I have read great things about both of these units. I am very much a newbie and would appreciate a pros and cons discussion concerning said fivers. I will be towing significant distances and dry camping frequently. I am a bird hunter and will visit some rough roads.

I can only speak to the Arctic Fox as that is what I've owned for 4 years. It's been a great trailer and any minor problems that it had I have been able to fix myself. The factory sent me parts at times to fix warranty items to avoid having to take it to the dealer. From what I've heard, Arctic Fox / Nash is one of the only RV's rated for off-road use. See sig for details on my 5er. You might want to check out the Northwood forum at http://www.afnash.com/. It seems to be down right now, but I assume that this is temporary.

Excel RT wrote: RV Trekking is all about taking your fifth wheel where it's never been taken before. Back roads, rough roads, deep in the middle of nowhere – you can get there in your Excel RT.
A tough exterior, heavy-duty chassis, extra insulation, generator box and more are tailor-made for rugged terrain. With ameneties like a dining booth, hide-a-bed, CD stereo, and utility center, you'll feel at home on that rougher road.
Zero Degree Guarantee wrote: With Excel's Zero Degree Guarantee, you can be sure your holding tanks, water tanks, interior water lines and other essential plumbing won't freeze – all the way down to zero degrees*!

That's what Foxes are built for...but I have no experience with the Excels.
Foxes have pretty good sized frames for their weight, 16" tires, shocks, good ground clearance, good insulation package (from reports...not brochures). The quotes above seem pretty close to the Foxe's features.
Look at the features closely...not just what the brochures say...see which one looks beefier...more for your needs...
The Excel looks to have some higher end features...probably a little higher price too...just make sure that's the stuff that will take the abuse you serve it....and you want to pay for those niceties...
Good luck..

I believe the Excel RT model is not included in the 0 degree guarantee. Good Luck both are very worthy IMHO.

I take my Excel RT out often.. no hook ups.. it has a larger fresh water tank.. 71 gals and I like that.. good ground clearance... It's heavy but I sure like my RT.. and I don't have the double pane windows.. but haven't had any problem staying warm. Camped in 19 degrees last winter... I'm sure Artic Fox is nice.. But I really enjoy my Excel..

I owned several Artic Fox TTs and was very pleased with them. For the money, Nash products are hard to beat. They are certainly rugged RVs.

I've had a smaller Arctic Fox 5th wheel for 3 years. When I up-size I will stick with the Arctic Fox brand...Lew

Looks like the only requirement for the Zero Degree Guarantee is the double pane windows. I was not able to determine if those are available on the RT.
