Where do you place the jack to raise the wheels to adjust brakes, change tires, etc.? I have read using the axle location is not recommended and the dealer told me today, if I can believe him, that they jack trailers my using the trailer frame. (he just didn't seem very convincing on how they do jack them up for some reason).
I want to get one of those drive up ramps that takes the other tire off the ground. Is there someplace other than camper world that sells them? No camper world around here.
Thanks

Ken,
I recently jacked my 5'er up for the first time. I cut a 2x4 long enough to lap over the edges of my 3 ton floor jack's lifting plate. I then cut a "V" notch down the length of that 2x4. I placed that 2x4 just inside of the "U" bolts that hold the axle to the frame and I lifted there. The "V" notch ran parallel to the axle. This approach dispersed the weight over an area about 6" across the axle and very close to the point were it mates to the suspension. I lifted only enough to raise enough to let the wheel spin to set brakes and service a hub.

Interesting problem isn't it? Some trailer manufacturers (axle manufacturers) say don't jack at the axle points and others say it's OK. Rarely do they specify exactly how they want jacking done that I have seen.
Your dealer is correct. Many place a large block on a floor jact that will reach the frame, put it near the spring anchor bracket and jack up that side of the trailer. Not terribly practical for RV'ers in the field IMHO!
I use my 2x8 blocks normally used to level my trailer -- works for me and it's cheap. Pull or back the good wheel up on them, fix the offending wheel and your done!
Hope this helps.

I just use a small car ramp.....pull the front wheel onto the ramp....leaves the rear off the ground.....adjust brakes or whatever....then reverse the procedure. Very simple...no jacking!

That's what both my dealer and the local rv repair shop does. Once in the air they put jack stands under the frame both in front and behind the wheels then lower the trailer onto them.

If using a "ramp" on one tire to raise 2nd tire...do you do this if one of them is flat? Or, is this just to do brake service and maintenance?
Also, if its the front tire that needs to be raised, do you back rear tire onto ramp or get one that will fit between 2 tires?

A ramp works pretty well. I made my own using an 8 ft. 2x6, cut it into two 4ft. pieces. Cut one of the 4 ft. pieces diagonally to make two traingles - 4 ft. on the base. Then screw the other 4 ft 2x6 onto the sloped surfaces of the triangles. Fits across the bed of the tow vehicle and is a great aid for levelling side to side. Also good for raisng one wheel so the other is suspended.

Thanks for all the replies. I went ahead and ordered the ramp from Camper World plus a few other things the wife wanted. Since the order was over $75 the shipping was free. Thanks again.
