Hey all! I am looking for a campground in the Orlando area. It does not have to be right next to Disney or any of the other parks. I want something with Trees, and some space. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

A couple of suggestions:

Fort Summit is south (west) of Disney just off I-4 at the Rt 27 intersection in Haines City. It's a very nice park about a 15 - 20 minute drive from the mouse. When we stayed there (2001), they had a shuttle to the parks if you don't want the hassle of driving.

Sherwood Forest is east of Disney on 192. It's a better than average park about 10 - 15 minutes from Disney and within walking distance of Krispy Kreme Donuts. It's very close to Camping World, too.

Some friends stayed at Tropical Palms and gave it high marks, but I really don't know much about it.

Go the TROPICAL PALMS route--------when you get there---they will take you in the golf cart and show you the available sites for your type rig-----there are woodsy area's-------there are also "sun stroke acre" areas-------but a first class place to say the least. Nice pools-----pool side restaurant (reasonable)----lots of sports activities and all equipment is furnished----whether it be basketball, volleyball, horse shoes, etc. Squeaky clean restroom facilities and showers----laundramat is very nice-----mile and half south of I-4 on #192 adjacent to Old Town----which on the weekends usually always has car shows going on and lots of other stuff to do----tourist trap type stuff ENJOY

Avoid Sherwood Forest campground. It is more a snowbird villa than a campground and sites are not big at all. We were jammed in a crummy little space on a corner when a larger and better site was vacant all week.

On our last trip to FLA 3 years ago we stayed here:

http://www.floridastateparks.org/wekiwasprings/default.asp

Wekiwa Springs SP. It is just NORTH of Orlando, but close enough to the attractions (I recall we got to Univarsal Studios in about 30min). We stayed here to visit the other attactions & family, then moved to FW at WDW for our time there. You can drive the back roads and avoid the traffic (came into WDW on the service drive for the employees, by the warhouses for food & costumes, etc.)

The sites we wooded, the spring is fun to swim in, went canoing, quiet, etc. A different CG in FLA than the typical resort parks. Hook ups are elect, not sure if water at the site.

The day use area can be busy on weekends.
