We are planning to stay at Ocean Lakes in the spring and would like to know what are the best sites to request. I assume that sites near the beach are the best but since I've never been there I'll listen to the experts.

If you have a diagram of the layout (available on request from cg)you know that only a few actually are in sight of the beach. There is a road between those sites and the dunes and there are stairs over the dunes at specified places. I don't believe they show on the diagram, tho. About midway between the building (can't remember what they call it) on the beach and the north side of the cg is a good location. Know, tho - there is a breeze almost all of the time and it blows in a lot of black, fine grit that covers everything if your windows are open. It is worse on the end sites but we were on a site about 8-10 in and we got a lot of it. I hate to close windows and do AC when the temps are pleasant but almost wish I had! It is a nice cg - you will enjoy it.

Last year we camped on a site like you mentioned. There was stiff breeze blowing pretty much all the time such that we could not put out our awing. We were there in August, don't know what the wind might be like in the Spring.

We were at Ocean Lakes last fall and stayed in the 2000 section.

It was nice. We've also stayed at Pirateland & liked it as well. Being that close to the beach is nice but a lot of the 'regulars' reserve a site a little farther back from the beach.

In the spring, I would stay in the H or HH section as the sunshine is not overpowering...in the summer, I would stay in the 2000, 4000 areas where there are trees and shade...we have stayed in H the past two springs...warning...it is pretty much booked for the Easter vacation in 2006...the week of April 16....we got the last site in the H section before we left last year....not sure what is available elsewhere...we stayed at Lakewood in previous years...very similar to Ocean Lakes....

Agreed!!

I called last week to reserve something around the end of June and couldn't get all the days I needed....Ended up with second choice,(but certainly not second "rate"....LOL) Lakewood next door.

Most of Lakewood's oceanfront sites are back-in's,but I'll have to drop the toad sooner or later so it's no biggie...

We called in July of this year to Ocean lakes for 2 spots in June of 2006 and the only ones that were left were in the 4000 section so we took them. This will be our first time to Ocean Lakes. When my wife was making the reservations for June the employee told here if we wanted an ocean front site for 2007 that we would have to reserve it by December of 2005. Apparently this is a very popular campground.

Ocean Lakes and Lakewood are definitely busy places, but they're nice places as well.
Granted, they might be a little "too" busy in season, but as one person said here they're like their own little cities....
My vote is for Ocean Lakes, but that's more because our families have many years staying history there...

I had to make reservations a little over a year in advance for an ocean spot. It is Sept 5th. Hope we enjoy it as much as you all have said we will

Most any site in the 2000 section is good. Also, I learned the hard way, that if you want a site period June thru August, you must plan 18 months in advance.
