Right now I tow a WW FS3000 travel trailer. I am having an itch to go with a 5th wheel WW. The problem is my dealer thinks my truck is too tall. The bed rail height on my 2000 F350 is right about 65". I have been told with even flipping the axles on the 5th wheel wouldn't work.

I am not in favor of making an unsafe connection but I have seen some WW 5th wheels being towed by lifted current GM trucks with the bed much much lower than the front. It looks like the 5th wheel is dropping the bed about a foot. I wouldn't want to do that at all, just saying I have seen this before.

If my current setup is too high, will going with a flat bed get me in the ball park to tow a 5th wheel? Not sure if this makes a difference but I have a dually.

Thanks for the help.

The truck in my signature has 19.5" tires. We used a low profile Binkley hitch. The Weekend Warrior does not have flipped axles and plents of room between the bed and the trailer.

I have a fifth wheel and my bed rails are @ 65" I only have about 5" of clerance between the trailer and the bed rails wich means careful driving off road and the trailer is not level while towing even with fliped axels but it tows fine and I havnt had a problem.

One thing to consider if the trailer is not level when being towed is that your probably putting additional stress on one set of the tires. Best thing to do is weigh the fronts then the backs (on a 2 axle) and see if the load is the same.

I was told that you shouldn't go over 60" to top of bed rails. That said, I have an F250, 5.5" lift in the front, 4.5" on the back, 18" rims, 35" Toyo mudders, and the bed is 60" and works fine. My trailer is a Rage'n 3005 5th Wheel.

Hey fellas,
How do I measure my truck to see if it's ok. Do I measure from the bed to the ground or the bed rails? BTW what the heck is a bed rail?

If you are trying to figure your clearance from the bed to the bottom of the 5th wheel. Measure that. However if you want to know how tall your bed rail are. Measure from where the tire touching the ground up to the top of the bed(bed rails) Those are the lips at the top of the bed where you would sit or put your forearms on while drinking a beer trying to figure out your clearance.

Will a flat bed help things out with my truck? I realize the hitch plate will be at the same height, just won't have the clearance issues with the bed.

My truck is 63" with a weekend warrior (flipped axles) and mine just barely works.
