RE: U.S. 23

I have taken route 23 many times in lieu of I-75 (Michigan to North Carolina), and I prefer it. It will add a little time to your trip, but the drive is less stressful :) and more scenic than I-75 IMO.But it didn't use to be that way!!! Guess it is 4 lane now??? Use to be the "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" You could meet yourself going way back when!!! Swore I would never take it again. Guess I can put it back on the map again.

RE: Soot on Toad

That is what diesel does. Now why it goes down the side is beyond me. It is usually a vacuum thing behind the coach or whatever. I get it on the back of my car too. White VW Jetta TDI 1.9 liter diesel with soot on the back always. Also you could be overfilling the oil a bit. Diesels will blow out oil thru the breather tube if you you keep it filled up to the top off line. Let it find its happy spot and it will stay there. If it isn't "overfilled" there is a screen where the breather tube comes out of the valve cover. That screen could be dirty. Clean it. That should stop any oil and smoke from coming out.

RE: Licensing an RV in Montana

A "shell (empty) LLC" of which the sole purpose is avoiding or evading sales tax on the purchase of a motorhome. Shell LLC, corporations or companies which sole purpose is avoiding taxes are very frowned upon by most states. They can cost officers of said LLCs lots of money when they get caught. If the officer of said LLC gets to lease the motorhome from the LLC for free, just because he is a officer, that benefit is taxable. He has to declare the value of the lease. Now if he is a writer who does RV stories, or has some type of RV business, that is not a hobby, then he is okay. But his business must make money!

RE: Licensing an RV in Montana

I am originally from South Dakota but reside and work in California. Recently received a letter from California DMV, stating I better pay my registration fees or they will garnish my wages, reposse my motorhome and so on. It cost me $129.00 for my 2003 Fleetwood Expedition 37U Diesel Pusher for 6 months and California would have cost me $550.00 for 6 months, where would you register your coach? Now I wonder if California is going to figure out that I am in California and what will happen next. Does anyone know if I legally have to register in the state I work, I am a federal employee and not sure if that makes a difference? There was a lengthly discussion on that here on the forum. Seems that they can do it unless you are military. And most in the military know about this, so must not apply to you.

RE: A Class towing a B Class

How are they towing that B class? I assume it is braked some how?I assume that it is braked too. They hang out south of the border and north of the border. I don't know if you call that a Class C or B that they are pulling.

RE: Dolly Towing (can you tow anything?)

Can you use a dolly to tow any kind of vehichle that can't be towed 4 down? My wife is getting a VW Jetta and it would make a great toad. It is a front wheel drive car. We tow a 06 TDI Jetta on a tow dolly and I had to cut some 2x8's to fit the ramps so that the lower air dam would clear until the wheel reaches the tire well. No problem just alittle added time to place and remove the wood. Good luck JohnJohn, you beat me! My '02 TDI is very low to the ground as are all Jettas. And you can not tow dolly a Jetta 4Motion. But doubt you will find to many. There are a couple out there.

RE: Advertising

I usually am very wary of people who feel a need to "advertise" their Christianity. A lot of times on "Cops" I see christian bumper stickers on druggies cars they pull over. You mean that they don't walk the way they talk?

RE: My wife has me worried now...

You'll spenda fortune on the converson and when you get through, it will probably look like a converted school bus. Very few actually conversions carry the conversion all the way through to include the exterior of the "bus". Those who do have a nice looking RV, those who don't have a schoolbus in drag. Hey, been there, done that with a step van conversion.Gene, You obviously have not checked Jaraxle's profile. He has been there already and carried through. Knows the territory well.

RE: Timeing a chev 454 from underneath

Mine wasn't new or rebuilt when last timed. Had overf 50,000 miles on it. The timing indicator was broken off. My mechanic, and one of the mechanics who works for him timed it by ear and going down the road. Worked fine.

RE: People setting up in your campsite

I agree with the orange cones or "campsite occupied" sign. I know CW sells the sign.Yep, I have one of CW's signs. You can even put emergency contact info on the back side of it. Use it often when we had our Class C. Still use it when I have to pull the motorhome out of the site to go dump.

RE: Monaco dealers

I think Navistar made a huge blunder by not making arrangements with the Monaco dealers to supply a manufacturer's warranty on unsold inventory sitting on the dealers' lots and....Go check out the history of Navistar and International Harvester. That is nothing new for them. It is how that have operated since the 1960's. Nothing different except a few name changes.

RE: Where should the water go...

When I came in to the hotel yesterday morning, the woman-half of the renter couple was outside the RV having a smoke. She was taking pictures of the motorhome (this was a pretty bizarre experience for them, as they were EXPECTING to stay in a hotel room Saturday night, but none were available) from various angles. I offered to take a picture of her with the motorhome, which is when the guy came outside from our lobby, where he had been checking out. You let smokers rent the motorhome? And they had never been in a motorhome before? No experience concerning motorhomes? 1. He wanted to take a shower before going out, but the water wasn't hot enough before they had to leave. They ran the shower a bit to see if the water was hot, but it was not. They then went out on the town, leaving at about 6 PM. Did they know about 45 to 60 gallon holding tanks and 6 gallon hot water tanks? Needless to say, these people were not the sharpest sticks in the bunch. Personally, I think they may have left the shower running after testing the water temperature (before heading out to the bars) and it over-flowed while they were gone. I don't know what else could result in that much water ending up on the floor. Not the sharpest? Did they have any idea of what was what concerning the mechanics and operation of a living in a motorhome. In my stick house, I have a extra large hot water tank and I can run it out of hot water when I take a shower, But I know better in the motorhome. You could have given they a two hour briefing on how everything works, and it would not have been enough. To say that they were not the sharpest sticks in the bunch makes me wonder, especially when I read about the problems some around here get themselves into. Maybe it would be a good idea to hook up the motorhome to a sewer if you are going to rent it out on location. But make sure that they are properly informed concerning emptying the black water tank! Now Jay, I like a good olde newspaper man. They seem to be long gone today. I get upset everytime I read the Buffalo News. They don't even know where to put the local section, and I am afraid that one day I will find the sports section in front of everything else. And they don't even sell advertising in sports section, and they say it makes them money?? And the local paper has been turned into a weekly and is a joke anymore. I miss guys like you who know about journalism and the operations of a newspaper! Now maybe you can run a motel really well, but the RV rental business? There are lots of pit falls in that business.

RE: RV Flips..

Years ago I saw one almost identical in Corona Del Mar Ca. Guy drove off bluff trying to commit suicide. In reading the witness account of this one,and seeing the picture, it makes me wonder.I didn't want to say that, but now that you did, I was also wondering. That or a stroke.

RE: Black Friday "wally-docking"

I boondock at WM's when I'm on the road, but I will definitely not be going shopping anyplace on this Friday. In fact, my goal this year is to improve on last year's record of doing 90% of my holiday shopping online. But I do love taking the RV when I go on a major shopping expedition. In addition to the obvious advantages of unlimited storage capacity and handy clean toilet facilities, there's nothing better than taking a serious mid-day break that involves putting your feet up and truly relaxing. Maybe even a nap! Plus, if the day's agenda includes grocery shopping, we don't have to strategize and do it last as we would when running errands in a regular car, since there's a fridge on board. And finally: It's always easy to find, no matter how packed the lot gets. Now this is just good logic. Never occurred to me. DW loves to do the outlet malls when we travel. Have even overnighted in a couple of their parking lots. They usually have a designated area. Some even provide WiFi for the customers who overnight.

RE: Privtae Campgrounds near San Antonio, TX ?

We stayed at Stone Creek, not a bad park and is on the freeway that leads into San Antonio about 15 minutes from the Alamo and Riverwalk. Here is their web site stonecreekrvpark@hotmail.comIs this it - http://stonecreekrvpark.com/? Looks to be northeast of San Antonio quite a bit.
