RE: RV security system

We also live in a nice community. When our PW Excel was two or three years old, someone broke in and ripped out the flat screen TV. I don't know just how they got in because no windows were broken but they had pried the door or something (there was an increase in wind noise afterwards). The vehicle is parked in a second driveway next to our house. We just had a 6' gate built across the driveway. It would not stop someone determined to get in but would prevent some spontaneous passerby from checking out the van.

RE: I can't sleep

I have had trouble sleeping well for many years. I discovered cutting caffeine after 3:00 p.m. helps a lot. When I am wakeful, I listen to downloads on my Ipod. That either puts me to sleep or gives me something interesting to listen to.

RE: PW Excel tire recommendations......

We have an 04 PW Excel and put new tires on it last year. Les Schwab recommended Toyo Hyparadial ST truck tires. I like them a lot. The vehicle handles well with them.

RE: adoption/birth parents

I can't address these adoption questions personally. However, a few years back my daughter and I were in Germany and went to the town where my great grandparents lived prior to coming to the USA. I was surprised at how meaningful this was to me. I scanned the faces of people I saw on the street, looking for someone who looked like me. I wished that we could find the house where my family once lived or discover the cemetary where other ancestors were buried. I believe that most people have an inherent desire to connect with those who have gone before and to know their story. I would guess that desire might be even stronger in adopted children.

RE: Re: Heavy rain. How do you know when it's time to go?

One thing I have often thought about when traveling is the importance of knowing where you are. That sounds very simple but when getting weather warnings on TV or radio, a county is often mentioned. We usually haven't a clue what county we are in--sometimes we don't know the state if we have been on the road for awhile. Once we were in Susanville CA when the forests of CA were burning. We stopped at an RV park for the night. I asked about evacuation should it be necessary. The attendant named a town to head toward. I told her we did not know where that was and pointed left or right and she gave me the correct direction. We, thankfully, did not have to leave. Things are tricky when you're out of familiar territory. Now we have the GPS but it has provided some poor routes so there you are. Pre-planning can literally be a life saver.

RE: Dealer's Got Me Confused about need to Level RT

My DH is a retired engineer. He got tired of my worrying about the PW being out of level. He took the specs for the fridge and did the math. I don't remember just what he used--something about the allowable degrees off of center. For there to be a problem, one really would not feel comfortable moving around in the coach. Since then, I try to get the "bubble close to center" but don't worry. We have an 04 Excel

RE: Craig's List Scammers... How do they make money?

Nothing is 100% safe/secure. Recently in the Seattle area there was a gang who responded to Craigs List ads. They would show up at the home where the advertised item was and rob the owners. In one sad situation, the owner tried to protect his family and was killed as a result. The crooks were young and have been caught but there are children who no longer have a dad. Newspaper advice was to meet potential buyers in a public place away from your home. Sound advice but hard sometimes. I have a lovely piano that I would like to sell but it doesn't fit easily in the back of my van.

Need Info

I am looking for information about the Out West B #3 Rally. I searched the Rally section but came up with nothing. Does anyone here know anything? Thanks in advance and I hope it's okay to post this brief plea.

RE: Got pulled over.

I have lived and driven in Washington many, many years. I remember that turning into the closest lane was part of my driving test. I must say that I don't always do it but assumed that it was still "the law".

RE: Guys, what's your favorite chick flick?

I watched a movie Saturday night that I really enjoyed, "Last Chance Harvey" made in 2008 starring Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson. I never heard of it prior to getting it on Netflix. I told DH how much I liked it and, surprisingly, he said he would like to see it. So, Sunday after church, we watched it together. He also liked it a lot. I rarely ever watch any movie twice but I enjoyed this one just as much, if not more than when I watched it the night before. So, I would guess that DH would vote for this as his favorite "chick flick" since he can rarely remember anything but sports related events for longer than a day or two.:W

RE: holding a sign

I live in a fairly affluent area and there was an article in the local newspaper a few years ago about two guys fighting over an intersection site for displaying their "homeless" signs. Turns out neither were homeless. One said that he could earn $1000.00 per month tax free by begging. Since then I never give money to anyone on the street. I have given some food but I save the $$ and give it to local charities which deal with the needy and genuinely homeless.

RE: any animal vets or vet workers out there??

Might it not make more sense to discuss the issue with your own trusted vet, rather than asking strangers on an RV group? Dutch My own "trusted vet" just quoted me $600 to clean my Westie's teeth--provided nothing more needed doing. I about fainted and, after 20+ years, am going to change vets. I would be interested in anything safe that would deal with any plaque but don't think Lili would like to have her teeth brushed daily.

RE: Movies you absolutely have to have the DVD

i very rarely like to see a movie twice. However, I did see Harold and Maud three times by taking two different friends to see it after DH and I saw it. I thought it was SO funny but one of my guests (my niece) thought it was horrible. Just goes to show ya that people are different.

RE: 2 am retreat to a hotel

Here's an idea, would it be possible for you to turn your queen (the bed, not the DW) into 2 twin beds? Just a thought... john 'I am Canadian' If I remember correctly, a standard sized bed is 54 X 72. Our PW twin bed arrangement has two beds that are 27 inches wide and one is a bit longer than the other. DH who is 6' tall gets the longer one. I who am 5'3'' get the shorter. He usually gets the Westie on his side unless he can persuade her to crawl onto the foot of my side. It works well for us.

RE: Why not put the Toyota in neutral?

I buy a new car about every 10 yrs and this was THE year. Since we had so much snow last winter, I decided I wanted a 4 wheel drive. Got a Toyota Rav 4, and to get a couple of features I wanted, we had to get about the top of the line. There is so much electronic stuff on that car that I never know exactly what is happening. It will beep at me for the least little reason(I think it is deliberately perverse that way) The manual is 516 pages long (I read about 150 pages and my eyes glazed over. DH does not drive it because he has the tendency to lose keys etc. This has no key as such. However once he did take it to the store. After a good long while, the phone rang. DH says "How do you start your car?" Nothing he tried got the car to start. (You have to have it in park and push on the brake plus have the electronic fob close by). The only good thing is that my Toyota was manufactured in Japan and is not part of the recall. There is an element of uncertainty in the back of my mind each time I go somewhere. Personally, I think the problem has to be electrical in nature and those intermittent problems are hard to diagnose.

RE: PleasureWay Driveability

We have a 2004 PW Excel. With the exception of driving it home from the dealer, we have had NO problems with handling. The dealer had failed to put air in the rear air bags and this caused some steering problems. Inflating the rear air bags and putting in some water and gear in the van made a huge difference. Since then, we have put on bilstein shocks and changed the tires (they needed it). Neither of these changes made much difference in the handling; it is fine! I, the wife, do all the driving and I have no complaints--I love my Excel!

RE: what size slow cooker fits in B sink?

I have a PW Excel and a small, white crockpot--2 1/2-3 quarts, and very inexpensive. It works well for the two of us and would fit in the sink. However, I have never used it while we were in transit. The idea is appealing but I have no idea how to make it work, powerwise. I do use a thermal pot which works well for some things (soups or stews). We stop for lunch and I fix food in the thermal pot, put it into the cupboard and the food is ready at night when we stop.

RE: Poll; Female Drivers and what do you drive

I agree that it is easier to be the driver rather than the passenger. We have had three RV's and I have been the principle driver of each: a 23' Class A; 29' Class A; and the present love of my life, a Class B. DH has never been as keen on RVing as I am. When we got the first one, I was determined to learn to drive it so that I could go, with the dogs, if DH wasn't in the mood to travel. As they say, "the rest is history". On occasion, I have given trips to friends as birthday gifts, or taken someone who needs some TLC for a weekend away. My friends are all so impressed that I can drive and set up our rig.

RE: Left a bottle of wine in the FW-will it break from the cold?

Is alcohol like antifreeze? We knew a guy who drank my husband's antifreeze and died. However, that is old history. I left six cans of diet coke in the pantry of my Class B. We had an unusually cold week and the cans burst. When more moderate temps returned, the frozen coke thawed and is there ever a mess in my beloved B. I will take it to be detailed closer to spring.

RE: Pleasure-Way RV Rally Wine Country RV

This rally is the 10th Anniversary of the PW RV Club West. One has to be a member of the club to attend.
