It was in the forward most position after having been swivelled. I managed to find a loose connection under the seat frame and got it to work, however does anyone know if the seat can be manually operated if the power is not available. Must be some way to over-ride the power motors. The seat is the drivers on a '97LTV.
