Wife and I just got done looking at a open road 396rdds, what a unit. Since this would be our 1st new unit, any problems we should be looking for. Have seen on this forum, mostly happy campers w/ open road. Presently have a 1999 Montana which we have been happy with. I guess we are at that scary stage of not knowing which way to go. Hopefully you open road owners can help us in our undecided state of mine. give me the good, bad, and ugly. thanks

We are very happy with ours. We did have problems with the ducted a/c, dirt daubers were the culprit, and one of the windows on the bedroom slide had a leak. Other than trying to wash and wax the beast, we have no complaints!! Best of luck on making the decision!

We currently own our second new Open Road. We were very very happy with the first unit....hence the purchase of the second. We did have a couple of minor adjustments on the first unit, but nothing major and everything was taken care of under warranty. We have found the customer service with the factory to be outstanding! We have yet to take the new one out and break it in. Hope to get it pulled up to the house in the next week or two and de-winterize the beauty. I think that if you decide to go with the Open Road you will be very happy.

This is my first post, but I have been watching this forum for the past 16 months or so and for the most part, it is terrific.
I was at an Open Roads dealer (actually went to see the Big Horn) and the dealer gave me a CD about the size of a credit card. See if your dealer will provide you with one. It was extremely informative and had an order form as one of the topics, so you can see the actual MSRPs.
One thing that I definitely liked was the four-step entry and the fact that most everything was standard equipment. The only drawback to the unit that you are interested in is the RV Consumer Group rating of only 1 1/2 stars.
You can't spend better money than to buy a subscription to the RV Consumer Group - a tiny price to pay for such a high investment (if you can call a depreciating asset that).
Others that I am still looking at with the separate rear den/living room are the Everest 364Q, Cedar Creek 37 RDQS, Big Horn 3655RD, Paradise Point PF36RD, New Vision 37RL4 and the Sunnybrook 38 BWQS.
King bed and fireplace rate high with my wife, so I had to discard the Cameo LXI and HitchHiker 34.5 QGRLS.
The Jayco Designer Legacy was high on my list until I saw a post about warranty being voided if used for more than "vacationing" purposes and since we are planning to snowbird as early as next winter, I contacted that factory and the person who answered confirmed that this was true (too bad as I liked that unit).
Good luck on your search.

We picked up our 357 in January and really like the 5vr. Watch out for squeaking floor in living/kitchen floor.

We are also looking to upgrade our 2000 28 foot Jayco fiver. We are currently looking at the Open Road Model 296RLDS-5 (has the triple slide.) I have been reading all the posts too, especially the ones that relate to the Open Road models. As we all know, there is no absolute perfect made fifth wheel, travel trailer, motor home etc., however, as others have posted here in the past, you also need to have great service from your dealer AFTER the SALE is over!!!
Good Luck!!
P.S. While we are on this subject; does anyone own the 296RLDS model, if so what are your good, bad and ulgy?

I have been disappointed with our Open Road model 369rbhs. The RV Consumer group rating does not surprise me. We have an appointment to go back to the dealer, and will give them an opportunity to make things right.
Still, I like the trailer. Will keep you all posted for those interested.

Mines over a year old and has over 8000 miles and over 70 nights in it last season. The only problems I've had were minor. The dealer took care of everything on the first trip back to him. I didn't have to bring it in till the end of the season in november last year. I gave him till thankgiving to fix it and he came in on time with it. This saturday will be our first weekend in it since the end of last october. I'll keep you posted if anything pops up. We are very happy with this rig.
One problem I see is that because of the huge size of the 396 and 395, it seems people think it's a full-time rig. I do not believe the O/R is built for full-timing. I would not try it. these are 30-40,000 dollar rigs. Full-time rigs cost a bit more than that.

Our 357 has been an excellent rig. We've had a couple of problems... the shower leaked, but caulking fixed that. the tv shelf fell, but a couple of wood supports and screws fixed that. the kitchen floor squeaks/creaks, but nothing has fixed that yet.
