RE: Oh, RATS!

Since you'll be living in your RV, the little critters, should they get in, will most likely stick to the cabinets, and out of site, so traps of any kind can be placed in those areas.

RE: Oh, RATS!

What happens in your coach, stays in your coach. If a rodent gets inside, he is mine to do with what I want and for me that means traps.....the type that finishes them once and for all!

RE: Cleaning awning

George, I have followed Carefree's recommendations with insufficient results. Stug and Jersey, Are your awnings fabric or vinyl? Mine is Sunbrella fabric and I am concerned about using bleach even though it may be necessary. Randy Mine is vinyl. Not sure about how to do the fabric ones and/or what will happen using bleach. How about checking with a local custom canvas shop and get some advice? They may have some recommendations.

RE: How does one know if recalls been performed on a used MH?

I also have a Workhorse chassis and I was able to look it up there. Also, Carfax has my VIN too so I was able to see it on the Carfax report.

RE: Who uses a "Add-A-Room"?

I never had one, but came very close to getting one when I had my TT. now that I have the MH, instead of the add-a-room, I bought a really nice screen room. It gives us the flexibility to put it anywhere on our site...or when camping with friends...share it within two sites.

RE: When Is Enough Enough?

To the OP: You are new to this forum. Please do not take offense to some of us...ummmm...old timers here on this forum. We are a helpful bunch and really want to make suggestions and/or share our experiences. We make the presumption that you want input on your issues, but we can only speculate about what problems you have had. If you can sit and think of as many problems and then reply back to YOUR thread, it will not only help us help you, but it will help many others that might be considering going with a Tiffin. Also, you can bet that the manufacturers read these forums too, so any and all details are of benefit in many ways! Please don't let this thread fade into obscurity! You should be able to see that we all want to help!

RE: When Is Enough Enough?

Wow....sorry to hear about your issues. You might want to flex some (threat) muscles and ask them to declare the rig a lemon! I would think that with that many problems, even Tiffin might agree. One question, is your rig at a service center near you, or at the manufacturer? If it's possible, (if the lemon thing can't happen) you might want to arrange to get it to the factory and have them service it! These things cost too much for you to have that many problems! Good luck!

RE: Cleaning awning

I use a 2 part bleach to 1 part water in s spray bottle and spray the awning....top and bottom. I then scrub with a flat mop. then I rinse and go to any area that needs an extra cleaning! Does the job for me! The top is more difficult, but it gets done just fine. Oh...wear old cloths!

RE: Madison to elkhart

I agree with the second option too! Traffic near Chi Town is no fun! 80 is awesome since they finally got their construction finished up! Enjoy the drive....you will be driving near me....I'll wave!

RE: Yet another RV fire!

Wait a minute. Wouldn't $4.99 smoke detector wake up the owner and give him enough time to put the flame down? It must be sad to get away with driving with open flame under refrigerator onto gas station and than loose the coach to a cigarette. ;) I really admire the rigidity of steel frame on this motorhome. When the Fire Marshall declared it a fire by smoking in bed, the owners tried to argue by saying that nobody was in the RV for something like five hours, but the Marshall pointed out that a cigarette fire is usually not instant. It smolders and finally ignites something.

Yet another RV fire!

Let me preface this with a little story. I live near one of Illinois' largest fairgrounds in the state. The fair was Labor Day week and we did our best (this year) of avoiding it so we could camp in our new (to us) RV. I don't know if you people have friends like some of mine, but I believe that many of them think we are some sort of backwards weirdos that know no better with regards to RVing/Camping! How many of you hear 'have you seen that Robin Williams movie?' Anyway....one of my wifes friends stopped by to 'alert' my wife that there was an RV that 'blew up' and she should send me down to 'learn' what they did wrong 'so we won't have that problem either'. So, my DW came to me with the most serious concern and proceeded to 'advise' me that I should go and see what happened. So...I get on my bike and peddle on down to the part of the fairgrounds where the 'Carnies' park in a little campground. My friend, the Chief of Police was there and so was the state Fire Marshall. My friend walks up to me and I share with him how it came to be that I was there and he laughed and told me it was 'smoking in bed' that caused this fire! I had fun with this one when I came home and told my wife that we should be okay since neither one of us smokes! Ah well...at least I learned to not smoke in bed! I really don't mean to make lite of this loss. It is always sad to see a loss like this! Nobody was hurt. the cigarette ash or cig itself smoldered for several hours before igniting the mattress/blankets. The damage you see in the photo is about 10 minutes of burning. Happy (and safe) Camping! http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u171/stugpanzer/IMG_3811cr.jpg

Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer as a Toad???

Is there anybody that is pulling a Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer? I am looking at getting one and want to hear from anybody else that has one and uses theirs as toad. It is within my RV's tow limit so I am not concerned there. Thanks, David

RE: Finally a class A!!!!

When did the Workhorse with the Bosch brake problem start? What is this? Is this something I need to look into? Call a Workhorse service center with your VIN. I think all Workhorses W chassis after July of 2000 were affected within a range. You can go online to Workhorse and register your chassis to you. Then....future notices will be sent to you.

RE: Has anyone heard anything on the Workhors brakes

No new news yet. We are all waiting on the "official recall notice". Most of us have a strange feeling that Workhorse is going to weasel out of this somehow. Maybe I'm just too trusting, but I believe they will come through. It really has to be a logistic nightmare to get thousands of parts to hundreds of service centers for not only RV's, but also commercial vehicles! Then, the rush of people getting in will, I'm sure, be a whole otehr issue on the service centers. I only hope its in the winter (for my location) so I won't lose camping time in the spring and summer!

RE: Moving into a motorhome

We just moved to a Class A from TT's and went through the decision making process. Your 5er is probably taller than my TT, so you will be used to that (the taller height). You might have to replace the tires on a used Class A as they are only to be used for 6 years. My dealer told me that it would cost about $2800 to do all six tires on my Class A. There are some great RV sellers there in Texas. Some of them sell through Ebay. it's a great way to shop, but ultimately, you will NEED to go see it for yourselves....drive it, etc. Many people might disagree with me on this next point, but if they offer a warranty that you can buy, seriously consider doing that. Our dealer gave us the first year and we will have an option to extend it an additional 3 years for about $2500.....and yes.....I will be purchasing that. Our warranty covers all components in the coach as well as the mechanical components. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions and/or want detail about my experience. Happy camping! David

RE: How tall is my motorhome?

I measured my own......it puts my mind at ease knowing how high it is since I measured it and just didn't take someones word for it!

RE: Workhorse vs Ford chassi

I may be wrong, but to my knowledge Workhorse was never a GM company. Workhorse bought the MH division of GM many moons ago, but not a related company. JM2CW I stand corrected....however...Workhorse is now owned by Navistar.

RE: Workhorse vs Ford chassi

Its hard to believe anyone would buy one of these wh with this being the second recall on the brakes(and no one knows if they will get it right this time either). I mean if it was something like the coffee maker not working but "THE BRAKES". WOW. Well you cant say you havnt been warned. Wish I had been. Good luck Well...believe it! I did and I'm not looking back! I also bought a sport utility knowing that it had a roll-over risk. I am confident that WH will take care of this issue. Keep in mind too that they are no longer a GM company....not sure if thats good or bad, but I have confidence that Navistar will do the right thing. you can bet that they have people within their organization that are not happy about this situation and from what I understand, the problems are from their supplier/s.....mainly Bosch. Further, it is my understanding that WH had to find new suppliers for this issue because Bosch was not standing behind their product. Finally, it must be a logistic nightmare to get everything all setup fo rthe recall since it's not only RV's that are affected but many commercial vehicles as well. Just my two cents on something probably worth only a penny! :)

RE: Workhorse vs Ford chassi

Another thing would be when its time to sell some people that know of the brake problem wont want them. There was a thread on the boards here a couple months ago about a dealer that was not taking Workhorse motorhomes on trade. Forget the Chevy and Ford go get a nice DP. I actually knew about the recall when I bought my moho. I signed-up with WH so I will get the notifications about the recall.
