I was heavy and after getting hurt at work and having to go out on a disability I really exploded. I had been an insulin dependant diabetic for over 2 years, high cholesterol, severe sleep apnea (used a bi-pap machine) breathing meds, B/P meds and the usual other stuff. I had to do something and on July 12 had gastric by-pass surgery. Things have gone excellent for me. No insulin, cholesterol meds, no bi-pap machine, no breathing meds but still take the B/P pill for now. I can Breathe.......The sideline of this is that to date I have lost about 91 pounds. I know - holycow, this is about 1/2 of a normal person. I do not regret having the surgery and would recommend it to anyone who really feels the need to do it. It is not something for everybody but if you have the proper mindset it is excellent to have the opportunity to possibly be able to see the children and the grand kids grow to be a little older. If anyone has considered this method, I would be willing to discuss it with anyone. I just am tickled.....God Bless all who are trying to lose the weight. It is a difficult task......Dan

Anyone going on a low carb diet by eating lots of red meat and cutting back on fresh fruits and vegitables is asking for trouble. The best way to diet is to eat lots of fresh fruits, vegitables, grains, beans and legumes then burn more calories than you eat with exercise.

My last couple of weigh ins have been -.5 lbs and maintaining. I was kinda waiting for today. I had a physical and was going to see if the Doc would let me stop before I hit WW target of 205. Since im 6'4" I would look like a concentration camp survivor at that weight. Im at 226 now and pretty happy with that. The Doc cut me a little slack and said I could stop at 215. Now that I have a firm goal I'll start putting in some more effort. WW targets are biased towards women. I have to get to 20 lbs below my high school grad weight, but my DW can stop at 40lbs above.
Anyways, I feel a lot better, havent taken any back medicine in weeks. I'm glad to see so many of you losing weight and sticking to it. Ask your WW coach for their free arobics video, my wife uses it a lot.

My DH told me that today he heard of a thing that is implanted in you to make you think you are full. He hears it may replace bi-pass surgery. Has anyone else heard about this?

Great idea, why not call it "RV'ERS Weight Loss Support Group". DW and I have been on a low sugar, low carbohydrate and low sodium diet, no red meat but plenty of Fish a little Crab, Shrimp, Turkey, Chicken and white pork. No sugar sweeten drinks, cereals. We substitute Fruits and nuts to maintain a healthy blood sugar level. So far the first four weeks, DW has lost 10 lbs and I have lost 20 lbs. Our blood sugar is normal now and so is the blood pressure. Mine drooped 40 pts for B/S and 30 pts for blood pressure. We will stick to this new life style change for good. Allowing for normal slow down in weight loss, we should hit our normal weight level by April next year.
Almost forgot we have cut our portion size in half.
