RE: Safety in stealth camping

Hi gypsy - I have camped in a TT, a Class B and now my TC, alone. There have been a few times when I was not comfortable with the surrounding area, and have to admit, I did not sleep well. If I had not been so tired when I stopped driving, I would have moved on, as TwoMainiacs suggested. More recently, I make it my plan to always stop before dark, so that I can really scope out the area I am considering staying overnight in, and to get completely settled in for the night, before it gets dark. Even though I now own a truck and TC, I do have to say that I felt safer in my Class B, for the reason that several people have mentioned here - I could always have hopped into the driver's seat and driven away, if needed, without having to go outside. However, I have never had to do that, nor have I ever had anyone try to give me a bad time. Don't forget to get your "Senior Pass" from a National Park, because then the National Parks,Forests and BLM campgrounds are half price. That has saved me a bunch. I don't think anyone mentioned that above. Good luck and have fun. It's great to hear of single ladies out camping just like me! Also check out "Loners On Wheels" as they have lots of inexpensive get together's that you can join all over the country, for a little company while on the road.

RE: Outfitter trip report:Whazoo & Farctic play the slots

These pics are wonderful! And I love the story line. You're the best Whazoo - but then of course you are a fellow Outfitter-owner... :)

RE: Scissor steps on pop up TC.

I just recently mounted mine permanently to the back of my Outfitter Apex 8, per Geewizard's suggestion and I love it! It was such a hassle to pull the box with the steps out of the camper every time I wanted to get into it, esp as my truck is 4WD and high off the ground. I use the latch that holds the steps together, and then use one bungy cord attached to the loop on each side of my truck's trailer hitch, and connect the two cords together in front of the steps. That keeps them from banging around. Only change I had to make was to pad the PVC tube that stores my sewer hose, as the edge of the steps rubbed against it. Love it!!

RE: Massive forest fires in Quebec: TCers coming here be ware!

There is even a smoky blue haze in the air, as well as bad-air-quality warnings posted, here on the NH-MA border. And here I thought it was too many people barbequeing for the weekend!

RE: 1992 Toyota Itasca Class C

Oh, I find all of this definitely encouraging! I will go take a serious look at this Toyota Itasca. In the past, I had a 13 foot Shadow Cruiser travel trailer, and although I loved the roominess, I wasn't crazy about hauling. Then I had a Class B which I enjoyed a lot, but think it might be a little small for full-timing. As I said, I now have a truck camper, but know for sure that it is too small, for me, for full timing. So, will go take a good look and test drive, etc of the Toyota. I like the smaller RV's as I find them easier for me to handle. Thanks so much. Any other info anyone wants to add will be greatly appreciated.

1992 Toyota Itasca Class C

Hi - I'm currently a Truck Camper owner. I know, I know... But am considering something a little larger for when I retire and can do more extensive trips. Does anyone out there in "Class C World" own, or know about, Toyota Itasca Motorhomes? There is a 1992 for sale near me with 68K miles, V-6, generator, etc that looks really good and I wondered if anyone here has any experience with them. Any info would be great! Thanks.

Battery charging question

I finally got around to buying a battery charger for my two 6-volt truck camper batteries, which are sitting in my cellar - but not on the cement. I had understood that if I left the two batteries connected, that I could charge them together, as one 12-volt unit. The guy at Sears, where I bought my "Fully Automatic 2 amp, 4 amp 6-volt or 12-volt charger" told me that I would greatly reduce the life of my batteries if I charged them as a unit. That seems strange to me, since my solar panels are charging them "as one unit" all the time, when they are in my truck camper. Can anyone help me with this? Am I shortening the life of my batteries??

RE: Meet up at the Springfield MA RV show 2/12-2/15

Hi all - nice to see you at Springfield. Great to meet Gordon and Angela in person, but sorry that Harley wasn't there :)! I was surprised that there were so few motorhomes! I thought there would be more of them, than travel trailers. East End Campers had a great exhibit. That Chalet triple-slide was HUGE, but the Northern Lite Special Editions won my heart. I'll be lusting for one of them, haha! Missed you trapper.

RE: Protected storage, and yet solar?

I also remove my batteries from my Apex, as my camper is stored uncovered, outside. I can't get to its storage yard during the winter, so I figured the snow would eventually obliterate the sun from the solar panel. Congrats on your new camper! When do you pick it up?
