RE: Heater Ideas

I've seen them right next to the stove, and also i think someone had it hanging on the stove door. Reddog1 has one, and i think he has a photo somewhere. he may have only sent me the photo in a PM, but worth doing a search. He hooked it into the stove.

RE: Honda eu2000i Eco Mode

i see the same logic, inasmuch as the heater doesn't have a high start-up demand like a compressor (A/C, Refer)

yup, your aircon will need econo turned off, and actually 2000 may not run your a/c anyway.

RE: Battery charger

yea, the generators have a great charger. however i suggest (what i did) change your converter out. is it an old magnatek (magnagjunk)??? get a PD, 45 amp, with charge wizard and you'll be good to go! it will charge nice and high when very low, slow down to a trickle when close to full charge, then fully shut off (not like the magnatek). also, it will come back on every few days and give a pulse charge to break up sulfation for longer battery life.
for more information (lest someone else chimes in here) post this question or do a search in the truck camper forum.

wow, very nice! jealousy is rising!
speaking of Kodachrome, did you hear it's no longer made? The last box was given to a National Geographic photographer.

RE: Converter/charger upgrade

first thing i did bob, when i got my camper from my uncle. i pulled out the magnatek, the floor had a dark brown circle from getting too hot. it doesn't charge at about 5 amps is all, and it doesn't shut-off when the battery gets full. Also, the charge wizards have a "pulse charge" once in a while, that breaks up sulfation in the battery. I have the PD 45 amp with internal charge wizard.
now, that said, perhaps your converter is better than my old magna-junk.
I bought a refurbished one on ebay, saved some bucks. came with a warranty even, no problems in 2 years.

RE: Shake Down Trip - Literally

ranger, if you're wanting one, the 6.0 can be modified to get sick horsepower (I have a friend making 500 hp at his rear tires). That said, for reliablity and plenty of power, look for the 7.3 (why are the prices high? Becasue they are worth it). late '99 to '03 are the superduties to buy. pre '99 they need a few mod's (mostly body) to bring them to '03 spec's.

RE: Best Way to Carry Mountain Bikes?

tizi, if the bodiak is the one with like one bold each side where you take out the tow hooks, some people don't think it's the strongest. probably for bikes, ok. I don't know if they have a rating, but others have a raiting of 500# dead load, and a few thousand towing. The other types are more work, taking off the bumper, but they are mounted with many more bolts. just something to consider. heck, i bet you are very happy with it and find lots of uses, i know i've got one on my wish-list.

RE: Best Way to Carry Mountain Bikes?

hey tizi, i have been looking at front receivers myself, and they're only about $150-$200 for a very nice one. Couple different styles, and heck, it can serve double-duty if you want to move your trailers around while watching what you're doing. just think of all the things you could use the front hitch for carrying, including a winch or ???

RE: Shake Down Trip - Literally

you bet Bob. great places in the cascades, i hunt and fish there (fantastic lakes & streams) and western oregon is great too (ocean, rivers & bays). I need to get over there to Glacier myself, maybe start in tri-cities with a visit to my brother, then come around through Canada (maybe that's the only way to go anyway?). I have relation (long-lost) in Suprerior, and some good friends of mine used to live in Great Falls (he is a diesel mechanic, and worked all over the east half of the state). Where are you?
Oh, did you get your water leak and hot water problem solved??
here's my boss' page, he is an avid hiker and here are some photos he took up Iron Mountain. he always knows where to go at what time to see the wildflowers. This actually is in Southeast Oregon.

RE: Shake Down Trip - Literally

no envy here, i think a couple of you read my post incorrectly. i was braggin' about my 7.3 (wanna race up a hill?) :D what i meant by "circumventing it all" was if the OP would have bought the 7.3 to begin with, there'd be no looking for more power. (hee hee)
now, ribbing aside again, back to the task at hand: what i am actually envious of, is the OP's recent wonderful trip, thanks for the photos!

RE: Gopher Gone!!

I just had a battle with a mole. he wouldn't eat the poison (carnivores) andwent around my traps... i had a cross between caddyshack and O'Brother Where Art Thou, going on. hose didn't work, guess he could hold his breath longer than i tried to drown him.
anyway, finally i saw him move dirt (they work right under the soil, making a mess everywhere they travel) and dug him up (unsuccessfully Friday, success on Saturday). They have about a heart attack, just being unearthed; so i put him out of his (and my) misery.
instead of "Gopher Everett?" it was "Mole Marty?"

RE: No Swimming!

funny sign, sad state of water supply. sign reminds me of one i saw for Crater Lake, next to a mud puddle. thing is, California has a "Crater Lake", it's the opposite of the spectactular "Crater Lake" of Oregon.
rondy, you're just up the road from me (springfield here). i know the area, honey lake. i've seen water there, not very often. What is "SIL"? and why would anyone live in that area? Land/houses must be almost free???

"Oh!" then asks the redhead, "i'll take a CL", bartender says "Oh, coors light!"
asks the blond, who replies "I'll take a 15". bartender says "huh?"
blond says "you know, 7 and 7".

RE: Why not wave??????

i have a motorcycle, most non-harley's wave to each other. harley owners look at you like "who the heck are you to get my attention???"
corvettes used to all wave at each other, and we have a campaign "save the wave" however over time, the newer corvette owners are oblivious to this, and they give funny looks back to me.
sign of the times i guess.
Sometimes i wave to fellow F250 SuperDuty people.
