Has anyone had experience buying a new or used truck or 5th wheel in the USA? What kind of paper work is required? Seems to me that the 5th might be less expensive but am not certain about a truck...trucks were cheaper in Canada a year ago before the exhange rate improve for the Cdn. loonie.

With regard to buying a truck in Canada. The Auto Companies in the States have told Canadian Car Dealers not to sell to Americans. This is because the vehicles are cheaper in Canada and they have warned the Canadian dealers that prices could go up here if they sell to Americans. I believe you can buy one though that is over 6 months old.

I just ordered a new "New Horizons" 5th wheel in Kansas. You can get all the info you need at:
http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html#before

we're pretty excited. Another member in Winnipeg has done it as well with good results. I'll know first hand in July.

Wish me luck.

No Problem on the Rv's we have bought two! A 5th wheel Trailer New and a Motorhome Used!

What do you need for paperwork !

Bill of Sale
Title ( They use titles in the USA)
Letter of Recall from Manufacturer ( You can have this sent to you but MUST get one or you can't get the inspection done!)

$$$ to pay for the GST, as well as $$ to pay for the paperwork and import fee! The inspection fee/import fee covers the cost to have your new toy looked at by Canadian Tire! Later you will receive a sticker to place on your unit that says it has been imported by _____you____ and is OK!

Then you go to your Autoplan Agent and get a Licence plate and Insurance and $$$ to pay the Provincial Sales Tax!

Simple hey!

The MOT should have a blue pamphlet that outlines importing a car, truck or trailer into Canada and while oversimplified and vague, it will give you an idea.
We just brought back a used car trailer from a dealer in Indiana April 17 and Robatthelake has it correct for importing the trailer.

Declare it at the border and pay the PST and pre-pay approx $182.00 (or mail in the $182.00) for the paperwork for a licensed inpsection which for me in Fort Erie is my GM dealer OR Canadian Tire.
I am still waiting for the government paperwork that I pre-paid that will allow me to have the trailer inspected.

I need that inspection before I can register it and put my spare trailer plate on. In the mean time, the customs papers I have are considered a trip permit should I get pulled over and this trailer is insured by my insurance company! I am not sure the police will believe that but that is the story I am sticking to!

Only problem now is the lack of room on my dirveway, I knew I should have just paved the entire front yard! Less grass to cut and I could leave earlier to go camping!
