RE: Need aux brake advice

Just read where M & G also has a system available for non air brake coaches. So it would seem, that you don't need air brakes on your coach. But, then the question comes to mind, how are these units with control boxes any better than other units with control boxes? Wouldn't they be susceptible to electronic failure also? I like the idea of the systems simply using air pressure from the coach without any electronics involved, less to go wrong. I have a gasser, and that is why I chose the ReadyBrake, no electronics involved. That fact makes M & G and the SMI air systems look awfully good to me.
Anything can fail and NONE are "fail safe" ( and I doubt any would want it to be ...because once it SLAMMED on the toads brakes at 70 MPG on you because something went haywire you would probably be "deep sixing it") But systems such as the M&G "read" the air brakes on the coach..( or its supplemental AC for the non air brake models) and can be "dialed right on" Its the "sensitivity" of the pendulum weight models that people scream about. It either works or it dont ( being activated) and at times is activated and the owner doesnt know it. ( Hence some mighty high $$$ repair bills)This is what bothers me, the pendulum effect. The SMI system says "that it reads the brake signal and the fact that the rig is decellerating" or something like that. As I understand it, it either has a pendulum or some kind of mercury switch or whatever that can go wrong. To me that is just putting things to chance, something I don't like doing with safety issues. The M & G system for non air assisted coach brakes has a separate air compressor, air cylinder, air tank and a proportioning valve, it too seems to have extra parts that could fail. I subscribe to the K.I.S.S. philosphy and fully understand why many RV'ers tow without any AUX brakes at all, when in fact many need them. The fact remains the more pieces in the process, the more prone to failure it will be.:(

RE: Need aux brake advice

I had recommended the Stay-N-Play
I see where you had, but someone else had recommended the "Air Force One".

RE: Need aux brake advice

Blue Ox has just introduced the Patriot. This is similar to the Brake Buddy except it works off of an electric sensor instead of an internal air compressor. They claim the weight of the unit is about 1/2 of similar units and will be priced about 20% less. This info came from an r.v.dealer yesterday as I am currently searching for a brake system.LINK

No for SMI, they have different versions for air and hydraulic. The version recommended was "Air Force One" not the Stay and Play.

RE: Need aux brake advice

Not to confuse the issue, but I believe the OP'ers rig does not have air brakes. Doesn't the M&G and the SMI systems require that the coach have air brakes. :h

Kind of takes the fun out of going to the store and buying stuff because you can't remember where you put it. Doesn't it? :b

RE: Avoid Oklahoma if retiring

I think when a person is ready to retire, there are more issues to be considered than just taxes.
Health insurance rates? Ours are significantly higher here than they were in WA.
Auto and home insurance? Higher here than WA.
Food? In general, higher here than in WA.
Health care? The pits in NV. If you need quality care, best go elsewhere.
Sunshine? No comparison. Nevada all the way. :b
If it wasn't for DW wanting to be closer to her family in CA, we would move tomorrow to Arizona. That choice has nothing to do with costs. :b

RE: Priced Tiffin 32BA

Probably both.
Have you called other Tiffin dealers?
Are you looking to trade in your current unit or are you selling it outright? Could also be a factor.

The computer models are only as good as the info injected into them. That's called GIGO. A significant amount of conclusions are being formulated daily with this injection of bad data.:b

RE: Thinking of selling my coach...Am I stupid?

What if you decide after 6 months that full timing is not for the two of you?
All you will show for it, is a newer coach and PAYMENTS.
Keep the paid for coach for awhile and try full timing in it.

RE: F53 460 Ford V8

Thermostats don't go bad? That certainly is news to me. I have replaced customer's thermostats that have stuck closed, stuck open, come apart, thermostats that the spring was so weak on the flow of the water would open them up and the list goes on. Thermostats can and do go bad all the time.

RE: 4 down not any easier

What ever floats your boat is best. We tow both ways depending on what vehicle we are taking. Never have had a storage problem with dolly, guess we just stay at the wrong parks. Only once have I had to disconnect the dolly and push it under the MH.

RE: The old girl is back - where to start

The floor looks really good. I am at the point of beginning to install the Allure in our rig. I like to know what I am doing at all points (mostly never do). Since it is a floating floor, what are you planning to use around the top edge of the stairs to trim it out? Metal? Wood? Plastic?

RE: I need help "finding" our "home" state please

If I come to your state in my MH and want to become a resident what is required is it as easy as South Dakota or Texas? You do make it sound like it is a breeze.
JimRHaving moved to WA, then moved from it to NV, it is not nearly as easy or convenient as SD or TX. My brother recently moved from Montana to WA in order to be nearer our aging parents, he was shocked when he had to pay the full WA state sales tax based on his vehicle's purchase price, he had owned it for over 2 years. Also vehicles, dependent on age and type have to have an emission test. We found it much easier moving from WA to NV, but that is totally dependent upon which county you live in the state. In Lyon, where we live, considerably cheaper than Washoe(Reno) or Clark(Las Vegas) counties. I understand life is even cheaper in the counties farther east of here. Considerably colder and hotter too. :b

Doubt very much if Acme could help anyway, since they didn't install it. Try Damon customer support maybe they can.

RE: Costco

Yes, that IS excellent customer service, especially since nearly every warranty I have seen is from the manufacturer, and it is clearly stated in the warranty "If there is a problem with this unit DO NOT call the store where you purchased it, call 1-888-GET HELP (or some such number).
If that is the case with Vizio, yes, it was great of Costco to step up and help instead of telling you to read the instructions, like many stores would do!This is a warranty from Costco.
