RE: How Old is Too Old for a B?

We have a 1988 Falcon on a Ford chassis with a bit over 100,000 miles. We have had no major issues other than a transmission. The rig is going strong after 5 years with us. I agree with Handbasket about doing your own repays for small stuff. if you can do some things on your own you in great shape. I can’t rebuild a transmission but I can do brakes and other maintenance.

RE: How many do not use their water heater?

We do use the water heater and really would not be without it.

RE: IDEAL missing from Syracuse RV Show

We went to the show here in Greensboro, NC a few weeks ago and there was not a Roadtrek to be found. We looked and asked but never came across them.

RE: Help with finding ribs in van

You can use a strong magnet to locate the ribs. It works quite well. If the magent has been used before put a clean cloth over it so you don't dirty your interior

RE: Getting a tandem kayak on top of an 10' tall Class B...

We have a Falcon and love to kayak. I am a toolmaker and spent quite a bit of time trying to engineer some sort of rack I could put on the back using the hitch receiver. It just became easier to convert my little jon boat trailer to haul the kayaks. This way I can carry up to 4 kayaks with ease with nothing in the Falcon. Now I am no expert but I personally feel that nothing can end a marriage quicker than a tandem kayak. My wife and I each have a 10 footer which would fit nicely on your VW Beetle.

RE: Discontinued makes - Opinions

As the owner of an older rig, a 1988 Falcon on a Ford chassis, The Ford is a Ford and can be repaired anywhere. We have owned the rig now for 5 years, with the transmission being the only major repair. That was done about 2 years ago. Other than that just normal stuff, tires, oil changes and so on. It has around 108,000 miles on it now. As for the RV components they are just standard items found in any RV. Most rigs will have the manuals anyway. I will say that it is better if you can handle some easy repairs as they come along. That will keep the overall cost down as well. There are some well cared for older rigs out there. I will echo something Handbasket stated about the miles. We drive ours about every 3 weeks. In fact my son and I took ours out today. We are going out anyway so we just take the RV and give it a good drive. Good luck with your search.

RE: 2010 Seventh Annual RV.net Class B Rally (B7)

Well it certainly sounds like this is shaping up to be another excellent rally. Nan and I are both from the Syracuse area and were very excited about the rally. Unfortunately it conflicts with our school schedule yet again and we will be unable to attend.

RE: No B's but ours

We have to report the same thing. Large state park with a bit of everything but it looks like we were the only B. We did notice more tent campers taking electric sites however. We chose non electric.
