Help!! This is the first time that I have posted on the pet forum but my wife practically lives here. Well this morning out of the blue our one year old female tabby cat started drooling a bunch. This is a first. We checked the inside of her mouth but cannot find anything out of the ordinary. We thought maybe she was cutting a tooth but we didn't see any. Have any of you had a similar experience? Please let us know. We are going to the vet tomorrow if it continues. She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort and her appetite is normal. Thanks, Ray and Barb.

there is only twice I have seen my cat drool like you said, once was bird watching and the drool was in concert with chattering also it ended when the bird flew away, the other was when he had an infected molar, did not know it or realize it, he didn't seem to be in pain and continued to eat, but when I took him to the vet that apparently was why he was drooling, after the dental surgery it did stop, hope all works out well for your cat but he does need to be checked if it doesn't stop. Good luck!

My male cat, age four, has been a drooler forever. Mostly when he's sleepy/happy/cuddling on my lap or in bed. I know several other cats that do this.

However, if this is something that came on suddenly, I'd recommend a chat with the vet.

I am adding this to the original post. After doing a search on the net I found one thing that just might be the problem. It was a cat oriented encyclopedia and when I brought up drooling there were a few things mentioned that could have maybe been the problem but the thing that I think fits the occasion is that sometimes after eating a bug or spider an animal will drool or salivate. Our cat loves to chase bugs and I bet she ate a spider this morning. It has never happened before but we will keep an eye on her tonight and see what tomorrow brings. Thanks for all the help.

sometimes its when you give them medicine or something they eat,my cat visits a lady down the road all the time, I went down to get him and the moment he seen me he starting drooling and came running, don't think there's any really good reason for it.

Yes, bugs can cause a dog or cat to drool. It should stop soon, but if it keeps up, better have the mouth checked out.

Ray,
Check her mouth for any slight bumps or tiny bits of swelling. Chances are (as was mentioned), she got hold of a bug or spider that bit back. If she doesn't improve soon, get her to the vet as the bites can be nasty. Good luck!

Edna snatched a bee out of the air once, big mistake. The bee obviously defended itself. That poor kitty's eyes watered and she drooled and kept licking her lips. We gave her a tsp of liquid Benadryl and just watched her. Had she shown anymore serious effects we would've rushed her to the vet, but she was fine. I hope she learned her lesson!
